I don't remember making any resolutions at the beginning of 2011. However it marked the year that I became serious about my health and fitness. 15kg down (6 months later) with 12kg to go. But more importantly, I too am exercising regularly (probably 5/7 days on average) including strength and cardio and feel great. This…

Welcome Larry, you're on track!
-
Sounds great
-
Well done! Yes age is no barrier

Lean chicken, eggs, lentils are some of my leaner staples that have decent protein. You can try quality supplements too I guess but I will leave that to other experts. Google some bodybuilding articles on protein.
-
Lol be careful what you wish for ;P
-
Try having more protein during the day. If I don't get enough I too get hungry

Thats a great article Chicklidell. In my 20s, I was quite fit and lean yet all I focussed on was strength/weight training, not much cardio. I ate reasonably well of course, plenty of protein. In my 30s, I put on significant weight. Stopped training, poor lifestyle choices, too much focus on career and other things. I have…

Its actually a good idea to have a splurge once a week as long as you have been making healthy, consistent choices during the rest of the week. By "splurge" I don't mean bingeing on junk food after starving myself for a long time (although - I am human - this has sometimes happened). I mean treating myself to extra foods…

I bought a good pair of ASICS Gel shoes about 3 months ago and have not looked back. From a person who was a true couch potato, they have made a real difference to me. They have particularly helped with knee pain when jogging/running and let me jog/run and even walk for longer. A few tips: - Make sure you buy running shoes…

I have my diary open to friends. I guess the pros and cons include the following: PROS: - Keeps you accountable - Positive comments from others (when warranted) keep you going! - Negative comments from others (when warranted) keep you going! - Allows you to encourage others in different ways (e.g. they can see that you can…

Sleepytexan, awesome post ;) And from someone who clearly knows what they are doing!

Thats awesome Stacy. I wish I could say the same thing about me, my appetite seems to have increased after the holidays. However I know once in the "zone" its a great feeling!
-
Dude that is excellent! You look great. I have a similar goal to you, am around half way there. I am currently in a few months long plateau (holidays did not help and I am slipping back into some bad habits though fortunately I have increased my fitness during such period). So what I would like to know is: 1. Did you hit a…

Water has no cals, is better and (if not bottled/bought) cheaper too. Google the pitfalls of diet drinks.
-
I have a treadmill, bench and weights at home. But my No 1 exercise is walking and jogging outdoors.
-
Zip food looks awesome. Well done too

To me, I KNOW (from past experience) that rapid weight loss is too easy to regain. That is why I'm using Mfp to do things differently. I know I am in this for the long haul and have been trying to lose my weight by making small incremental changes to my lifestyle each day. I try not to 'starve' myself to reach my goal…

You seem to be doing ok. I usually average 7 to 10 glasses of water a day, usually 8. I used to be lucky to have 3-5 glasses a day pre logging I find drinking 2 glasses before and during each main meal gives me 6 and I try to have a glass before snacks too. When exercising it is easier to have lots more. In winter it's…

To my surprise despite, over eating for days I have not gained. But I have used the extra energy for more intensive exercise and I believe logging everything did make me accountable. There are still plenty of leftovers though!
-
From beautiful woman to super model! Well done! Bet your bfs Christmases have all come at once! Ps I love your motto and live by it - ie it's only cheating if u don't log it.

My excuse was not having the time (and genetics). I was always too busy to look after myself. Oh yea I also really enjoy eating. But I quickly found out that I could make the time (especially on weekends) and that more time spent on exercise means more energy which ironically gives you more productive time for work and to…

Hey, thank YOU too! I think that your post summarises my sentiments about mfp pals who have stuck it through this time of the year with their logging (irrespective of whether or not they are meeting their "goals" to the same extent). So I too applaud all of you reading this thread! And for all those pals who have fallen…

Thanks for all the tips! Agree with comments from a few of you to the effect that holidays are not just about the food but the good company/people around! Well worth remembering! I also like Brookepenni's advice: choosing what you like more and avoiding the other - problem is: I like my alcohol AND sweets :( I've reflected…

As a busy professional, I often don't have enough hours in the day, particularly this time of year! Personally I try to exercise as much as possible on the weekends when I DO have (or rather, fit in) free time I note that Fridays to Sundays seem ok for you but you are worn out. Well guess what? That's something that…

I get no special treatment. Food on the table, its up to me as to how much I eat. However I have been pleased that my better half has started to brag (a little) about my weight loss ;)
-
I definitely prefer to take photos rather than have photos taken of me! Maybe in 2012 (if I can myself back on track) I might have the guts to post a profile pic of me!
-
You look great!

I posted a few weeks ago about whether or not eggs are the ultimate superfood? Theyre easy to prepare, nutritious, full of protein and filling for relatively few cals. Then the whole egg white vs whole egg debate started lol. Personally I can't bear to throw good food away... Far better to get rid of all those other…
