Was on here before. Did great. Stopped being here. Things went to ... heck. Back again.

A 6lb gain isn't much, IMHO. 1) Has your body shape changed? In other words, are you seeing positive results when you look in the mirror versus on the scale? 2) Are you really being honest with tracking what you eat? Perhaps this is a portion issue? 3) Lots of folks on here insist you eat your exercise calories and talk…

I have read that we should eat back our exercise calories. My habit is to not pay attention to these calories. I eat them if I am hungry or often I don't eat them. Except, I have, on occasion, done extra exercise in anticipation of a big meal or going out. So, if I know I'm going out for dinner tomorrow and want some…

It has been my experience that drinking alcohol makes it much harder to lose weight. If you are serious about losing weight, I recommend taking time off beer, wine, and liquor. Sean

50 miles completed out of 100 on the elliptical. 50%. :-D

It's not only the muscles you have to worry about. Yes, eat protein, work out, build bigger, more durable muscles ... but your tendons and ligaments don't really bulk up so much. My personal thought is take time just to let hardworking parts rest and recover, to avoid a sprain or tear. But, it's obviously your…

I have three questions: 1) How many calories did the 6-yo burn off? 2) What is this listed as in MFP? 3) Should she have lifted weights before or after the cardio? Cheers, Sean

I like how this article is constructed supporting cardio before weights: http://weighttraining.about.com/od/techniquesandstrategies/a/cardio_weights.htm Cheers, Sean

I found this online: http://www.fitness-nutrition-weightloss.com/if-you-think-cardio-alone-burns-more-fat-think-again.html and this http://dynamicduotraining.com/wordpress/fasted-vs-fed-cardio.

I generally do cardio first. But Google knows of some reasons not to, such as this http://www.builtlean.com/2011/11/07/cardio-before-or-after-weights.

Do either the treadmill or the elliptical really build any muscle? I though exercise bikes were the only cardio equipment that built muscle? Sean

I love the elliptical. At the gym, I do 45-60 minutes alternating between 17 and 20 out of 20 for resistance. However, it does not translate well to real-world exercises like ... jogging. I find the continuous hammering of jogging, especially on hard surfaces (tarmac, treadmills, etc) to be uncomfy. Is there any way for me…

Done 45 miles out of a 100 now on the elliptical. :-D

Okay. Great thread. My thoughts. I do 45 minutes of cardio first, usually an elliptical on a high resistance. 15 minutes of this is to get my heart rate up. 30 minutes is to burn calories. Then I do 30 minutes of weights. I do four reps of the most I can handle, 75% of the time machines. I figure I might be tired, because…

So, what if my target is 114-148, and I regularly exercise at about 155-160 but 7-8 RPE (shortness of breath http://healthnews.ediets.com/fitness-exercise/ask-raphael-cardio-or-weights-first.html)? What's wrong with going a wee bit over? Cheers.

Once in a while, after a workout at the gym, I get a shake with 25g of whey protein in it. Why? Because I'd rather get calories from protein than carbs, as much as I looovveeee carbs. It's not perfect, but I like to think it supplements my approach of using cardio to primarily burn calories and machines/weights to build a…

I had a horrible weekend. Was out most of it, so not home to eat out of the cupboard. Soooo ... go forward today knowing I have to work harder at achieving my goal. The weekend cannot be taken back, so know what your goals are and double-down this week. Do not give up! Cheers, Sean

If you say so. ;-) Cheers.

Best to just be safe. Flirting can have unplanned consequences. Jus' sayin'.

38 miles total ... slowly but surely ...

I don't count walking as exercise, even if I do laps of the soccer field whilst my child plays. Your mileage may vary, but I sort of agree with this article: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-04-14/health/chi-walking-is-it-exercise-20110414_1_fitness-expert-exercise-program-miles-per-hour-burns Cheers, Sean

I travel. I can find granola bars at walmart and a gym, of sorts, at my hotel. Otherwise, focus on veggies. Cheers, Sean

I love preplanning my snacks. Try buying some of these and keeping them around for munchies: http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-clif-bar-oatmeal-raisin-walnut-i86855. Cheers, Sean

Baked road kill is probably great for you, if you have had your rabies shots. LOL.

Very cool. Thank you for the correction! I don't eat there anyway, but figure if I am at BK, McDonalds, Wendy's, etc., a salad is a better choice. I actually probably need some more preservatives and anti-browning agents, given my age, so all good. ;-P Cheers, Sean
