At first, keep it simple. See the nice flow chart and look at the red circle. It boils down to Eat Less, Move More. MFP can help you track both and establish goals to achieve your desired result.

Like many kickboxing type workouts, TaeBo is a great calorie burn and total body workout. I got in great shape with the original recordings and I'm sure they've only improved since then. My only warning is that you may want to talk to your MD if you have any physical ailments and how the moves may impact them because some…

I've got all of the qualifications if you want to add me. Been up and down on the scales a couple of times but making a comeback.

I mostly prefer older electronica with 135 - 140 bpm to keep an optimal pace and heart rate. One of my favorites is Atomic Dance Explosion by trance[]control

Good information with a clear message - go see a professional to learn how to strength train appropriately and gain the maximum benefit for both muscular strength and cardiovascular health. <=>

Bad analogy since prehistoric man generally didn't live long enough to die from heart disease. All they had to do for the species to survive is to live long enough to reproduce. That being said, I'm sure they didn't do enough of the strenuous lifting referenced in the articles to impact their CV health.

I was most successful losing weight when I ate back most or all of my exercise calories and maintaining a consistent calorie deficit each day.

I wanted to do cardio outside and I don't like to bike. It also took learning a mid-foot strike so I could run with a bad back.

Endomondo is a great running app and syncs seamlessly with MFP. It's also the best that I've tried for tracking non-GPS related fitness activities in the gym. If you plan on only using an app only for running, I've also heard that Runtastic is excellent.

fitbit is a good option for tracking all day activities but it won't give you nearly as accurate of a calorie count for exercise as a heart rate monitor.

Soy? Really? You're not buying into the phyto-estrogen arguments, are you?

there are so many excellent, easy veg recipes is really comes down to how much time or money you want to spend, and what you like. My usual lunch these days is an Annie Chun's Miso or Udon Soup Bowl with a handful of frozen veggie mix thrown in. It's filling, tasty, quick (about 3-4 minutes to fix, and less than 300…

Not even any thoughts of logging at all. I'm not going to even guess at the calories. Back to it tomorrow though.

I worked with a Dr. Harry Ennis. It would have been even better if he was a proctologist but he was an OB/GYN.

Any of these numbers will work for you but it will take a little time for your body to adjust; make sure you give it that time and don't get too discouraged or distraught. the bottom line is that you need to give your body the fuel it needs for the workouts and to build the muscle. There are two other important factors to…

I'm one of those obnoxious early risers and get to the gym between 5 - 5:30 am on most weekday mornings. It is certainly less crowded at my gym but by no means empty; generally about 20 of us; some for spin or body pump, some for weight training, and the rest just for cardio.

I can't believe I missed. Late hugs to all runners (and the rest of you also).

I eat 5 times a day. I keep my primary meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) smaller than I used to and then fit in a healthy snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon, something like a protein bar that is well balanced and doesn't require a break to eat.

A good general philosophy is that weight loss occurs in the kitchen and fitness occurs in the gym (or on the road). Weight loss is really about the consistent daily calorie deficit which can be achieved without cardiovascular exercise. That's not necessarily what I would recommend, though.

community makes a big difference. It helped me with my success last year and I'm looking for more in my second phase of fitness this year. Feel free to add me too and good luck.

Without quoting her entire post, please read CaliforniaGirl2012's advice. If you are exercising more, you may need to increase your calories to maintain a reasonable daily deficit. I can tell you from own experience that keeping the daily calorie deficit (number of calories burned minus number of calories consumed) between…

anyone posting their progress on these forums is looking for feedback and should be open to either positive reinforcement or some constructive help. Whether you choose to give the latter is up to you and they can take it as they wish. My personal preference is to stay positive and supportive when necessary and not assume I…

That's definitely not the way to get the calories back. If you aren't hungry don't eat. But you also may want to look at more nutrient and calorie rich foods to give you the fuel you'll need. I supplement with protein bars. Also, spread the food out; eat 5 smaller meals a day. Regarding eating back your exercise calories,…

If you want to be skinny, just eat less. If you want to be healthy, exercise. Most of us here will agree that the latter is preferable.
