Here's mine: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/davemunger/view/hitting-reset-645184 Hope this isn't too disconcerting. The moral of the story is, be ready for mud!

... and now it's time to sign up for April. No foolin'! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1239137-don-t-be-a-fool-take-the-april-challenge

According to the race results site the masters women winner ran a 17:08 and the top 10 masters women were under 19 minutes.

Hey everyone, I made the spreadsheet for April but I haven't had time to create the new discussion thread for it. But if you want to enter your goals / miles, go for it: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkmK3myW0PepdGVJNW91R05zN2F0WTF1R1NqbjFTZVE

So since I dropped out of the 50-mile at 50K do I qualify for a 50K sticker? Or should I go for DNF? They definitely exist! http://www.cafepress.com/+dnf+bumper-stickers

I took the USATF certification course a couple years ago and was amazed to find that even 100-meter runners do tempos of around 60 meters or so! So when someone says they are doing a tempo, it pays to find out exactly what they are talking about!
-
BTW, I'm curious -- how close was your Garmin to an exact 5K? I know they bill this course as a very fast course, so you'd think they'd be very accurate with the measurement.
-
I have recorded over 600 activities on my Garmin and I can count on one hand the number of times it has messed up my running data. It's completely freaked out a couple of times, but the other thing it does sometimes is generates a "corrupt" file, which won't upload to Garmin Connect or display information like lap times on…

I have had my Garmin completely twit out on me a couple times. It seems to happen for just a single run -- it's like it has gone completely haywire. One time it said I was running a 5:00 mile pace, uphill -- something I've never done under any conditions. Then I looked at the map afterwards and it had me in a completely…

Well, I came short of finishing the 50-miler. It was super muddy and rainy and I could only manage 50K. Still the farthest I've ever race, and most definitely the toughest race I have ever entered. An amazing experience, and I only wish I had been able to see if I could finish it under dry conditions. Here's the recap:…

Wow, way to hit it for all four races. Well done! And awesome to see the record as well.

Depending on the individual training plan, "tempo" run can have a lot of different meanings. McMillan defines a Tempo run as a 10-to 40-minute run. Given that you can run 28 minutes at a 9:06 pace, you shouldn't have a problem running 10 minutes at McMillan's recommended pace of 9:16 to 9:35. The effort for a tempo should…

Just making sure you understand the interface: The first page you get when you enter your time is not your training paces -- it is your projected time in other distances. So if you enter 30 minutes for a 5K, it projects 1:02 for a 10K and 8:38 for a mile. These are the times you might achieve in an all-out race, provided…

Mcmillanrunning.com Great site -- it allows you to enter you PR at any distance and it will predict how fast you should be able to run at another distance. So if you can run a 30-minute 5K, then it will tell you how fast it expects you to go in a 10K (provided you have actually done the training for a 10K!).

Thanks...I didn't realize this. But sometimes they do feel a little tight at the end of a long run. Since I've never gone this far I'm concerned that they would really start being constrictive.
-
Hmm... I guess I could always start out with both sets and then remove one of them if I start to feel like I have less room than I'd like. Good point.
-
Tentative plan is to remove the flat insole and just run with the thicker one. This gives me a little more room in the shoe, which I will probably need as my feet will inevitably swell by the end of this race.

I guess I should share my story too! I started getting serious about running roughly 4 and a half years ago, when I joined a running group. They encouraged me to run a marathon, which I did in 2011. After a couple more marathons, I qualified for Boston, and ran Boston in 2013. But while my marathon times weren't improving,…

Great, I've started the group now -- join here. Anyone who has completed a 5K is welcome to join. We're just looking for folks who are beyond the c25k stage. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/20559-run-faster-5ks

Thanks for posting this Doug! I'm actually not even signed up for any 5Ks right now but I am thinking about this one on October 5: http://www.festivalofraces.com/ This is the U.S. National Master's championship. Based on last year's results I wouldn't have a shot at winning my age group but it would be exciting to race…

I've just started a group for runners interested in improving their 5K times -- why not join up? http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/20559-run-faster-5ks

There is so much wrong with this statement that it is totally right!

On the elliptical? I'm not even sure what "mileage" means. The elliptical isn't going anywhere and the mileage has no relationship to reality. You can't even compare two different brands of ellipticals. It's possible that it's *harder* to do a 20-minute 5K on your elliptical than it is to run one. You've said an injury…

According to Runner's World, using a standing desk burns an extra 163 calories per day: http://www.runnersworld.com/health/using-standing-desk-boosts-calorie-burn

Under 19 for four races would be amazing! Smart of you to save something after the first race. I did a similar event a while back (but it was 1, 2, and 3-milers). I went all-out in the mile and just tried to hang on for the other events. It was a long day!

There is a HUGE difference between a 6:00-ish pace for a mile or two and a half marathon. I have run a 5K at 5:49 pace but the best I can do in a half is 6:36. Or to put it a different way: Age grade for a 60-year-old running a 6:00 mile: 76% ("regional class") Age grade for a 60-year-old running a 6:00 pace for a…

I don't believe just anyone can run a 6-minute pace for 13.1 miles. That works out to 1:18:39. Just 180 out of over 20,000 runners in the NYC half marathon did that -- that's less than 1 percent. I guarantee you that many, many more than that were maxing out their training, but they couldn't do it. They had reached their…

Woohoo! Congrats rdhulir! I'd love to see more updates as everyone achieves their goals! let's keep this thread going. By the way, I didn't really have goals at the beginning of the year but now they are starting to emerge: 1. Complete my first 50-miler (March 29, in 3 days) 2. Complete the Pike's Peak Marathon 3. Break my…

I think it depends on what your level of fitness was when you started. It sounds like the 5k program wasn't too difficult for you so you might have had a base level of fitness that was higher than the typical 5Ker. One key to avoiding injury is to have a solid running-based strength training program. I haven't had a…

I think the little dips are actually river crossings -- they aren't really canyons, it's just that you're on the bridge but the map gives you the elevation of the river below. See this post for more: http://sciencebasedrunning.com/2011/10/adjusting-for-gps-elevation-troubles/
