  • Just added you! I can totally relate. If the stuff is not in the house, then I can do without no problem. But when it is in the house, which is more often than not due to other family members, then I find myself dipping in here and there to the chips, cookies, etc.. I am really trying to log everything, good or bad, and…
  • I just joined this group today and am also looking for folks in their "Fab 40's" to stay motivated with. I have been on a MFP hiatus for a while (about a year!) and enough is enough... time to get back to business! Add me!
  • I just took the dreaded "self-portrait-in-the-mirror-before-pics" last night. They are on my phone. All I need to do is look at those before I eat this-or-that or am tempted to be lazy! I use my phone for the MapMyWalk app, so it's always with me. (And, of course, the MFP app!)
  • Me! I am 5'4" and currently at 154. I am aiming for about the 145 range, but when (if!) I get there I will see how I feel/look.. so for now, just trying to lose about 10 pounds. :-)
  • Hi! I am also in the Boston area. I work at one of the colleges near Fenway. I absolutely love this city and the highlight of my days are my lunchtime walks! Feel free to add me, too! :)
  • I use the 3lb and 5lb kettlebells that came with Kathy Smith's Kettlebell Solution workout DVD set. The workout is so fun! But I also use a HRM to track my calories burned during the workout. Some people use the "general circuit training" entry to log these types of workouts.
  • I use the app for MapMyWalk (Android). Tracks your route while you walk, distance, and speed. I love it! It's a great website.
  • You can view your calorie burn during your workout with the FT4. You just push the top right button to scroll thru the screens. I do this and switch back and forth occasionally to view my current HR and my calories burned. It's easy and not a hassle. :)
  • I also just recently got a Polar FT4. Amazon.com, about $60, free shipping. i ordered the women's size watch with the smaller chest strap. All fits great. Super easy to set up and use right out of the box. I am so glad I got it!
  • I just recently bought myself the Polar FT4 from amazon.com for about $60. I read so many reviews about HRM's here on MFP, and that was one that kept popping up the most. I've used a couple of times so far and am really loving it!!
  • I eat carrot sticks with my hummus.. also, the Pretzel Crisps are really good with it. This week I have them in the Everything flavor with original hummus. Yum!

  • No diet here! I have no desire to cut anything "out". I have totally managed to cut "back" on things that aren't so good for me. But I still have what I want (chocolate, wine, pizza, etc.) I just manage it better now!
  • Just remember, you are doing this for YOU... not for anyone else! Keep up the good work!
  • It's definitely a good workout, and I like that it's a full body workout in just 20 minutes. Personally though, I hate all the jumping jacks. It's also not really all that exciting to do it every day (which I don't) but for me it's a good one to mix in with other workouts that I do.
  • I've thought about cutting out for a while, like trying to do a one-month challenge. But just can't seem to do it. I have cut back considerably though. I no longer have wine every single day. But when I do have it, it goes in my diary along with everything else. :drinker: Cheers!
  • I am curious about this, too. I just ordered a Polar FT4 HRM to help with my workouts. I used the formula in the link you posted and got a range of 109-127, which seems really low. I also just found this at the Mayo site and the range I get there is much different (127-154):…
  • I've learned: that i am not on a diet that I can still eat/drink what I want that I can be completely satisfied on 1400 calories per day (who knows how many I was consuming before MFP!)
  • Check out the used fitness DVD's at www.half.com. Super cheap (and no bidding!) I recently tried the Crunch Boot Camp dvd and really liked it. Very high energy and fast-paced. The only equipment needed is some hand weights, if you choose to use them. It's a great 30-min workout that combines lots of cardio and strength.
  • I keep a 32oz bottle on my desk at work and fill it up at least twice during the workday. I just constantly sip from it, especially when it's right there in front of me. And it's bright red! Sometime I will add a Propel Zero or a Crystal Light packet, or slices of lemon. I can drink flavored water much more easily. And I…
  • I just did this... thanks for the tip!!
  • I'm an 80's and 90's girl.. two of my faves from my playlist are C+C Music Factory (Gonna Make You Sweat) and some good ol' Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch (Good Vibrations) Keeps me going!!
  • Turning 40 this summer on July 6! I'm tired of being tired and pudgy! Working on eating better and exercising more. I do not want to look the same way I did on my birthday last summer!
  • What are some examples or ideas you have?
  • I live in the MetroWest area...work in Boston though! :drinker:
  • Denis Leary in The Ref: "Your husband ain't dead, lady, he's hiding!" Cracks me up every time!
  • Fantastic! Congratulations!! I am also 5'4"...39 (turning 40 this summer!). I got serious on MFP in January 2012 and started at 150. I have weighed more than that in the past and have done WW in the past, but 150 is still too much for me. My goal is to be around 137-ish, but moreso just to eat healthier and more…

  • I did Crunch Boot Camp the other day on DVD at home. It was crazy fun cardio and some hand weights mixed in too. I checked it out from my library just to try but you can also get it on Netflix. It was fun!
  • I am 5' 4" and currently at 145. I started MFP (seriously) in January at 150. I think my goal is around 137-ish. We'll see how I feel/look when i get there! I'm actually ok with my weight right now so even if i maintain or just lose about 5 more, my real goal is to just be more fit and toned. :drinker:
  • I get in about 30 minutes of walking a day for my daily commute. I don't log it as exercise. Even though I walk at a brisk pace and also with a backpack (though not 10 lbs!), and I get my heart rate up, I just don't count it as exercise because it's something I do every single day. I walk at lunch time or go to the gym and…
