Ditto on using whole eggs unless it's a recipe that requires whites only. The yolk has a lot of nutrients and I would hesitate to ever just throw it out. That seems wasteful, even if eggs are "cheap".

That's a tough decision because I really think we all (well, maybe 95% of us) need a planned treat even as we are losing weight. Yet, that's a lot of calories to take in at one time. My suggestion is to look for a high quality ice cream in one of the smaller 1/2 pint sizes. I have seen several brands offering this size…

I go over the default setting for fat every day and lose weight without trouble. Check out this article: http://www.slate.com/id/2248754 "The foundation for the "fat is bad" mantra comes from the following logic: Since saturated fat is known to increase blood levels of "bad" LDL cholesterol, and people with high LDL…

Don't get me wrong -- I love good food. I love to eat! But you know what feels even better than putting food in my mouth? Getting in a great bike ride or having an excellent workout. I can leave the trail or the gym in the greatest of moods. I am not sure I have ever had the equivalent "pick me up" from a meal or treat.

The scale is just one factor. How I feel is a bigger factor. When I am eating well and exercising, I feel good. When I don't, I feel bad. I like feeling good more than feeling bad.

I use a nonstick pan and don't use any oils or butter or sprays. Just the egg.

I can see some differences as others mentioned. You have made some great progress, don't stop now! Keep your chin up and keep going!

No, don't eat if you don't feel hungry. It's not necessary to eat 5 meals a day to keep your metabolism burning. It can be helpful if you feel hungry to break your meals up into smaller ones and spread it out, but that doesn't affect your metabolism. See this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/23/health/23really.html…

Two things I have found that works well is a) lime juice and b) wrap leftovers tightly with cling-wrap to help keep air out.

That is so awesome, cluther!

Mountain biker here! Part of the reason I am losing weight is to improve my capabilities on the bike.

It's definitely going to be more challenging to lose those last pounds. As counter-intuitive as it may sound, you may need to eat more to coax your body into burning up the fat you have left. I've seen recommendations of just 200-300 caloric deficit per day, instead of 500 or more. I'd also highly recommend lifting weights…

Using free weights challenges your stabilizing muscles more than a weight machine that only moves on a designated, often unnatural path. Your stabilizing muscles enhance your balance, agility, and control. Even just bodyweight movements will do wonders for balance compared to weight machines. And they're free!

If I end up at a burger place, I will go for a "junior" burger without cheese or mayo. Look for sides like salads or potato. Avoid the fries, avoid any fried chicken. At Wendy's, I will often get a junior burger and a small chili.

My 2 cents: Strength train but avoid the weight machines. If you get a consultation at the gym with a personal trainer, tell them you want to lift free weights. If they try to deter you, find another trainer or gym who will. Check out stumptuous.com for more info on free weights and weight loss. Cardio has its own merits…

Fabulous post! Before and after photos are a huge testament to your inner strength.

This is just my opinion: I'd rather have ill-fitting clothes and a strong body than perfectly fitting clothes and a weak body.

Grilling chicken breasts that I've been marinating in olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, garlic, and rosemary. I'll slice up some onion and zuke to grill alongside.

I am willing to have a slower progress in weight loss in order to eat foods that I know I will always want to eat. If we deny ourselves these treats, we won't learn to incorporate them into an overall healthy diet, and we'll be more prone to regaining weight. Just my 2 cents. Some people are of a personality type that…

I was just thinking about this very idea recently for when I make the occasional oatmeal. I don't make it often and I don't use bananas much for any other reason. Having some frozen on hand to throw in and cook with the oatmeal sounds like a good plan.
-
My favorite way lately of preparing oatmeal is to cook it with sliced banana, and then top it off with cinnamon and some chopped pecans. No extra sugar needed, the banana and cinnamon really give it a great flavor.

It's got lots of fiber, very filling. You may want to mix it with other cereals or really watch your portion size. I experienced what I would call extreme gastrointestinal distress from it and just quit eating it altogether. Sorry if that is TMI but I wanted to put that warning out there.

This has been a tough week, physically, at the box. I was a day behind the HQ postings so I did the WODs on Mon, Tues, and yesterday. Monday was the deadlift, overhead walking lunges, and burpees. My legs were on FIRE Tuesday and yesterday. Feel a lot better today which is good because I have a kickball game tonight. (Yes…

You just opened a mighty can o' worms, my friend. I'll post a few other links I've collected on the subject and leave it at that, with one comment: I personally drink about a liter a day to satisfy my thirst. I'll drink more when I've exercised and lost fluids through sweating. http://bit.ly/9UmkNb…

Wow, I just saw this. Must be somewhat new? I don't remember seeing it a couple months ago.
