http://dailyburn.com/life/fitness/no-excuses-accountability-workouts/ An article about exercise accountability. I especially like the Pact app (although, it works with phone accelerometer for walking or GPS at the gym, so if you're working out at home, you'll need a different option.) You commit to working out a specific…

Me too! But like 5% of the time, I'd like something quick and easy to grab.

Great input, thanks GF people :)

Sounds like your doctor was fairly unhelpful. I think you need some personal support, and I doubt that you're going to find someone with a similar experience who also has the same same situation as you here on mfp. As others have said, it's likely you gained 5-7 pounds of 'water weight' (glycogen stores) upon starting up a…

I'm about your height (I weigh 180 tho) and have my calories set at 1750. And I lift weights 3-4x a week. Sounds like you've set up your calories and macros well, if you hit that protein target, you'll feel full. I usually feel hungry if I don't get enough protein and too much sugar. I would guess that you can up your…

Magnesium. Any kind. If it's not working, take more. If you're taking too much, you'll know. And I agree on backing off on the fiber supplements...

160 (I'm close to 5'9") is a goal for me as well, which is the very top of any BMI table. Body fat % measurements are more important to me at this point than the scale moves pretty slowly and with exercise, change is happening, just not much weight.
-
with all the mind games, sounds like you'd be better off disconnecting the fitbit from mfp for a bit and trying to set a consistent daily calorie goal.

I try to be accurate with calorie dense foods (meat, eggs, beans, carbs, fats) and don't worry so much about strict accuracy with veggies. I weighed my fruit until I got a good idea about what 100g of each kind of fruit was and then went to estimating those (found out I was previously overestimating my fruit calories -…

If you're consistently under by a few hundred calories and don't want them in your diary 'haunting' you, what if you just dropped your calorie goal that much?

I'm very surprised your doc didn't know about the numbness/tingling associated with Topamax. Drinking more water helps a ton with that, but I would have quit like you with the hair loss. I took Topamax plus a stimulant briefly for weight loss, but couldn't handle the side effects. Anyway, it's not changing your metabolism…

Jovial brown rice pasta (available on Amazon if you can't find it locally) is tons better than any other I've tried. I like the Ancient Grains quinoa pasta too. glutenfreegirl.com is a great source of recipes. She has celiac and her husband doesn't tolerate dairy well. Many of her recipes focus on good food that is…

Nice! And totally the kind of compliment that melts your heart when you hear it from an 'older gentleman' but would think it's skeezy from a guy who could potentially be picking up on you...

Crustless quiche = frittata. Yum. I use lots of eggs and a splash of milk, the same way I'd make scrambled eggs. Sometimes I'll make a frittata with 4 whole eggs, a little milk and 1/2 carton of egg whites. My favorite is to sautee a mixture of veggies - onion, peppers, broccoli and mushrooms, pour the eggs into the pan…

Aside from carb/sugar/fructose opinions, if being in the red for sugar bothers you, the grams can be adjusted... go to my home --> goals --> change goals --> custom --> enter your desired grams of sugar. I ignore the individual nutrients and just aim to keep protein, carbs and fat in the range I've set for myself.

I just cook my steel cut oats per directions with 1/2 vanilla soy milk and water. Creamier and sweeter, then so good topped with berries and brown sugar.

Since this isn't an intake question I hope it's okay to chime in... less gluten = less bloat for me, even if it's 'clean', whole food - there may be something that your system has a hard time digesting. (Look at dairy, soy and other legumes too.) Probiotics are also helpful for me.

TDEE is maintenance with daily activities - BMR would maintain in a coma.

That MFP estimate is just kinda ridiculous - I always use that average baseline that running a mile is about 100 cals for most people. 12 minutes on an elliptical is not going to be equivalent to a 2.5 mile run. Readjust your thinking and keep moving :)

Aspartame is the worst for me... you can absolutely do South Beach without the allowed SF products. When I did it I would just savor my fruit serving as dessert. Phase 1 allows 100 cals worth of SF snacks, I think - but I would much rather have 100 cals of good chocolate or even an apple instead. (And as others have said,…

I'm someone who has been asked a few times and been totally and completely offended by it, but then used that as motivation to lose weight (and dress better!) Really, people don't ask to be a-holes, they ask because you look pregnant. (I'm not disregarding the possibility that they are actually insensitive a-holes, but…

Street tacos. Spicy.

Wow! 70 lbs and 20 years younger :) Amazing work, Kim! I did the whole 'gain a pound (or 2) a month' thing... kept thinking that 'water weight' from AF was going to go away, but it quickly became 20lbs and 2 sizes. I too am so motivated by size and really took stock of what was going on when I was pushing the size 14's…

(Open diary helps when you're asking for this type of advice...) What do you eat for breakfast? Egg whites in the morning (I usually make a veggie fritatta with a few whole eggs and extra egg whites) are the best way for me to bump protein and leave a balance of all 3 macros for my dinner.
-
I save a ton of calories for dinner. I like to eat a lot of food at dinner, so that's usually a 800-1000 calorie meal. I also am not ashamed about being totally rude and getting up from the table if I finish before the rest of my family and am tempted to continue eating/get seconds/snack from their plates when I know I'm…
-
I'm another non-breakfast eater... I find myself fairly hungry around 10 am regardless of breakfast (and often hungrier at that time if I have had something to eat early.) I have a really hard time staying in within my calorie range for the day when I eat breakfast, but when I don't, when I just delay eating anything until…

Height: 5'8" Age/Gender: 35/female Highest Weight: 212 lbs. Current Weight: 187 lbs. Lowest Weight: 152 lbs. Goal Weight: 165-170 lbs. Size 8 is really my goal, I'm a 12 now and I know that 10 is when I'm 175ish.
-
TDEE is what you can eat to maintain current weight... eat about 20% below that (and this method already accounts for exercise, so don't 'eat back' those cals). It's honestly much more than I've ever eaten while making an effort to lose weight and it's working :)

I will drink a ton more water if it's iced with lemon. I also love Celestial Seasonings herbal teas as iced tea. They're caffeine free and have a sweet-ish fruit flavor without any calories (country peach is my favorite). I make a big pitcher of it and it's good for a week if it lasts that long in my fridge.
