  • Here's the thing. I now squat nearly as much as I need/want to lose. That's HEAVY! Can't believe I'm carrying that much excess weight with me! Ah well, it'll be gone eventually
  • And the NSV's keep coming! Added 20lbs to my squat today - so 65lb in total now, for around 6 reps before my form went downhill. Nice man in the gym showed my DB bench press and suggested I start there and work up to the bar. Oh, and I tried some new machines, so I'm REALLY feeling it right now!
  • Thank you :) I think what did it was upping my bicep curl weight from 20 to 30lbs - it's probably made my muscles think, "Aaah, I have to grow to do this heavy lifting thing!" Yeah it's not heavy by most standards but I'm 5ft 2 so it is to me
  • So it's not just my gym then! We have nice, polite signs saying "If you're strong enough to lift the weights, you're strong enough to put them back" and also another more harsh notice about the fact they have cctv and will suspend memberships etc. Neither works.
  • @ GermanicKnight yes, you've got a lovely smile, in particular.
  • Cardio in my gym is a 50/50 split. Ditto the weight machines. BUT, you cross over into that free weights section and there's very few girls in there. Aside from me, I've counted 2 other ladies in there in the 6 months I've been at that gym. You know what? YES, I'm still very much overweight, and fat. YES, I need to do…
  • I love my gym (I'm in the UK too) because: It's affordable, and on a rolling contract so I'm not tied in (our council one is £25 a month, i pay £18 a month) It's easy to get to All the members I've spoken to have been lovely All the staff are lovely Although not council run, we too see a wide variety of people coming…
  • I have recently upped my cardio from 20 mins treadmill and 20 mins bike to 30 mins of each I have turned down offers of cake for 2 days running Yesterday I increased my bicep curls from 20lbs to 30lbs
  • Well, I got back on the ab machine, and surprisingly don't ache as much even though I upped the weight  Also got back in the squat rack  which fills me with all kinds of joy, although my legs are sore today, but it feels good to be back in the weight room. My form still needs work though.
  • Today I skipped breakfast and had a 70 cal cereal bar instead. I know, I know, but I wasn't hungry, then when I was, it seemed too close to lunchtime to eat a big breakfast.
  • I ate some pork scratchings today. 600 calories - thankfully I had exercise calories so still came in under my goal. Annoying thing is, they just made me feel sick so it wasn't even worth it!
  • I can do a 16 minute mile on the treadmill, which feels rubbish! I don't run outside due to my peripheral vision not being good and having lots of roads to cross around my home, it probably wouldn't be a great idea!
  • Yes! I'm often the only girl in our free weights section, and it feels kinda, "Hehe, I shouldn't be here but I am" It's awesome
  • I    LIFTING! Especially squats. I'm not very strong yet, but I love it! Also really enjoy swimming
  • I just buy stuff in a size that means I can get into it comfortably, then go work out :) I too am a 16 on top. I've started wearing running t-shirts which are quite tight round my middle, also my problem area, as well as stretchy but tight yoga pants, which make my other problem area look worse, probably, and I just don't…
  • Oh yes, squats! Great for my legs, but somewhat painful for a while after. I need to start doing those again, I've had a break from the gym for a while because of deadlines, and when I was going regularly, I was managing a 45lb squat, which for a girl of 5'2 and made mostly of flab, I think, is pretty good going! Had to…
  • Wait, does being 5ft 2 affect how fast I can go on the treadmill?? I've actually just read on another forum, the reason I can't get above what feels like a fast walk is because I'm too close to the front of the treadmill. Might clip on the safety thing and try starting my stride further back next time.
  • I only run on the treadmill, and it's BAD! I RUN at 5.5kph, max 6.0kph. I'm talking 16 minute miles :( So embarrassing, and feels like I'm lumbering along.
  • See, I tried that with my local store, and they said because I was "just going on a treadmill" that there was no point in it. So not only am I put off using that store, I have no other options, as it's the only place that offers it. Ah well, I can only try some insoles first, then if that doesn't work, along with losing…
  • OK, so, I have a question. I've now started doing an hour of cardio at the gym each visit - aiming for 3 times a week but have a huge amount on this week so it'll probably be 2 :(. Anyway, I've learnt recently that I have flat feet. If I try and go at 6.0kph on the treadmill for any length of time, my legs hurt. Will this…
  • May and the start of this month have NOT been good. I over-indulged. I've reached my heaviest ever :( BUT, I'm determined to lose it all. I'm aiming for 2lbs a week, and to STOP with the over indulgin. So, a day of rest today, then to the gym tomorrow. An NSV though, I've gone from 20 minutes on the bike and 20 minutes on…
  • My amazing boyfriend. He thinks I look amazing as I am, BUT, he said to me, "I fully support you in what you choose to do, and I'm always here to help you achieve your goals". Awesome. Although we've been out to lunch a bit recently and it's put some weight on me, so I need to work even harder now! Other than that, the…
  • See, I did have all my measurements taken at the gym by a personal trainer, but I can't afford another session and can't remember all the numbers. I know my chest measurement though, and that hasn't changed. Woo, gym tomorrow, I can't wait :)
  • OK, well, I thought I should probably upload a photo of me in this dress NOW, then people who are a lot smarter than me can tell me if 14lbs would be too much, or if even 5lbs would make a difference. Now, if I can just remember how to do images on here... Just for comparison, this is me in another dress, taken about a…
  • OK, don't want to go down the fasting/shake route - I live at home and it would cause waves within the family, which I do not want. I DID lose this amount once, in a similar time frame, and I *think* I did it by just being very strict with my diet. However, I was about 14 when that happened (it wasn't a conscious decision…
  • My biggest thing is ice cream - I love it! I've found a frozen yoghurt place in my local shopping centre. If I want something like ice cream, I go there. I do have a topping, usually rainbow sprinkles, but it gives me that feeling of eating ice cream. Most other things, I can be quite restrained with. I just have problems…
  • Thank you :) He's not in a critical condition or anything, but because he can't keep food or drink down at the moment due to a kidney infection, he's in the best place. I'm just sad as it's his birthday on Monday, and we were supposed to celebrate tomorrow, and he hates hospitals (he's accident prone, so he's seen a lot of…
  • Well, it's been an interesting few days... My grandfather was told he's very close to being Type 2 Diabetic, and my mum was today told her cholesterol is a tad high. The first of these really shook me, I don't want that to be me. My mum's news has further illustrated that I NEED to lose a LOT of weight, now. Anyway, I…
  • I'm 5ft 2, 182lbs currently, and live in the UK. I have a lot of deadlines at university in May (all of them, in fact) and as it's my final year I'm having to put the work first. However, my goal next month is to stick to my calorie goal every day, cut back on the sugary snacks and drinks and keep my diet in check until…
  • Boots that go past my ankles! Strappy tops without having flabby upper arms! Shorts! I'm going away with my friend again in September, and would like to be wearing shorts this time instead of long skirts. That right there is serious motivation right now! Also, if my boyfriend ever proposes I want the pick of all the…
