Exercise has been as usual, and I'm getting toned and am down two pant's sizes. Sooooooo ... am going to work hard on NOT eating back exercise…
  • Ate more than I intended tonight. Need wishes of luck for the weigh-in tomorrow!!!!
  • I strength train thrice a week with a day off strength inbetween. 3 or 4 sets of 8-15 reps. Typically I work shoulders, abs, and legs each session using mostly machines. For example, lat pulldowns, incline bench, shoulder press, leg press, and some kind of crunches might be one day, then machine row, chest flys freeweight…
  • Is your pulse normal?
  • I'm on week 2 day 2. Not loving the running, quite honestly, but hopefully that will come with time. Importantly, I went to a running store and got fitted for running shoes before starting -- I think the right shoes are a really good idea. Anyway, I am nervous about the upcoming weeks. Oh, and am doing it on a treadmill.…
  • http://tinyurl.com/rcxrkp Just kidding -- but try the first link. Cheers and grins, SEan
  • I see what you are saying, but for c25k, 1 or 3 ounces doesn't make a difference for me. My soccer cleats are 11 oz. because I wanted leather protection, rather than a thin 7 oz. synthetic ... that doesn't really affect my performance. Similarly, 11 oz. versus 9oz. running shoes really won't affect your times ... think of…
  • I am on week two day two of c25k. I went to a running shop and got fitted ... they look at how you run and figure out what shoes you need, as well as making sure the fit is great. (http://www.fleetfeethartford.com) I ended up with Nike Pegasus, which I understand are a good shoe with a great reputation, and not at the…
  • W2D1 finished. So far so good. Am not really loving it and not really looking forward to the longer stretches of running that happen over the next few weeks ... but I'm in this to succeed. Am doing this on the treadmill ... so far, my shin splints have not returned. So, that's a win, too. Cheers, Sean
  • Thanks Mandy!! This past weekend was tough -- thank goodness we weigh in on Friday! Tuesday I have dinner out with a friend. So ... this week will be a struggle. I need to drop 2lbs to stay on track ... fingers crossed .... Cheers, Sean
  • Thanks! I go to the gym a lot, and that helps me overcome my poor choices. For example, Sunday, watching the USA lose to Japan in World Cup soccer, I ate an entire large bag of salt and vinegar chips ... that cannot have been good. LOL! Cheers, Sean
  • I'm 3 months into my serious weight-loss attempt, and second month logging here. 1) I am fixated on losing weight. Some days, like yesterday, I really, really, really, really don't want to go to the gym. I got my family into it, so they were going and I couldn't back out if I tried. 2) Once I get to the gym and begin, I…
  • <g> As I said, two glasses of red last night for me (after working out). ;-) But, I have read in a few places that alcohol actually does slow your metabolism, so it's not just the calories of the alcohol you have to worry about. Still, this is "broscience," right, so your own research might be called for. And, giving up…
  • Thank you. This is great! I'm in my second month. Appreciate the heads up. Cheers, Sean
  • About wine ... I've read conflicting information about it, but generally there is consensus that alcohol slows your metabolism. I had two glasses of wine last night (malbec), as it happens, but why not try giving up all wine and all other alcohol for a fortnight and seeing if that helps. Cheers and keep at it. Eating few…
  • Does the article actually say where the fat goes?
  • I just started c25k. I'm at the gym 5 days per week ... and one day I mow the lawn (takes 2-3 hours). So, in addition to mowing, I use the elliptical most days for 45 minutes or so. I weight train 3 days each week. I swim a little -- laps are not my thing. And, I am starting to use the bike. For example, yesterday I did 50…
  • Day 2 of week 1 yesterday. This is not going to be easy. Day 3 of week 1 tomorrow. I have good running shoes and am working into this slowly ... but have a history of shin splints. Fingers crossed!!!
  • SW 219. W1 (7/1) 217. W2 (7/8) 213. W3 (7/15) 211. W4 (7/22) 209. Down 2!! (Wanted 22 hehe.) Slow and steady wins the race, right? Cheers, Sean
  • What are you looking for? I don't know anybody here. I am just happy for them that they achieved something, are happy for themselves, or whatnot. No harm, all good. :-)
  • Local bike speciality shop is the way to go! Sounds like you want a hybrid bike. Questions you want to think about are how much do you want to pay, do you want a suspension (it's not expensive to get a front suspension), and how heavy do you want the bike to be (aluminum or chromoly frame). For example, we shop here:…
  • Subway salad? If a sandwich, their flatbread apparently has way more fat than their other bread and their wheat uses high-fructose corn syrup, so I guess stick with the white bread. http://www.dietsinreview.com/diet_column/06/subway-bread-has-more-high-fructose-corn-syrup-than-whole-grains That being said, I like subway…
  • I've been thinking about getting into couch to 5k for a month or so. So, I started yesterday. So far so good! LOL. I was walking at 4mph and running at 5.1. I intend to do this by the book, so will follow the schedule exactly. :) In the past, I've gotten painful shin splints running on anything but grass, so I am nervous…
  • Hope you get better quickly. Take care of your immediate health emergency -- there is time for weigh loss later. Cheers!!!
  • Generally, those things aren't regarded well around here, but keep us posted and I wish you all the best!!
  • Love the way you think!
  • I am trying NOT to eat back my exercise calories, only part of them ... because I fear I underestimate my calories in and overestimate my calories out (based on cardio machine and MFP values). Cheers, Sean
  • Great thread. For the most part, being new, I focus on weight routines that work combinations of muscles, such as leg press, lunges, lat pulldowns, bench press, etc. Then, am not a lady. Maybe focusing on individual muscles helps with definition? Cheers, Sean
  • Very interesting!
  • Subaru WRX. Modded of course.
