  • I just started back on here and I would like to lose 50 as well. I have not set a time frame because that has never worked for me. I set mini goals for food or exercise every day something different and a weight goal for about a month. You can friend me and we can do it together!
  • Yesterday afternoon, it was abot 45 and blue skies, and I was all excited to get in a 24 mile route that I haven't done since August. Headed out westward, into a slight headwind, got about 4 miles out and noticed my rear tire was low and losing air fast. Went another 1/4 mile and realized I needed to stop. Out on a 2 lane…
  • I set my goal for 1500 miles in 2012. I believe that it's attainable. I rode about 1000 miles this year, but didn't start riding hard until May. This year I plan to ride year-round. In fact it was so nice here that's what I did on New Year's eve! I am registered for a century in June so I will need to ride lots before…
  • I like your truths. You sound very motivated and honest. I think a huge step towards successful weight loss is honesty. Being honest with yourself is sometimes difficult but absolutely essential. Maybe if I find some mfp friends it will help keep me honest!
  • 27 hilly miles this morning. Back to work tomorrow, hope I can find time to ride the next 130 miles to meet my goal!
  • Took advantage of cooler temps/lower humidity and rode 15 miles of the bike trail in town with my sister today. I'm not used to riding bike trails, I usually ride county highways, and prefer that for sure. I need to take my bike in for some maintenance - rear view mirror is broke, gears shifting hard, slow leak in my rear…
  • Wow...we have some serious cyclists on here! It's cool to see everyone's goals. I got in a 24 mile ride despite the temps/humidity. We were under a "heat warning" until 8pm tonight. I started my ride at 9am, so it wasn't quite so hot yet.
  • Yeah!! More bike riding!! My goal is less than July, since I'm returning to work next week, but hopefully I will surpass it and will be able to increase it. And hopefully the heat/humidity will fall and it won't be so hard to get motivated to get out and pedal!
  • Came home from vacation in colorado 14 miles short of my 300 miles in july goal. Went out tonight and rode a 15 mile route so I met my goal!! Now I need to set an august goal. 300 might be lofty since I start back to work next week. Maybe I'll shoot for 200? Let's keep this challenge going!
  • I've got 18 more on my first day in Steamboat Springs, CO! What a different view than my rides at home in Iowa!!
  • That is a dream of mine and I may need to seriously consider joining you! For a trial run, you can come join RAGBRAI. (Bike ride across Iowa). It starts this Sunday and ends the next Saturday. I've done that (or part of it) about 6 times. Just a week of it is an amazing experience and if you try it once, you're hooked!!!!
  • I'm leaving for Colorado tomorrow and taking my bike along. I hope to find some nice routes out there and add some miles. My sister is bringing her bike along too!
  • I think I can get to 300 by the end of the month! Hope this heat breaks soon. An hour-long ride was all I could handle today and Saturday!
  • I had to modify my goal. After doing 12 on Monday and 39 yesterday, I surpassed the 150 mark. Since it's the middle of the month, I thought I'd just double it. My new goal is 300 miles for July!
  • Rode my favorite route yesterday with a friend. 40 miles total...about 10 of them into a pretty strong headwind!
  • 9 miles pedaling around town doing errands today. Weigh in tomorrow. I hope it's good news!
  • I'm partial to Trek bikes but there are lots of good brands. Any good bike shop will match a style of bike to what you tell them you are using it for. There is a very wide price range. I'd say your best bet is to go to your local bike shop and they will be your best help.
  • Sounds like you need a hybrid bike. It has the handlebars like a mountain bike and in-between tires. It's what I ride since up to a few months ago, I lived on a gravel road and had to ride 2 miles of gravel to get to the highway. It also works well on the trails near me that is made of crushed limestone.

  • Hi All! I did a 21 mile ride this morning and then got in another 7 riding around town with my girls! Can anyone help me figure out how to get the mileage ticker I made to post?
  • Happy 4th everyone!!! I got 40 miles in this AM! Now it's time to go to the Blues Fest, hang with friends and drink some beer!!
  • Got 13 miles in this morning and scheduled a 40 mile ride for next Saturday with a friend!
  • I'll join you! I get a lot of miles during the summer months, but I have not tracked total miles. It will be interesting to see how much biking I actually do. I know I biked about 70 miles last week, but that was June. I'll check my odometer today and start fresh for July!
  • I need to join!
