I'm like "in again out again finnegan" as far as tracking and participating, so no real insight, just to say that I've noticed it too just in the past two days (since I've been "in again")! I'm a CICO kinda girl (acknowledging that "calories out" is a LOT MORE complicated than many think), so I'm happy.

Hi all! I'd like to follow along, at least a little. I tend to be a lurker. ;-) I've lost 20 lbs. total (ticker is misleading; I lost 7 on my own before joining MFP) and have 7 to go before hitting GW of 125. Actually, in an ideal world, I'd maintain between 120 and 125. I plateaued for the entire month of October at 133.x…

My cross-training actually IS riding a bike all winter. I've recently become a commuter bicyclist, and I'm going to see how long I can stick it out in these Vermont winters...

I hate it too. I cook almost every meal entirely from scratch, and laboriously entering in every damn ingredient and then dividing it out by the servings to create my recipes is a huge PITA. Plus the ingredients I cook from often don't have entries here. I mean, the bread I buy from the farm down the road? How do I even…

I've only been vegan since August, but . . . . . . I end up feeling sad and deprived if I try to replace the meat and cheese in my diet with un-meat and un-cheese. I was a vegetarian for eight years before I went vegan (and omni for eight years in between). I have never had a vegan pizza covered in un-cheese and un-meat…

I love running in the rain so much that I go out of my way to do so! When I'm at home relaxing and look out the window and see is start to come down, that's it, I'm into my running clothes and out the door. Seriously. It's great. Don't freak out! The only things I do differently are to make extra sure I'm not wearing my…

So great that there are already people interested. Should we do anything fancy, and set up spreadsheets and whatnot like other groups? I'm terrible at that sort of thing, but if someone is into it... Who's planning on training outdoors and who indoors? I'm trying to be outside, and since this is my first winter of training…

It's still set to a pound, mostly because I underestimate my food- if I aim for a pound, I lose half a pound; if I aim for a half-pound, I maintain. ;-) I have another ten pounds to my goal . . .

ARGH! Is anyone else hungry ALL THE TIME? I've changed things around a few times, but right now my activity level is set on "lightly active" (I'm a nurse) and I track my food normally, entering my run calories manually (as reported by my GPS iPhone app) and eating them back- with relish. Earlier in my training, if I had a…

Chocolate is perfectly healthy in moderation- no need to feel guilty. If moderation is impossible once you have it in the house, then just don't buy any. Wait until your cravings subside and then try again to buy a bar and only eat some of it. I love chocolate, too. I buy a bar roughly once every other week and eat a…

I'm an RN and I rotate shifts (between two jobs, too). I'm also an EMT and run 12 hours of regular night duty a week (sometimes I can sleep through the night; sometimes I can't), plus a 36-hour weekend block once a month. You might say I'm familiar with sleep disruption . . . On night shifts which I must remain awake for…

We have backyard chickens! I eat an egg or two every morning, and when I'm traveling I miss them sorely . . . nothing besides peanut butter keeps me as full as long.

Bump! I'm training for a half on October 2. My long run is up to 8 miles as of this coming weekend, and my maintenance run is 5.5 3-4 times a week. I am SO addicted at this point!

Day 4 L1 done! Today I did it as a cool down after my run, which was nice. I stretched during the warmup, swapped out boxing for the jump rope (my calves get too mad at me), and I pushed through strength and abs, doing the crunches about twice as fast as in the video. Those anterior raises still KILL, and I can only do…

*applause* Yes. In addition, grocery store produce is cheap because multiple people along the way are being paid close to slave wages. The amount of money migrant workers are paid to pick all of those cheap strawberries, oranges, tomatoes, etc., is sickening. The pittance that large farmers get, per pound, for their crops,…

Don't freak out, please! Mine hurt going in, but it wasn't awful- it felt like two very strong menstrual cramps (once when my doc sounded my uterus, and once when she put the IUD in), and that was it. I had taken Ibuprofen beforehand, but nothing to dilate me, and I've never had children. I didn't scream, I didn't faint, I…

Yup, sounds like shin splints. Icing and Ibuprofen (which is the same exact thing as Advil and Motrin, BTW) can help. So can stretching- try sitting kneeling on the floor so the tops of your feet are pressed into a straight line with your shins. It may also help to warm up that muscle before you start by doing some…

I run a 5.6 mile loop on at least 3 weekdays (ideally 4, but life happens) plus a 'long run' on the weekend that as of this week is up to 8 miles. I also just started the 30 Day Shred, which I am trying to do 6 days a week. Due to my totally erratic work schedule (I'm a nurse and rotate days, nights, and weekends with some…

So I finished Day 3 L1 today and now I have questions for y'all. 1.) What size weights are you using? I only had canned tomatoes on Day 1, then I borrowed 2.5s for Day 2, then I went and bought myself some 5 s and used those today. Everyone else? 2.) How far are you willing to modify moves for your own needs before you…

LOL, that's exactly what I do. I get less emotional about fluctuations if I step on the scale every day. I do get super excited when I get to log it, though!

Today WOULD have been day 4, except I took yesterday off; I have a nasty cold and after my usual 5.5 mile run (blowing my nose all the way), I felt just TRASHED. I slept for ten hours and now I feel better. So . . . today is day 3. The upside of taking a day off is that my legs don't hurt any more! Yay!
-
That's exactly what worked for me. I love to run, but I don't LOVE being out there every day in the blistering heat panting for breath (although usually I at least enjoy it). What I LOVE is how I feel afterwards (GREAT) and also watching my times improve and my mileage go up and my body change, and feeling like I belong to…

Look into Pyrethrum, which is made from the powdered leaves of the Chrysanthemum- or, if you're willing to be less organic, the pyrethroids (pretty much anything with pyreth- in front of the name) which are the synthetic derivatives. All are quite safe for humans as long as they're not mixed with anything nasty. They're…

I eat raw cheese all the time. Because it's cultured, pasteurization isn't necessary. Where I come from, cheddar is always white, and the first time I saw orange cheddar, I thought it was super weird! I just found a farmstand selling raw milk nearby (legal in this state), so that's next. I've had it before and loved it-…

I don't log exercise (I adjust my activity level instead), but I think the most common way is to enter it as "circuit training."
-
I don't always, but I do sometimes. Pretty much if I'm working 12-hour nights (right now) I run during the day, but when I'm working 12-hour days . . . I run at night. I like that it's nice and cool. I run faster when I run at night. I wear an orange and yellow reflective vest and a headlamp. I've never carried a weapon…

I'm on day 2 today. ;-) I've never done a fitness DVD in my life (I run, and that's IT), so I felt like I was stepping back into the 80's, complete with bad music. At least there wasn't any big hair! At any rate, I could keep up fine, but today my quads are sore. I hope that means that they're getting stronger and I'll be…

I'm training for a half on October 2 and the Vermont City Marathon at the end of May. My daily run is 5.5-6.5 miles, and I want to bump my long run up to 8 tomorrow except I have a cold . . . I might go anyway. I'm taking today off mostly 'cause I'm on-duty at Rescue and I don't really like treadmill runs.
-
Daily, because I am way LESS emotional about it. If I weigh weekly I can get really overwrought about it.
-
It's apparently shockingly common to marathon without losing any weight. I live in fear of it! (Well, not really- I love being able to run more than I love losing weight, so if I had to pick . . . ) My personal foible is using carbo-loading as an all too convenient excuse. ;-) ("Oh no, I HAVE to eat this enormous dish of…
