Way to go for being honest with yourself! :flowerforyou: Chalk it up to experience and move on.

My bodyfat scale has been shipped and should be arriving soon! I'm not comfortable with the measurements I'm getting from my calipers. They are all over the place, but I guess you get more consistent with practice. I'm getting about 22% body fat, which seems high to me, given my weight. How many more pounds of fat could I…

Yogurt, graham crackers, even kashi products, all can have a lot of added sugar. They're not always as healthy as they are advertised to be. I avoid sugars like the plague, but that's me. I eat plain yogurt, I don't eat graham crackers, I personally don't like Kashi products, and I limit my cheeses. (I probably eat way too…

It depends upon your definition of "fulfilling." For me, I'd rather have my health than food that tastes good for a few minutes and then leaves me feeling horrible emotionally and physically afterward. I've found that the best antidepressant is eating whole, healthy foods. I refuse to give my health away anymore to "foods"…

It's the binging. Whether or not you burn the calories, poor food choices can make the scale go up immediately. For me, I will without fail see three added pounds the following day. :noway: It's not fat, it's water weight, and it will go back down in a matter of days once you get your diet cleaned up again. Binge foods…

I just posted this elsewhere, but thought I'd share my "weight loss" story here: Two years ago, I was: 125 Size 12, and that was getting tight :grumble: I saw my mother's body when I looked in the mirror :noway: Today at 40, I am: 116-119 Size 6-8 because of strength training (and clean eating!) I feel better than I did at…

Hi, jstbeachy. I just turned 40 a couple weeks ago. I have had the same positive experience as others with the weight lifting. I've been doing it for over two years, and it has changed my body (and the clothes I can wear) completely. I am 5'2". Two years ago, I was: 125 Size 12, and that was getting tight :grumble: I saw…

Excellent post. I'm not sure whether this was mentioned because I don't have time to read every page, but it bears repeating: The reason we exercise, and then eat all of our exercise calories -- even though it seems like a "wash" :grumble: -- is in order keep our muscle. Ideally, everyone should be doing strength training…

I was too busy to track my foods yesterday, and when I was home, the kids were on the computer! I have a feeling I didn't eat enough.... :ohwell: I have another plan with my calories because I think I'm actually eating too much most days. I'm not gaining, but I don't think I'm at loss levels, either. The formula that I…

Recipes ... what fun! Thanks, Jess, I'm printing yours out and I look forward to trying them. Alf, I'll get to those pancakes, but first.... :flowerforyou: Chocolate-Banana Protein Bars 2 large ripe banana bars 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 2 Tbs. unsweetened cocoa powder 3 large raw egg whites 4 oz. nonfat milk 2 1/2 c.…

I found some steel cut oatmeal at Walmart. (I'm becoming more and more impressed with the healthy foods they are carrying, I'm a little embarrassed to say :blushing: , but they help save me money!) I've long wondered what all the fuss was about, and how steel cut was different from regular oatmeal, and now that I've tried…

Eat only whole, healthy foods. It satisfies the body much better than processed food. I hardly ever have cravings anymore, and I used to be ruled by them.

Hi, mischle! We support each other in our efforts to eat clean, swap recipe and meal ideas, ask and answer questions, and some of us post our meals and exercise for the day to show examples of clean eating in practice and also to help keep ourselves accountable. We simply share in the joy of clean eating -- some of us are…

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers, everyone! My daughter is doing better today. She has more energy, more of an appetite, and is in better spirits. I'm crossing my fingers that she really is getting better this time! As for me, I am at home with her again today, but I did get to the gym this morning. Exercise: Chest,…

Just about everyone needs more than 1200 calories per day, IMO. That's a level for only the extremely sedentary or the very small. I ate at 1200 for several months and it was nothing but frustration. Nothing budged on my body in either direction. Over the last few weeks, I've slowly increased my base level to 1550 and my…

It doesn't have to be wild zig-zagging. It simply means eat at fat loss levels for a few days, and then eat at maintenance level for a day (you can do it in several combinations, 3 and 1, 3 and 3, whatever you find works best for you). The idea is to keep your body from ever going into starvation mode and to give it the…

I missed the whole thing because my 12yo dd is sick with pneumonia  and as excited as we've been to witness the moment, she isn't up for watching TV. I'll have to read about it in the papers.

My poor daughter has pneumonia. :brokenheart: I'm not logging my foods today (but I will be eating clean) because I need to focus on her. It has really been a long haul, and it's starting to wear her down.  (This calls for a little sweetener in my coffee today. I need some comfort food while I comfort…

I think I'll share some recipes for a while, instead of posting my meals. Here's one I want to make, as soon as I get some protein powder. I'd like to have a healthy, homemade bar to take in my cooler or purse when I'm out and can't get to any other food. :flowerforyou: Homemade Chocolate Protein Bars 2 1/2 cups oats 1…

Nope, it's not PMS time, so I don't know why I'm feeling a little "off" with my eating. My meals haven't been regularly spaced or portioned out as well as I'd like, and appetite has been a little out of wack. My older daughter is still sick. Day 10 -- we're wondering whether she may have mono. Today was yet another…

My friends and our kids liked it, too. When I spend that much money on entertainment, though, I guess I do expect it to be thought-provoking, but I'm almost as picky about those things as I am about what I eat. I don't like "processed" entertainment any more than I like processed food. :ohwell: Glad you had a…

Hey, everyone, I'm here. Just need a little break from posting. I had a bit of "crack" (sugar) fest last night, and it wasn't pretty.  Chocolate, pretzels, buttered popcorn, and whatever else I could find to shove in my mouth, but I'm back on track today. The scale showed the damage this morning, too. :frown:…

It was scary for me! And I hesitated, too -- for weeks. If you're tall, you may need more. When you're heavy, your body needs more calories to maintain itself. I've just heard some people recommend (not here) that you eat like you're already the weight you want to become, but that's a dangerous way to try to lose…

You may not be eating enough, and your body is holding onto fat because it thinks it's starving. 1200 calories a day is only for someone who is either very small, and/or very sedentary. It's not enough for someone who exercises. I would try adding more calories (100 or 200 more per day) for a couple of weeks and see what…
