  • weekly is a good general rule of thumb; that said, I found it effective to weigh myself daily or nearly so. I found the feedback motivating and I didn't take small changes in either direction too seriously
  • well, plug it into the recipe thing on myfitness pal and see what you get. my guess is a half can of tuna which is about 120 cal, slice of bread about 125, grapes maybe 50 cal...altogether 300 calories which is pretty reasonable by itself.
  • yeah, I found that site too and have compared it to others...it seems pretty accurate or at least consistent with other calorie calculators; even better if you can afford it is a heart rate monitor since that will be very specific to the calories YOU burn doing any particular thing
  • I have the Polar FT7 which I'm very happy with, though it was not cheap (by my standards anyway) at around $105. Polar has less expensive models (see recommendation from other poster above); I would trust their quality, they pretty much invented wireless heart-rate monitoring.
  • I didn't actually double check your numbers but the calculations you show look right. Losing 2lb a week is at the upper limit of what many experts think is a safe rate of weight loss--more than this and you start to burn protein from your muscles. I'd be happy with your current rate of 1.3 lbs/week--that is safe and…
  • Yes it is technically an amphetamine-class drug but it is a legal OTC medication that is safe for most people when used as directed (as a decongestant) and unless you cook it into meth it really doesn't have potential for addiction.
  • I'm a physician. There is no evidence that claritin (or other antihistamines) causes weight loss. Perhaps as another poster suggests this could be due to claritin suppressing appetite, though most antihistamines if anything have the opposite effect. Bottom line, don't believe that claritin is some new weight loss miracle…
  • agree with the above--estimates of exercise calories could be too high; I find there are are wide variations in estimates in online sources for the same activity (e.g., one site says 30 minutes of biking an average of 14mph is 300 cal, another site says the same thing is 450 cal, etc). Plus when you first register this…
  • in moderation, yes--here in Wisconsin when people add creamer to their coffee too often it is half the cup. Just keep it to small amounts, and track the calories here. Remember everything counts.
