What's in a number?
After having great success on MFP and losing more than 80 lbs over the past year, I decided to reset all numbers to enter a new stage for health and fitness goals. Now, when I attach my ticker to posts, its reads that I have only lost 3 lbs rather than the 80 I have lost in total. The question is whether that impacts the…

If you need a little inspiration...
this was shared by Natali Morris on Twitter yesterday. I hope it provides everyone else with that little bit of extra inspiration to let you know that you can do this. http://youtu.be/qX9FSZJu448

Paleo/primal vegetarian?
While the paleo/primal camp espouse that our genome has not evolved in the last 3 million years, I'd like to think that our intellect (and possibly, our morality) has. To try to satisfy both camps, I'm going to attempt to go primal ovo-vegetarian. I'm already lacto-ovo veg, but I'm going to eschew dairy, grains, and…

Will you stop logging when you reach your goal(s)?
The healthiest people I know don't log their calories or workouts. They live healthy lifestyles that balance nutrition and exercise. Do you feel that you will ever be in that place where you can stop logging? If you reach your goals and maintain that level of fitness, is that the indicator? Advice is worth exactly what you…

Willpower
I heard a great interview on public radio this morning with the author of a new book called "Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength". They were discussing willpower and weight loss and I thought there were a few very interesting points that I would share. 1. People who give themselves continuous feedback on…

Different approach to calorie deficit
I'm just wondering if anyone has tried and been successful on MFP with an approach where you set your goals as weight maintenance but don't eat back your exercise calories. For me, that would mean being at a calorie deficit of 600 - 1100 calories on exercise days and calorie neutral on my rest day. The advantage, as I see…

An early Christmas present (with pics)
I received an early Christmas present today. I gave it to myself. I decided to check-in a day early because things will probably get hectic this weekend. And what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a number not seen in many a year. (Okay, that enough verse.) I have reached my current goal weight; a weight I didn't…

Favorite 300 calorie dinner
On some days, I find myself short on calories as dinner approaches. When that occurs, this is my favorite sub-300 calorie meal. Panera Organic Tomato Bisque - 1.75 cups Large Homemade Garden Salad - about 3 cups Salsa Verde (Goya or Herdez) as salad dressing - 3 tbsp What's your favorite?

Vacation consequences?
I have been on vacation (well, stay-cation) all this week, and while I have been keeping up with my exercise, I haven't been as diligent with my diet with more than a couple of days over my goal. I expected to put on a little weight and survived with only an extra 1.4 lbs in the end which I can make short work of this…

You call this an NSV?
With autumn in full swing and winter around the corner, I'd just like to say "OMG, is it cold?!?" I wandering around in these cooler temperatures without the extra sixty pounds of insulation and I don't know if I'll be warm again until spring. Is this what winter really feels like??? Somebody hand me a thicker coat. :-)

NSV - no CPAP, no snoring
Anyone who has suffered from sleep apnea knows the health risks, hassles and discomfort that go with it. The leading risk factor for sleep apnea is, you guessed it, obesity. If you're overweight and not getting enough rest at night, you might want to talk to your doctor about a diagnosis. I've been sleeping with a CPAP…

NSVs - pulling the family in my wake
One of the great victories we can have in this journey is inspiring others to come along with us. It's especially gratifying when they are the people nearest to us who we love dearly. This week, my 16 year old daughter says to my wife, "I want to do what Dad is doing to get in shape." We'll be seeing her here on MFP real…

The importance of updating your goals
This site and its associated apps are great tools for helping us all lose weight. One of the features I recently found to be more important than I realized is the need to update my goals for a more accurate calorie count. I've been on the site for a couple of months now and had some good success in improving my fitness and…
