Do you both workout but at different times or different activities? If you don't enjoy the same exercises, I don't think there's any need to do it together. If there's something that you both do, maybe you could have that be a "workout date" each week. My hubby & I rarely workout together anymore, but if we have a big…

awesome! (also good to know, b/c I had to buy a size 16 bridesmaid dress (discontinued color = crappy selection) & I hope to take it down a few sizes by next may) I love dress #2, but if you're uncomfortable in it, go with #1. Have fun! :)

depo made me gain too, but you can lose weight while you're on it.. you just have to be crazy diligent with your food tracking & exercise. If you are really struggling with the weight gain or having other unwanted side effects, maybe your doc can recommend a different BC for you to try after this depo runs out. (I went…

@lwhite - love your avatar! :) @ anyone else - add me too if you want. I started around 205 last year (had been up to 215 before mfp). I lost about 35 in a year, but I also stopped counting calories for the last 4 months (and went back up about 10lb) due to training for a half marathon & being away from home this summer.…

try cross training with something that isn't using your legs so much, your muscles need a rest. (and still slow down your pace, it wont hurt too bad if you fall off going slow.) ;)
-
I'd guess it's mostly mental since you had a bad experience last time. Go ahead and try the last week again if you want. It's ok to repeat a day/week until you are comfortable. I would suggest slowing your pace if you are struggling physically to finish. If you work first on endurance, you can work later on speed.

ah, ok. There should be somewhere that you can input your actual resting heart rate that you measure first thing in the morning. I don't have the same brand as you so sorry that I can't be more specific. I think this might make a difference for your calories burned, but either way don't be discouraged. Just find something…

I'm not sure I understand what you meant by "it calculated my "resting" heartrate (well, before I started the next exercise) ". The best way to get your resting heart rate is to take your pulse as soon as you wake up before getting out of bed. MFP's estimates are usually WAY off (on the high side), so it's good that you…

^^^^ THIS THIS THIS!!! ^^^^ I wish that class instructors would call ppl out about not wiping equipment down at the end of class. I've started wiping my spin bike down before class too.

I'm so sorry you had to witness that. I agree with the poster above about seeking some counseling. Anxiety is totally normal after such a traumatic event, but don't let it control you.
-
Sorry if this has already been said, I didn't read every reply. I know you said that your wife doesn't want to get up and try things, but maybe in the future you could ask/invite her to a new class anyway? If you try to make her feel involved she might not be so defensive when you go to class. My dad used to have a similar…

i hope you have a great time!

you can walk.. I'd suggest choosing a large 5k or one that has a walker category to make sure they don't shut down the finish on you. (My first VERY small 5k shut down the time clock before the all of the walkers finished and they were all very upset.. I was kind of btwn the runners & walkers b/c I'm a slow runner & I saw…

I actually find running outside easier b/c I don't get bored..I can go farther without wondering when I can stop. I am slow as crap, so IDK about the speed difference for 'normal' people, but I find that I'm pretty consistent wherever I run. I would suggest running outside in the wind/rain sometimes just so you know how it…

you look amazing! (& I love your haircut too!)

You could e sweating more than you think into your hair, but it gets trapped/evaporates there instead of dripping off. When I cut my hair really short I noticed my sweat dropped off much more than when I had a pony tail. *edited to finish sentence

the MFP calories burned ARE way off. good call. :) you don't always have to push to your max to see results. It is normal to vary your effort within each workout. You can push really hard for 30sec-3 mins or so and then back off a little bit to recover some (maybe grab some water), and then push hard again. Many classes do…

@Melvin - i dont have a polar, so I don't know about the "own zone" thing, but from her OP saying that she felt she slowed way down and was "cheating" I don't think it was working for her. when I googled the polar f4 manual it says "The wrist unit calculates your HRmax according to your age: Maximum heart rate = 220–age.…

this is not true. Max heart rate is different for everyone. You need to figure out what your MAX heart rate is & from there you can figure out your zones. MY zones are set up like this: zone 1 166-176 (easy) zone 2 176-184 (medium) zone 3 184- 192 (hard) zone 4 192 - 202 (very hard) zone 5 202 - peak (extremely hard) If…

+1 Best advice I've seen all day.

Low blood sugar makes me a raging B*. Try eating something w/i 30 mins after you're done working out.

Age: 30 Height: 5'7'' SW: 205 lbs CW: 170 lbs GW: somewhere under 159 lbs (healthy bmi) NSV: actually LIKE pictures of me at a wedding in April. run a marathon in May.

I suggest keeping a log of your weight weekly somewhere other than MFP b/c their charts aren't the best. I keep mine in excel & it is nice to see that even though some weeks I gain, overall I still average about -1 lb per week. I know it is frustrating at first b/c you don't really see the long term loss, you just focus on…

same here. my lowest adult weight was 142 & I looked skeletal.. but I wasnt working out then, I was just eating very little. My goal is somewhere under 159.6 (healthy bmi) & I will just see how it goes when I get there. I think by working out this time, I could weigh less & look better, but idk yet. started 205.4 currently…

did you do any tests to determine your max heart rate or did you just use the default zones? there are a few different ways to find your max heart rate.. I had testing done at my gym & my zones are way higher than the standard charts said they should be. My resting heart rate is around 60, but my zones that I use while…

Sometimes I have the opposite problem.. Before I had a HRM, I always went with the lower number. There's no way to know what is the right number without some kid of measure of how hard you are working. 9mph on elliptical would probably kill me, but some ppl might think it is too slow for them.
-
I'd save up for one of the $80-90 ones (or better). I tried a few cheap ones before I got my current HRM. Would have been cheaper to wait and get the nicer one to start with bc the cheap ones broke/sucked.
-
I also like the sport beans. How far is your "long" run? do you get hungry? You could probably drink sports drink instead of water if you don't like gels/beans & you're not hungry. If you want a "real" snack, I like bananas & pretzels. Go with what sounds appealing & won't upset your stomach.

I'm training for my first full marathon in May. (flying pig) I'd love to have more running friends to help me stay motivated. :)

you look awesome!
