If I ever asked my wife to iron my t-shirt before I left for the gym I would never need to worry about loosing weight again.

iPhone4 When you add a food to your diary, there is a button sporting a not so great bar code icon that is just to the right of the text search entry are. Push that button and the screen changes to the camera with the outline of the corners of a box in the center. Center that box around the bar code and the bar code will…

I think BMI is fine when used as intended. "Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a person's weight and height. BMI provides a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems." Center for Disease Control and Prevention. If you are…

I like Mahi Mahi but it is LOW fat so I eat Salmon a lot more often.

It sounds like you have done a great job over the last eight weeks eating health and exercising. Respectfully, I would focus on that success, on living a healthy life stile of moderation, and understand that in the long run you body is just a record, on open book that anyone can read, of your choices. You are so young and…

I like fresh ground peanut butter. It is a good source of healthy fats. As you are not a big fan of peanuts, consider trying a fresh ground almond butter which has a more delicate flavor. It is a bit pricey but it is not like you are going to spend a fortune on nut butters if you are watching your caloric intake.

Some years ago, I accepted the reality that I am an ugly man and loosing weight is certainly not going to make much of a difference aesthetically. I have many goals that are focused on health and performance. I want to loose a lot of weight to improve my health because I am diabetic. I have two sons who are in Scouting and…

I know what a kolache is, but what the hell is a NSV?

I pray that I never become so shallow or vain that my body becomes a source of great pride. Not exactly a big risk for me at this time :). *kitten* abound in life. My self worth is not based on what other people think of my body or even what I think of my body. I, and only I, am responsible for how I value myself. *kitten*…

Choose not to eat the mix.

Sugar is a carb and arguable the very worst form of carbs. I eat a lot of low carb snacks such as nuts, olives, and avocados.

Absent all the verbose drama, the solution was to eat less and exercise more. Very inspiring!

Core streath is important to health and help prevent back problems and improve posture. It is a good idea to have a balanced core streath workout where both the abdominal muscles and lower back muscles receive equal attention. Obese people can have great abs and great overall core strength even if they are not so skinny…

My weight fluctuates a lot both between days and within a day. I can weight 4 or 5 pounds more after dinner than I did in the morning. Get on the scale, go drink a big glass of water and get back on the scale and you will have put on an extra pound. It is not a big deal. What is important is maintaining a healthy trend…

I use my scale all the time for portion control. quantitative > qualitative

The only calories I ever get from beverages are from my nightly glass of Cabernet and I don't eat any kind of bars.

I have an old mechanical scale and I weight myself several times to get a feel for the range of values. Normally, this is 2 or 3 pounds. It is not at all sensitive so the "feedback" from the scale can be misleading at times. I have ordered a new digital scale from Amazon that should arrive today. I think it likely that it…

I thank you for your explination although I had to google HCG.

I mix a tablespoon of flax seed into my breakfast a couple times each week, but there is no food that I think should be eaten every day. It is healthier to eat a wide variety of foods. That said, I am a complete hypocrite because I often eat the same foods over and over again for months at a time. Flax seeds are great and…

Calories > Carbs This was recently demonstrated by professor of human nutrition Mark Haub of KSU. He ate an 1800 calorie diet that was mostly Twinkies and other junk food. Not only did he loose a lot of weight, he also saw significant improvements in his lab results. It is healthier to eat the right number of calories of…

This is simply not true. If a person continues to east a huge calorie deficit they will never hit a plateau, nor will the ever put weight back on. Instead, they will eventually die.

BMR can be measured in a clinical environment using indirect calorimetry. This is done by measuring oxygen consumption - VO2, carbon dioxide production - VCO2 and the respiratory exchange ratio - RER. For an accurate measurement, the sympathetic nervous system must also be in a state of rest. A person's BMR will also…

I have been thinking about getting a HRM and I have been thinking about the accuracy issue with estimating calories burned using a HRM. At the office, we have a bike and a treadmill, both of which calculate calories, but I must work a lot harder on the treadmill to get the same numbers as on the bike. The treadmill is just…

Lots of people eat all the "right" or "good" foods and their diet is still unhealthy simply because they eat to much and get fat. The most important factor in a healthy diet is not what you eat, but how much you eat and it is healthier to eat an appropriate caloric intake of junk food than it is to eat an excessive caloric…

I don't think these people are stupid or ignorant, I think they are just mean, but this is not an uncommon behavior and it is expressed in a lot of social situations. Personally, I think it is like the behavior in a pack of wolves where one poor miserable animal, the Omega, is picked on by the rest of the pack. The Omega…

I love nuts, and like Porsche, there is no substitute. I eat them for snacks up at the office all the time. I will measure out 1 oz. servings of walnuts or almonds and put them in individual snack baggies which I take to the office. When my morning snack is not nuts, it is most often an avocado. I have a large cheep spoon…
