  • So, how does drinking excess water get rid of water weight? Can I count coffee, there's water in that? I see 3lb. swings some days that cannot be related to what I ate. Curious. Sean
  • ^^^^ That. I have to say that I soooo do not want to weigh my food. Can I fudge the numbers to compensate? Sigh.
  • Any exercise is better than none, sez I. Moreover, I find it takes me 15 minutes to warm up -- on the elliptical, for example, raise my heart rate and break a sweat. So, ideally, I like to exercise for 45 minutes minimum, if possible, only because I consider that first 15 minutes as throwaway. Still, any exercise is better…
  • Thanks all!
  • Use MFP, meet your calorie goals, increase your cardio workout and add more weight to your strength workout.
  • A while ago ... I dropped 4 inches from my waist with a 30-lb weight loss.
  • Au contraire. Experience tells me it is a #%$#% of a struggle. Sigh.
  • Check in with your doctor if you are worried!
  • Question from another thread: did you continue to drink beer/alcohol? If so, how did you fit it in to 10lbs/month weightloss?
  • Black pudding -- an unusual choice around here.

  • I think if you want to actively do something about those numbers, you should consider a third day at the gym or for cardio. Also, for me, I have found the first 15 minutes of a workout really only warm me up, so my workouts must be at least 45 minutes, usually 90. Some ideas, anyway.
  • 14. and maybe 21. if you have the extra calories to burn. http://www.buzzfeed.com/erinlarosa/excellent-reasons-to-drink-more-whiskey
  • I have one official day to check my weight: usually Friday morning because I can control my eating better during the week. However, I do often check my weight daily because I am curious about progress. I am unhappy if my weight fluctuates up, but it does not ruin my day and I understand fluctuations happen. I pretty much…
  • Ten pounds a month is sweet! Nicely done!
  • Based on what I read here, I recommend having one cheat day where you only drink 2-3 alcoholic beverages. Plan for that day by adjusting your eating the day before and after and maybe add some extra cardio to help offset it. I am a little confused about the 19-drink thing, but that's a lot of calories to compensate for…
  • 80-20 what? Just curious.
  • My liver likes beer, too. I'm on the fence with this. I am not giving up the occasional wine or beer, but am significantly cutting back. And, am also fitting them into my calorie count. Problem is, from personal experience, I know wine and beer derail me a little. I lose less in a week that includes beer or wine,…
  • Good thoughts everyone! Am not taking a veggie tray ... tradition is the host provides. Will exercise, plan, and try to eat and drink wisely. (It is poker, btw). Thx!

  • Except on margarita glasses!
  • Well, my takeaway is fatter people can sustain larger calorie drops than leaner people and that I am probably on the right track with my 1340 MFP diet but that my decision to start with two days of super-low calorie intake is not good. Also, offset diets with increased exercise and protein intake to reduce muscle loss.…
  • Alcohol will derail you ... stay off it while you want to lose and use moderation when maintaining. IMHO anyway.
  • Harsh crowd. Yes, overeating. But, is there an underlying condition that makes it difficult to lose weight, maintain, and easy to gain weight? Are there biochemical abnormalities that go beyond willpower? Obesity is an epidemic. Perhaps classifying it as a disease is a first honest step for society to step up and fix it.…
  • I'd start of easy with light walking and, if possible, work in low-impact cardio, such as elliptical. As your body gets used to things, ratchet up the intensity. Weights are important, but I'd not start with those; I'd work into them as time went on.
  • Great links. Some say skip shakes because it's not real eating, and weight gain is too easy after the shakes stop. Okay, that kinda makes sense. Consider this, too, that shakes help you get to a weight you are comfy with and you can work to replace shakes with real food over time to maintain. Is that wrong? Consider this,…
  • I recommend just focusing on eating right and laying off exercise until after you see the doc. Sean
  • My diet comprises: • Using MFP to track my calories • Trying to eat less processed food • Working out -- aiming for 3-4 days per week • Reducing alcohol consumption Sean
  • Stop exercising. Go see your doctor. Begin exercising only after your doctor approves you to. Be honest about your symptoms. Dizziness and nausea could be a lot of things. But some of the things it could be are bad. So, be safe. Go to the doctor soon so you can get cleared for exercise soon. All the best! Sean
  • Good info! Thanks all. I am going to try a small breakfast, as I indicated, probably just a shake. Not sure if skipping makes me eat more later? Maybe. I do know that I can work out without having eaten ... although I bet that somewhat reduces the benefits of working out. After I work out I do try to eat something small,…
