  • I'm getting back on my diet for the new year after letting things go. Started Wednesday, rocked it Wednesday and Thursday, had a couple of beers and some bar food last night and blew it yesterday. Yesterday is over. TODAY IS A NEW DAY. A NEW CHANCE TO BE SUCCESSFUL. So far so good today. On task and not feeling bad about…
  • Hi! I've been swinging kettlebells for a few years now -- I have to take Iron Smasher's side on this. Glad to hear you're not just looking for a modified aerobics class. These things can hurt you, though. May I suggest that, before you buy anything, see if there's an instructor certified by RKC, IKFF, or StrongFirst in…
  • I use a Fitbit to monitor my steps daily and a Polar HRM (an old F6) when I exercise. I ignore the Fitbit calorie count and don't take it into account when I use MFP -- I try to stick to my allowed calories each day.
  • My wife would kill me, but I hear Kate Upton's still available?
  • You betcha! I get it mostly in the evenings. It'e usually a sweet craving or for peanut butter. I'm sure there's some sort of physiologic explanation but I haven't bothered to seek it out. It used to be that, once that feeling hit, clear the decks because I was gonna eat! Now I just grab something with fiber in it (my…
  • Hey - thanks for the reply -- thought I was the only one in the MFP wilderness doing this! All I'm doing is the KB one right now but I just found the Clubbell Encyclopedia DVD for a good price on eBay, so I'm going to order some clubbells eventually and see how that goes.
  • +1 on Stone Sour and Linkin Park -- also check out Rise Against.
  • That's really cool! This has to make you feel pretty pumped up! Sounds like you're doing a great job and your son's really proud of you. Way to go!
  • Bump -- quinoa is GOOD! Thank you!
  • Lifetime unrepentant scruncher
  • Harris Teeter Organics Spinach Feta Pizza -- I never thought I'd like something like that but DANG it's good! Doesn't crush my calorie count either.
  • I'm flattered you asked! I've lost this weight by: 1. Being obsessively accurate in recording my calories on MFP (I NEVER realized how much of an issue I had with portion control!) and measuring my portions (investing 20 bucks in a good food scale has been the best decision I've made). 2. Sticking to my alloted calories…
  • I'm on the couch to 5K program right now - my first 5K is on Oct. 29. My only goal for it right now is to run it all the way and to finish strong. Go for it, and I wish you luck!
  • I weigh in every Friday and then adjust my HRM.
  • My bathroom scale and food scale are both made by Taylor. I checked my bathroom scale with a kettlebell and it's been dead on every time I've checked it over the past two years (I check every time I put a new battery in). I've been happy with Taylor scales and they're not expensive.
  • Man, that's impressive! Congratulations! You've gotta feel great about this! Way to go!
  • A lot of times I'll just swing or snatch for 30 seconds, rest for 30 seconds at moderately high intensity -- 20 - 25 minutes of that really gets my heart rate up and burns calories for me. Dragon Door has a new DVD out - "Mastering the Hardstyle Kettlebell Swing" -- and Mark and Tracy Reifkind really go through the swing…
  • Not one thing inappropriate about it. Don't worry about those folks who complain. They have too much time on their hands and should be focusing on larger issues.
  • Dude........no. Just no. Throw them out.
  • Are you talking about an appendectomy (the removal of the appendix, which is usually medically necessary when it's done) or abdominoplasty (which is a cosmetic surgical procedure)? I think you're talking about abdominoplasty here!
  • Just started running again after nearly 30 years off and 2 knee arthroscopies. I wear Vibram KSO's and feel GREAT! I'm training for a 5K initially - I feel VERY comfortable running in them! I got a pair initially for the gym and for using my kettlebells outside, but running in them has been a lot less stressful on my knees…
  • The strawberry shortcake ice cream sandwiches are just too dang good! I like the heavenly crisp chocolate bars, the caramel truffle bars, and the mint truffle bars too (not that I have a sweet tooth....)! They haven't given me a bit of trouble in terms of my stomach.
  • HRM with chest strap all the way -- the difference in accuracy of measurement is significant. I started like you and went by the machines and wasn't losing. The machine estimate is usually way off for me.
  • Bed Bath and Beyond has them for a better price than the vitamin stores. They've got a ton of them in right now where we are -- guess kids going back going back to college drink a lot of protein shakes. I'd suggest trying there first.
  • I don't know -- I've banned Brussels sprouts from my diets since I was a kid -- it's been a lot more satisfying! Gotta admit, though -- I'm down for bacon ANYTIME!
  • Once a week, always in the morning after I use the bathroom, usually on Friday or Saturday morning. If I stepped on the scale daily, the fluctuations during the week would drive me nuts! Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Free Calorie Counter
  • Kettlebell swings have helped me a lot -- I seem to get a good cardio workout and lose fat with them. There's a learning curve in terms of doing them correctly, though. If you're looking for something new to try, most of the KB instructors I've met offer their first class free. You might want to look online at…
  • I HATED it when I started -- all I saw is the work I was putting in and what I couldn't eat. Then I started to see the results -- my knees hurt less, my pants fit better, my wife likes my butt more, I'm not sucking wind when I walk the dogs. Now I feel guilty if I don't do it. I screwed up for a long time -- lots of beer,…
  • Welcome to MFP! I've been on for almost a month now -- lost nearly 18 pounds! My most successful weight loss ever! The tools here are great -- they've been really helpful for me. I wish you the best of luck!
  • We get the quinoa you don't have to rinse and we have an inexpensive rice cooker. 2:1 water:quinoa ratio, cooks up quick! We add garlic powder and parmesan cheese and it tastes great as a side. We also like adding golden raisins, parsley, and toasted pine nuts -- we found that recipe in a book called "Cook This, Not That!"
