I find this endlessly fascinating...how each woman's experience is different. This is true for puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, menopause... I suffered through severe, debilitating, puke my guts up, stay home from school cramps every single month from the first day of my period at age 11. Discovering Naproxin…

If carbs were bad, they wouldn't be so carb-o-licious.

@MostlyWater - life IS good! :) @ethelsmommy - Yeah, my husband's look is more "horrified". Perhaps he'll work his way up to "faraway"... once he accepts that this is really happening!

@lalalacroix - I went through similar. 4 months w/o a period, then start back up again for several months. This happened a few times over the course of 3 years. But this time I think it's going to stick! Fortunately for me, I've yet to have any significant hot flashes. But I can be moody AF at times :). It is interesting…

Aw, sending you good vibes, @tcunbeliever. Hormones can be such a *kitten*!

I'm 5'2 as well. For what it's worth, it took me ~5 months to go from 128 to 114. That's a bit over 1/2 lb per week, which is considered a safe rate of loss.

Welcome to over 40! I'm over 50 and did not find it harder to lose weight in my 50s. My tools: 1) using a food scale for everything 2) daily weighing 3) my fitbit - helped me understand my total daily energy burn and how moving more throughout the day is way more impactful than a short burst of intentional exercise in my…

Nice!

Stretchy pants. Makes it easier to deny the weight creep.

How long in maintenance: 2.5 years Goal maintenance range: under 115 Current weight: 117-118 Current goal: 112-113 Recent success: I started lifting again! Also, i tried on my bathing suit - and I'm OK with how I look in it. I was happily maintaining @ 113 for a couple of years (my ultimate goal is to stay under 115).…

why?

Took me about 9 months. I'm 5'2, went from 134 to 112.

OOPS. Sorry. My math brain wasn't working!

This does not make sense. If your goal is 1200, and you burn 158 in exercise, you should eat 1358 calories (1200+158) for the day.

Happy new year! My weight is up maybe .5 pound since before Thanksgiving. All in all, I'm pleased. - It's well within my normal daily weight fluctuations. - I relaxed my eating & drinking over the Christmas week (didn't weigh myself or log for a few days while visiting relatives). - I just started lifting again after a…

I love this! It's not cheating, it's a choice. You can choose to eat at a deficit, at maintenance, or above maintenance. Whatever you choose, accept it and move on. It's the overall trend over time that determines if you lose, maintain or gain.

I take a 2 week vacation every year. I don't log, but I do stay mindful about what I am eating. For me, vacation means lots of walking, a little bit more "fun food" than I normally eat, and extra beer/wine. We stay in a beach house, buy our groceries, and rarely eat at restaurants, so it's fairly easy to control what I…

I also use flavored creamer in my coffee. I just take the hit, calorie-wise. It's worth it to me. There are days I've clocked in over 200 calories on creamer alone. I did just find a sugar-free flavored creamer I enjoy, so that cuts down on the calories. I also drink diet coke if I don't want the creamer calories. (Saves…

I don't want to regain the weight I lost. I don't view it as fear of regaining (passive), as much as determination to not regain (active). Therefore, I take an active role in my maintenance. I choose to continue to weigh myself and track my food daily, just like I did while I was losing. I take breaks for vacations and…

I like machine cappuccinos and lattes.

Blasphemy! :)

Often: - Coffee with flavored creamer - Diet soda - Wine Occasional: - Beer (IPA usually) - Water (transitioning to the "often" column)

I agree completely! I don't use a weight trending app, but I do something similar with excel spreadsheets. Another game changer for me was using an activity tracker (FitBit in my case). Having as much data as possible is so helpful in looking at the big picture.

All good input, thank you. Once again, I feel fortunate that I'm not experiencing any of the fatigue or other discomforts that many hypothyroid people experience. I've actually increased my daily step count average from 15K to 17K over the past few months, and don't feel like my energy or appetite has been negatively…

@whoami67, Thanks for your reply. I agree, people respond differently to thyroid issues. Even when I was severely hyper, I really had no noticeable symptoms, other than I could eat a little more than usual and not gain. I did not lose tons of weight or feel any other ill effects. (that's not to say it wasn't hard on my…

Astounding in what way?

I'm 5'2 ish, 53 yrs old. Now I feel great if I'm under 115. I'm sitting at ~118 now, and am feeling rather chunky. 10 years ago, anything under 125 was good. 20 years ago, under 130 felt good, most likely due to youth & higher LBM. I suppose this is a good argument in favor of weight training :) . Which reminds me... I…
