I had this at the beginning of the year, something like six colds in five months - it got so bad I lost count. It may have been due to eating at a deficit - I've also read that your immune system is weaker if eating at a deficit. It wasn't a huge deficit - I was eating around 1500 Cals including exercise Cals - which is…

I started at 22 ish (UK sizes) I was in denial and refused to buy anything bigger, so the clothes were tight, very tight. Now I'm a loose 16 or tight 14 (so probably a 15 if they made that  )

I also walk as much as I can (not owning a car helps) and it always surprises me quite how far you get in a half hour walk, I certainly cover more distance than I thought I could. Cycling is another matter - the drivers terrify me far to much to take my life in my hands with that. If I can't cycle on the pavement (and…

That sounds good Kitty - I'll keep posting updates so you know when we're out and about

It took a while for people to notice - I was down about 30 lb before I started getting comments. And then people would say I was looking really well. I didn't realise they meant thinner for a while till I noticed that a lot of people kept telling me I looked really well. Them being subtle I suppose. The best compliment…

Squeeze - no actually - fit comfortably into a kayak;-)

I have been on MFP for 500 days today! I've lost 30 kg (66 lb) so far and when I started I would never have believed that I'd still be doing this now. It's been a slow journey, mainly because I love my food too much to go for the big losses so have set myself to 1 lb loss a week and I'm taking it easy exercise…

I love that idea!

I haven't heard about it and have to say I don't know many atheists who believe in astrology either. I think this is a rumour that hasn't hit the UK yet

In the UK Christmas is just one giant party. With only just under 50% of the population identifying themselves as religious, and the majority of those not even going to church, most people just treat it as family and party time. There's always a great vibe with lots of good will towards everyone, but very little mention of…

I was brought up going to Catholic church every Sunday and Sunday school before that, but I would never say I was brought up Catholic because religion was never mentioned at home and we had no religious symbols around the house. So when I turned 18, after quite a few years of mulling it over, I came out and told my parents…

Ice cream! I just love, love, love it

Well done what a great success story and what a great idea to get a dog. I also found myself being more active when I got a pet, and my neighbours, who I have never spoken to in 12 years, suddenly all started talking to me too - it works!

Funnily enough in the old Atkins book they pretty much say eat whatever you want, just low carbs and you'll be fine, but the New Atkins book says you have to control calories too. They recommend 1500 to 1700 Cals for women. I work on 1500 Cals which takes into account exercise calories as well, and that's working for me. I…

I also live in the UK and there isn't much in the way of pressure, but I have had a couple of people come to my door to try and get me to come to a prayer group or similar. I tell them I'm not religious and they usually go away then, if they try to find out why I'm not religious or start proselytising I tell them they have…

My BF is strongly Catholic and yes, it does cause tensions. Maybe that's why he's still only a BF!

Well hello, I was a lurker for quite a few months too, just reading other people's posts and absorbing all their advice but it is nice to have a few pals to keep yourself motivated and to provide support in return. Feel free to add me if you like. There's also a UK forum so you can meet people in the same time zone. I have…

Well said!

I second the MBT shoes - I've had PF in the left foot and just as that cleared up I did my right foot in and the only thing that has worked for me is wearing MBTs every day. They are expensive but they really do work and the plus is you burn more calories when wearing them as your leg muscles have to work harder because…

I think this may vary a lot, depending on technique etc but, using my HRM I burned 194 calories in half an hour. I tend to swing the scythe around quite widely and send grass flying - it works for me that way but isn't very neat. I'm female, 156 cm and 80 kg with moderate fitness - I have no idea whether the figures I get…

Hi Everyone. I've been on this site for the last 14 months! It really works for me. I'm also in SE London and would love to meet more MFP people in the capital.
-
I'm in London and would certainly be up for a coffee group

Yes, you are supposed to eat back your exercise calories but be careful with assessing actual calories burned during exercise. MFP's list of exercises tends to over exaggerate calories burned. I've recently started using a HRM and discovered that my actual calorie burn is about half what MFP was giving me, which might…

Walking is good so you're doing the right thing there. If you have a pool somewhere near you then fitting in a swim or two a week helps to tone and is low impact which is often helpful. You can try out all the exercise videos by taking a look on You Tube and trying them out before deciding you want to shell out the money…

UK - London, which practically is it's own country

I'll post to the MissFits but I'm pretty sure that the crew are all logging honest burns. The only one who's been over the top is me and that's because I'm on holiday and doing some serious digging, swinging a pickaxe and breaking up bricks all in the name of gardening. I don't own a HRM so using MFP calories burned. I…

Hi Liz I've been on MFP for just over a year now and lost about a lb a week, which was fine for me, because cutting back on how much I eat was the hardest thing and I felt like if I cut back too much I wouldn't be able to stick to the new lifestyle change. My first 2 months I also did no exercise because I just didn't feel…

The MissFits have set sail, or should I say, deployed oars

A Chilean weightlifter - happily of the female persuasion (if there were sumo wrestlers in the Olympics that's what I would have been expecting!)
