I think that in classes, they should be banned. But not in the general gym area. I quite often use my cell to listen to music while I am doing cardio. And when I do interval training, I often will check facebook/ reply to texts and have found that it helps pass time by quicker.

All great ideas, I like to alternate between jogging and walking when I go. Or I do the 20 minutes Zumba Ab express video (You can youtube it). I am not much of a dancer, but I find it very fun!

I know how you feel! You are probably losing weight, but because you are exercising, you are gaining muscle; which is heavier than fat. I determine my weight loss by scales and by measuring my waist, hips and bust fortnightly.
