  • The first thing I did when I decided on the weight loss surgery was to find a good therapist. I too deal with depression and have for years. But, as a society we have such a dysfunctional relationship with food it's amazing that not everyone has some sort of eating disorder. The surgery does not fix that dysfunction.…
  • It's hard not to compare yourselves with others but don't. This is a personal journey of ups and downs. Embrace them both. Enjoy the ups (weight loss, NSV's, changes in measurements) and learn from the downs (plateaus, changes in body, people in general). Once you realize that this is a life style that you will need to…
  • As long as it is NOT ICEBURG. That does not bother me as I can't stand Iceburg lettuce. Might as well chew on a wet sock. I can eat romaine and any of the leafy lettuces. Love them.
  • You can also check out the Bariatric Foodie Blog. She is great!
  • Frustration is normal. Just take it in stride. You are at the very beginning of this journey. Remember, it's a marathon not a sprint. Keep doing what works for you. Move more, get more protein, and relax. You will be successful! Have a great day!
  • Maintaining during the Holidays is a major accomplishment. You did good girl. It's all about moderation and movement. Keep it up. We have weigh in on Thursday in our work group. I am kind of excited to see what the results are. Don't expect any damage. Have a great day!
  • I'm in. I will be doing 50 at a time. I can see my coworker's face now as I am talking on the phone and doing arm circles. This ought to be a fun day.
  • If that doesn't motivate you, nothing will.
  • What a train wreck!
  • I had gastric banding surgery 15 months ago and it was the best decision I have ever made. Since the surgery I have lost 102 pounds, my diabetes medication and diagnosis, most of my blood pressure medication, my pain meds for my knees as well as most of my insecurities and feelings of failure. Yes I am a LOSER and proud of…
  • Everyone's suggestions are spot on. The only thing I can add is make sure you have plenty of Gas-X strips for after the surgery. The gas pains, from the air they pump into you during surgery, can sometimes be worse than the pain from the incisions. And, liquid tylenol. It took a while for us to find "adult strength" liquid…
  • I once got so dehydrated after a hernia surgery that I ended up in the ICU and having dialysis. Believe me, it's nothing to mess with. Get that water in regardless of how you feel.
  • I have said it before, It's amazing that our relationship with food can be more dysfunctional than our personal relationships. I agree with the others, the head issues are sometimes more difficult to deal with than our stomach issues. I personally see a therapist every couple of weeks. I don't think I could do this without…
  • Great NSV! keep up the good work and you will be in the healthy catagory before you know it.
  • For every horror story about weight loss surgery there are 100 success stories that you don't hear. You need to decide for yourself if this is your destiny. I did not have Gastric Bypass but had the Gastric Banding done in Aug 2011. I have lost 97# since then. No, it's not the "easy" way out. There are lots of ways to "eat…
  • Don't send him to his room, really punish him and make him go to your room!!
  • This is going to sound really funny, but wearing heels helped mine. When I was first diagnosed I was working in a dry cleaners and wearing flip flops and tennis shoes everyday on concrete. Mornings I could barely walk. Afternoons I felt like my foot was on fire. I changed jobs and my new job was in an office that required…
  • I'm 5'10 and my goal weight is 175#. I don't care what I weigh, I'm much more concerned with fitness and toning. I would be happy with a size 12 or 14, seeing as I started in a size 34 at 380#.
  • Just be glad you have insurance to cover it. I would have happily jumped thru the hoops backwards if I could have gotten my insurance to cover it. I paid out of pocket for it and then it didn't even count toward my deductible. Thank goodness I have a great family who supported me. I call it my "new car body".
  • I have a love/hate relationship with my Spanx (I love the way I look but sometimes hate the way I feel in them). But, I would NEVER give them up. It's all about vanity with me. Don't want everything jiggling when I run up the stairs at the office.
  • Food addiction is the absolute worst! If you are addicted to drugs, alcohol, sex, all that stuff is something you can live without and not miss out too much, but food, you have to face that demon every day, every meal. Good luck and keep working it. It works if you work it.
  • I am like others on this board. So glad I did the surgery (lap band) and just wish I had done it years ago. I started at 380# and this morning I was at 288.3. I missed my initial goal of 100# by end of 1st year (August). But still, I'm 92 pounds down. It's absolutely amazing! I started in a tight size 34 and currently am…
  • I had my lap band surgery in August of 2011 and have gone from a 34 (tight) to a 22/24. I love Goodwill. Also, consignment shops. And, anytime anyone I know runs across a clearance sale they buy me smaller sizes. I just keep everything in a tote and go thru it a couple times a month to swap out sizes. It's like shopping in…
  • I am with you. I am 13 months out and still deal with head hunger and cravings. There have been times I have given in to the head hunger and boy have I paid for it. I try to remember those "wonderful" times of "refunding" what I ate. Don't do it. It's not worth it. Just do the best you can and remember, this is a marathon…
  • My husband was fully on board from the beginning. He has been with me at most of my visits/classes/support group. It's much easier with a supportive spouse/s.o.
  • Hi, I'm from Pinellas Park, FL (just east of Tampa. Currently I live in LaVergne (Nashville) TN.
  • Pulled out a pair of size 24 white jeans thinking "if I can just get them over my hips I'll be happy." Not only did they go over the hips but buttoned with no hassle and I can sit down and breathe in them. And did I mention they are white? I haven't worn white pants in years for the obvious reasons. Woo-Hoo! What a great…
