  • Cycling is a great way to workout, you just have to make sure you are riding hard and not casually puttering along if you want to get the most benefit out of it.
  • When I was first starting to track calories I would have. Right now I am working on a little bit of clean up so I don't worry about the small things so much.
  • All I did was focus on my caloric intake. I would occasionally try to have more protein, but didn't go out of my way.
  • I really started getting into cycling last year. I was riding on a $200 mountain bike (mostly road riding) and I pretty much took that as far as it could go. I *really* enjoyed cruising past people on their more expensive road bikes. I don't think they much liked being beat by a mountain bike out on the road. I had to…
  • I have a Polar FT7 with chest strap. I love it and use it for every workout. I think I paid around $110 for it, but don't recall. I remember being slightly apprehensive about spending the money at first, but it has definitely been worth it.
  • I'd say it's possible (I lost 33 pounds in about 3 months) but at 2 lbs/wk that doesn't leave you much room for plateaus (which you will have). Don't let yourself get hung up on some arbitrary deadline; you didn't gain all your weight at once and you won't lose it overnight. Just stick with your plan and celebrate each…
  • Awesome! Congrats! Personally, I'm not a fan of running, but I applaud you. If you end up finding that running is too high impact for you (I know it always hurt my knees and shins) you should consider the elliptical or riding a bike. Everytime I'd try to run I'd eventually fall out of my routine, biking was the answer and…
  • I think you should workout in whatever way is most fun for you: walking/running, biking, elliptical. Keep very close track of your calories in and watch your salt intake. There will always be some fluctuation, don't let it get you down!
  • Thanks! I started on here just to try it out too. Just stick with it and before you know it you will be 10 lbs down and wonder where the time went. After that it's all about maintaining what you've already done and the rest will come more easily.
  • Getting healthy is all that matters. Keep it up, and you'll be there before you know it!
  • I should probably add some more stats. I went from a 36.5 inch waist to 31 inches... 5.5 inches!! My neck went from 15.5 inches to 14.25.
  • Very noticeable change. Congrats!

  • According to Runner's World: The "fat-burning zone" lies between 50 and 70 percent of your maximum heart rate. When you exercise at this low intensity, your body draws energy from fat. As your heart rate goes up, more energy comes from carbs. So it seems logical that to lose fat you should keep your heart rate low, says…
  • I really believe that it all comes down to calories in vs. calories out. If you burn more than you consume you will lose weight. If you like swimming then you should swim; however, you should probably mix up your training. I don't think you want all your days to be the same. Do short sprints some days, do some pyramid…
  • Congrats all! I weighed myself today and... 5 days in, 3.2 lbs lost. :)
