Sorry to bring this thread up again, but I just wanted to update you all. It's 2 weeks since I started trying to kick my diet coke habit and I've really managed to cut down thanks to the support and encouragement on this thread. Last week I was having one can a day, this week I've only had 4 cans in total, not full cans…

Sparkling water.

Nonnymousse1 - I agree with you, it is a really bad addiction! If I could tell my younger self something, it would be not to drink sodas as one a few times a week quickly becomes a 3 or 4 times a day habit. It's worrying thinking how many young children think nothing of drinking a diet soda. I'm so glad my 11 year old…

Yes, I've noticed I'm saving money too which is great!

I'm not sure about going cold turkey. After 24+ hours I've started with an awful headache which won't shift with painkillers, but will with a diet coke - not good! So this week I'm going to try to go a bit longer between drinks. Actually, I feel rather proud of myself cutting down to one can a day. Thanks everyone for all…

Actually, I'd have to agree with you about less stomach upset - certainly feel much less gassy! :blushing: I still crave sugary treats, probably because I'm not having a diet coke so I want something else instead. Think I need to work on that one......

RuningRichel: that's the first time I've heard of kombucha - I've just googled it to find out more. Have you noticed any health benefits due to stopping the diet soda?
-
Duckymoo: I'm drinking lots of chilled sparkling mineral water as well as plain water which helps a lot. So far I've not really noticed any difference in how I feel, except maybe I'm a little less bloated.

An update: since starting this thread last week, I have managed to cut down my diet coke consumption to just one can per day! I am pleased with this, as it means I've only had 7 cans in the last week instead of 21 - 28 so that's a big improvement. However, I need to try to cut back further. I've been getting…

Fantastic!!! I've just managed 25 hours then the craving got too much.... However, the next gap will be even longer!

I think it's a good idea to slowly phase out the diet coke. I'm planning to slowly reduce the amount I drink and will have just one can later today if I really really feel I need it, aiming to make the space between drinks longer. It's quite scary how much of a hold diet drinks can have over us. A big well done to everyone…

Well, I've amazed myself so far today as it's almost 24 hours since I last had a diet coke! I feel fine so far, no headache or anything. Today I have drunk plain water and, when I started to feel a craving for something else(!), I had a glass of sparkling mineral water with ice and a couple of slices of lime. It…

Well done everyone. You all look amazing and are such an inspiration!

Right, I have a plan, thanks to all the advice on here. First of all, I must must must stop drinking the diet coke!! I've just been shopping and bought some sparkling mineral water, some fresh limes to make the fruit-infused water suggested in post#2 and NO diet coke. I have 3 cans left in my fridge and I'm going…

"I think it is healthier not to drink them, but don't expect any magical change when you stop." That's a shame - I was really hoping it would kick-start weight loss and I'd feel much better and have lots more energy...............

Thanks for all the replies. I know I need to do this for lots of reasons. I've not lost weight for ages (in fact I've put some on though have avoided the scales) and wonder if the diet coke is causing me to crave sugary and carbohydrate snacks, which I have far too many of. I feel (and look) bloated around my middle.…

Fruit-infused water sounds nice, think I'll try that. Have you noticed any improvements to your health since you stopped drinking the diet drinks?

Happy New Year to you - hope you achieve your goal this year.

Very motivational!

I know just what you mean, it can be difficult sometimes to balance a social life with trying to lose weight! When I go out I often drive so no calories from alcohol to worry about! However, I have a very slim friend who has a great social life. She eats out a lot and has what she wants (although I've noticed she rarely…

Oh, and portion control - weigh everything, use a smaller plate and drink plenty of water.

With exercising I think the most important thing is to find something you enjoy doing. I attend a local zumba class as often as I can and love going. It's great fun and feels more like an evening out - the fact that I'm getting so much exercise is a bonus! I've been going for a year now and try to fit in one or two classes…

I like 'Think Positive' that's on your photo.

Hi. I'd love to join too. I'm 45 with one child. I've managed to lose 10 lbs already using this site and would love more support for the next 30 lbs!
-
Sounds like a good plan! (Though shocked to realise Christmas day is exactly 3 months away today, doesn't time fly?!!) I'm in too. Current weight: 158 lbs Goal for Christmas: 138 lbs. Just thought, 20 lbs lighter means we'll all be asking Santa for new clothes in a smaller size for Christmas!

Fantastic - I can see a real difference too. Keep up the good work!

2/1 - Zumba 60 minutes, brisk walk (to and from Zumba) 15 minutes. Total 75 minutes. 3/1 - Cleaning (including moving furniture and hoovering) 60 minutes. 4/1 - Wii Zumba Fitness 20 minutes. Total: 2 hours, 35 minutes I just love this challenge!
-
Just wondering whether or not to count cleaning as part of this exercise challenge? I worked hard for an hour and even moved furniture around to hoover behind it. What do you all think? 2/1 - Zumba 60 minutes, brisk walk (to and from Zumba) 15 minutes. Total 75 minutes. 3/1 - Cleaning (including moving furniture and…

2/1 - Zumba 60 minutes, brisk walk (to and from Zumba) 15 minutes. Total 75 minutes. It feels so good to be exercising again. I've got to shift the 3lbs I've managed to put on over Christmas!

You're doing really well. MFP is a wonderful site, I agree it does make losing weight easy as long as you log everything and stick within your calorie allowance. Well done - keep up the good work!
