Um... Can I please borrow the recipe for your carrot pudding? That sounds AMAZING.

This is awesome! What a great challenge.

I am on board with everyone else saying DH has to contribute a bit more. One of the great things about a 2 parent household is there are 2 adults to share chores. If he says he's too tired from work, maybe he doesn't understand that you work hard too. Raising a family with 2 working adults is hard and everyone needs to…

Hi I'm Christine! I'm new to running; I started running first week of August to burn quick calories, used Couch to 5k to get past my initial 2 mile barrier and did my first 5k in November. I am currently running 4 miles, 3 times a week. For some crazy reason I decided a couple weeks ago to try for a half marathon and…

This made me LOL. My BFF only likes chain restaurants (Red Robin, Cheesecake Factory, Olive Garden, etc). Last time we went to RR my order was like yours: French onion soup, no crouton and no cheese, and without the focaccia bread. Grilled chicken Caprese salad, no dressing, no fried pepperoni, no cheese, no balsamic…

I want to hit 20 pounds gone (144 lbs) by NYE. Only 3 pounds to go! My big goal for December 31 was to be down to a size 6, and as of Monday I did it! I still need a little extra cardio to make that size 6 look good. ;-) I was trying to go back to 5x a week workouts but have only made it 3 of the last 7 days. Still not…

I worked at Williams Sonoma during holiday after college, and a customer wanted me to wrap, package and ship his 8 items to 8 different recipients. This is no big deal, it was a service WS charged for and did regularly in the holidays. But then he wanted to take everything with him, presumably to drop it for shipment…

Have you thought about chiropractic? It's not for everyone, but it can help with pain, even just 1 visit can help especially if you're just "tweaked" and haven't actually injured yourself. Ask your running buddies if they can recommend someone and find someone you're comfortable with. I don't go often, but I run about the…

I had some success getting past plateaus but cutting (a) wheat; (b) cow dairy; (c) high-sugar fruits; and (d) alcohol. Not for a long time, usually just 10-14 days at a time, and not necessarily all at the same time. I generally do not eat wheat or high-sugar fruit. Like others have mentioned, carbs aren't necessarily the…

During the week I comment a lot (mostly to avoid working). You might get sick of me in fact. But hey, you asked for it so... ADD ME PLEASE!

I went up to 1400 and try to eat a whole food diet. Check my diary. But not too closely; I have been a little off plan this week. :) It is really, REALLY hard to eat 1400 cal, plus exercise cal, of all whole foods! I eat a lot of peanut butter and celery, a lot of black beans and quinoa, a lot of oatmeal. Very little fruit…

I see you've already lost 12 pounds. That's a great start! How long has it taken you to lose 12 pounds? Are you sticking to your healthy eating plan? Logging your food, drinks and exercise honestly? Natural weight loss is a long process and is a long-term solution. WLS is a quick fix and comes with all sorts of quick-fix…

Kicking on your stomach, face in the water. "Prone" just means face down. I learned to teach based on the Red Cross WSI method. "Prone float" and "prone kick" are often-used terms in WSI. I'm pretty sure my swim instructors growing up were trained by the same method, it never occurred to me that the terms might not be…

Here's the thing: "starvation mode" as fact or fiction, your body needs a certain amount of fuel every day to function. If you don't get that fuel, your body can't just take it from what's already inside your body, not all of it. So no, you won't starve to death if you tried to eat like your [insensitive and misinformed!]…

Yes and yes. Also, you probably need to add in some strength training to all that elliptical work, or you might find yourself too skinny with too little muscle tone.

I'd say swimming. You WILL build muscle swimming. I can only speak from experience swimming and coaching, I don't know the exact exercise physiology behind it but I think it's the natural resistance of pushing/pulling your body through the water. Not that swimming can replace strength training altogether but you'll see a…

I just thought of something! Head over to the resale shops in Berkeley (Crossroads, Buffalo Exchange, Plato's closet) and sell whatever you can for credit, and then buy yourself some new duds. When you lose more weight and grow out of those, take them back, resell them, and buy new ones with the credit. You won't get a 1:1…

I'm an attorney and I also need to project a professional image. My budget isn't quite as tight as yours, but I definitely don't have time for shopping, and who can afford to replace their wardrobe with every 10 pound weight loss anyway? I'm 15 pounds down, and all I've bought is 2 pairs of jeans (NONE of my old jeans…

My total today was 3,778, 2627 of that from dinner. I normally consume 1400 cal so today was a big day. :) I had small portions, didn't clean my plate, and no seconds, but I did have 4 glasses of wine and lots of sweets. I ran my first 5k this morning and then ate a 995 calorie high carb, high fat late breakfast. I was…

I'll log in the morning, but not dinner. I'm not going to measure portions in the buffet line or whip out my phone during dinner to log all my food. If I can remember later what I ate later, I'll log it later. I started on MFP to stop my weight from running my life decisions, and I won't let my self-imposed MPF obligations…

I'm not weighing or measuring again before THG, so here's my final goal check-in. GOALS: Weight 150 Waist 29 Body Fat 28% No cow dairy, no alcohol, no sweets. NOV 21, 2011: Weight 148.25!! Waist 30.75 (no change) Body Fat 29% (down 1%) No dairy: mostly No alcohol: yes, except for Nov 18-19 No sweets: yes All in all that's…

Thanks guys, great tips! I'm measuring every three or four weeks. I'm not doing the measuring myself, I have my trainer do it because she's trained and knows where to measure every time, and is less likely to mess it up than I am. My last measurements were taken Nov 1. Normally I'd wait until Dec 1 to measure but I'm doing…

You guys, it's so great to see where so many of our personal habits come from. I love reading that a lot of us learned good things from our parents too. Jill____: That's sad to hear that your mum still picks on you, I'm sorry. Treating other people poorly really comes from our own insecurities, doesn't it?

Great job everyone for sticking to your fitness plans! Quick 1.5 today, 3 mi tomorrow, 5k Turkey Trot Thurs, 2.5-4 mi Saturday. I might squeeze in a Friday run depending on how much I feel like a Macy's Thanksgiving Day float. @wbgolden, you are my hero with your post-Thanksgiving half marathon.

A teenage girl can walk into a doctor's office and get birth control at age 15 without parental permission. If my 15 year old came to me to ask about birth control, I'd be thankful that she felt comfortable talking to mommy about it. We'd also have a long talk about self-respect and self-value, and make sure she wasn't…

If you have any kind of problem with sweets, you'll never be able to ditch your sweet tooth as long as you are drinking diet soda (and eating sugar free candy, using sugar free creamer, over-using non-sugar sweeteners, etc.). The more "sweet" you give your body, the more it wants it. Remember that study a few years back…

Last week's workouts: Monday: 27 minute treadmill run, 2.3 miles, 235 calories; Tuesday: 40 minute outdoor run, 3.4 miles, 401 calories; Wednesday: 20 minutes elliptical, 200 calories; 5 minute treadmill run, .5 miles, 60 calories; Thursday: 35 minutes circuit training, 318 calories; Friday off Saturday: 38 minute outdoor…

I agree with what the majority of people are saying: do it! The strength training will help you shed those last few stubborn pounds, and will prevent the awkward thin-flabby body some people get after weight loss. Also, it's fun. :) I also think you should increase your calories a little, making sure to keep eating healthy.

Basically the same thing here. I'm doing a 5k Thanksgiving morning and will probably go on a walk with my family Christmas morning. I'll be watching my food intake closely the days before and after Christmas, but will probably give myself a "break" regarding alcohol consumption around Christmas and on NYE. ;) I'm not…

Wow! You look fantastic! You also look younger and happier. The picture of you post 5k IN THE SNOW has made me realize my "it's so dark" and "it's too cold" excuses for not running are super lame. There are a ton of tricks out there to help push you over the edge to your final goal. Mine was to go "off plan" for 2 days,…
