  • First year nursing student, previously a GP healthcare assistant where a big part of my job was running NHS health checks. I don't look overweight as I am tall and muscular but felt incredibly guilty giving lifestyle advice with a BMI in the high twenties.
  • Today I ate 638 kcal worth of fruit, veg and salad. That figure excludes the salad dressing I had at lunch. Without logging the fruit and veg I'd be on a daily total of 742 kcal, it really adds up!!
  • How do I find the group to join?
  • Plus sized clothes are more expensive as it uses more material to create the garment. Think of the money you will save on clothes as well as food when you are able to buy smaller sizes.
  • I have porridge every morning with semi-skimmed milk, blueberries/strawberries/raspberries and banana with a little golden syrup or sweetener. You could try it with cinnamon and apple with cranberries or honey and ground almonds. Quaker 2minute oats come in loads of different flavours and can be done in the microwave or…
  • Meatballs or homemade burgers (mix in some herbs, onion and garlic and grill them), chilli con carne on a small baked potato or cottage pie are all good.
  • BMI is definately not accurate but I think you will be surprised at how close you will be able to get to the BMI healthy range as a lot of fat carried cannot be seen in body shape. Visceral fat is carried around the organs, my sister lost 30lbs from 250lbs (6'1" wearing uk size 18) without really showing it, now she has…
  • At 180lbs I was wearing a uk size 12 although I think I carry a lot of muscle as now at 163 my measurements are 37.5(29.5 under bust) - 26.8 - 37. I would say my frame is medium - large my wrist is 6.2in and bony, and my ankle is 9.2in and bony.
  • If you are larger you will have "visceral fat" around your organs - by losing this you will healthier, more energetic etc as your organs are able to function better - however you wouldn't necessarily notice this physically even if you have lost inches. Have you tried any light toning exercises or weights as this will help…
  • I work in a fish and chip shop. Your average medium cod, small chips is around 500 calories as the fish is actually very healthy (obviously the batter is not...) the oil never reaches the fish as the batter forms a seal around the fish - the fish is steamed inside the coating. The chips are obviously not healthy but they…
  • I'm in a similar situation, recovering from ankle surgery - only been full weightbearing and walking without a crutch / stick for around 3 weeks and still using a crutch / stick some of the time. I broke my ankle falling off a horse and landing standing on one leg - shattered it into 12 pieces and now held together with 2…
  • I go the opposite, every time I lose weight (around every 5lbs or so) I put it all back on (often plus a bit) - usually around half a stone or so seemingly overnight and then lose it all again and perhaps an extra pound. This all seems to happen overnight (I'm another scale addict) so I'm assuming it's mainly water…
  • Well done on the inch loss!!! I'm 5'10" and I've lost 28lbs and gone from 41-30-42 to 39-29-39 so close on the actual amount of weight lost but sooooo far out on the inches!!! I'm very confused by my lack of inch loss compared to weight loss (was 199lbs now 171lbs so still on the very top end of healthy BMI - 24.5). Edit -…
  • Thanks, this is really helpful although I don't have any to contribute
  • Laser removal of stretch marks can take lots and lots of treatments rather than just 3. It is by no means a quick fix and it is very expensive. In the meantime, I would agree on waiting until you are at your goal weight or close to it incase you develop any more but there are cheaper ways to get Bio-oil and other remedies…
  • Thanks for the suggestions, I've lost 28lbs so far using diet with a little exercise but just need to tone my thighs and bum up a bit! I'm always gonna have big thighs (horse rider legs) but the muscle has turned a little to fat now!
  • I've lost 28lbs (5'10" from 199lbs to 171lbs) and haven't gone down a single dress size - maybe half a dress size - from a 14UK. I was wearing 12-14UK but mostly 14 at 199lbs but at my lightest 18months ago at 130lbs I was wearing a 10-12. My waistline has gone for 30" to 29" and hips from 41" to 39" (at my lightest 26/27"…
  • And added to that ^^^ I've been eating absolutely awful since Sunday... Welcome back Mr Metabolism?
  • Got on the scales last night (just out of interest as I'd had a rater food filled day) and was 3lbs lighter than the lightest I've seen in a while and 6lbs (!!) lighter than what I had been 3 or 4 days before (in the morning!!) got on and off the scales 5 times as I didn't believe my eyes... But yep! And then the same…
  • I upped my calories by about 250 and started to see a bit more weight coming off. From what i've read it seems that after a certain amount of weight loss your body worries that you're going to carry on with the deficit and it'll have to run on it's own resources for ever so stores what you take in therefore hindering you…
  • I was just going to post a similar question! I've lost 23lbs and not a single inch anywhere!!! When putting on the weight 65lbs was only 1 or sometimes 2 dress sizes (sometimes 2 on top for my chest) depending on the brand so wondering if i've just got an invisible sack of potatoes strapped to my back or something!! I…
  • It may sound strange but by eating too little you can actually put on weight as (in fairly simple un-scientific terms) your body starts to panic that it will starve if you only feed it 90kcal a day - your body has no idea when it'll get a full days worth of food so slows down burning of calories to retain as much stored…
  • I'm 5'10" and goal weight 147 - I was 134 18months ago but we'll see when I get to 150ish where I'll go from there. Not sure how the weight loss is gonna look as 22lbs down i'm not a single inch smaller anywhere!
  • Taking a pill to stop your period probably isn't the best thing to do - if it's because they are unbearably heavy then the combined contraceptive pill will give you lighter periods (mine now last 2 days using tampax lites during the day and don't need anything overnight whilst laying flat). I know people who have taken the…
  • You can always ask the chip shop - I work in one and we keep on file all the ingredients and usually nutritional information in case anyone asks for allergy or general diet reasons (I think most places have to by law) obviously if they are made in the shop rather than bought frozen from a supplier then it's a different…
  • Sorry just going on what I have been told, re-read my post and I thought I had mentioned that that was what I had been told. Thanks for correcting this, wouldn't want to spread wrong information. And again, I was 130lbs and healthy 18months ago so there is definately scope to lose that 30lbs again which would put me at…
  • Can I just point out that the BMR formulated on this website includes the estimated calories burned through your choice of lifestyle ie. sedentary which for a "petite" person would perhaps be 150-200 or so (complete guess as i'm 5ft10) the less bodyweight you carry the less calories you burn by moving it around. MFP has…
  • I lose weight pretty weirdly too - I weigh myself every day so I have motivation to carry on when I've lost a pound or two. The most I have lost was 9lbs in 3 days (through eating a 1200cal diet with little or no exercise and actually up to 200cal over) but I often lose a bit, put it back on and then it's off again easy as…
  • Also public diary, feel free to browse
  • I'm another diet coke addict, I can't remember the last time I went a day without diet coke - really sad I know. I'm trying to replace some of it with sugar free squash / cordial and sparkling flavoured water and it's going pretty well - I make sure I'm getting my daily water in as well as the diet cokes! Another…
