welcome jmzz1! - if you look through the other topics, you'll find some recommendations like ihanuman, youtube, doyogawithme, and yogaglo

I'm always hungry after a good yoga session as well (without any vinyasa even  ), but I thought I would try just doing those deep twists one week before eating dinner and to see what would happen.

Never had that problem, but can you bike, swim, or walk hills? You could always do that as your cardio.

I think your best bet is yin yoga. I've never done it, but my understanding is that it is mostly stretching and relaxation. Also, anything that says "gentle" or "restorative" would be appropriate. I wouldn't count it as part of a calorie burn though. btw, I don't think this group is very active, so you might not get that…

This. I've never been to a class where people weren't supportive and friendly.
-
Make your down dogs longer, that should help.
-
Start with one pose, then the next, and go from there.
-
So, did the teacher tell you what to do or not? Did you find that helpful/unhelpful?
-
Oh, to answer your question - do what you enjoy doing, you're more likely to stick with it.

Ha, I don't have to lift. Thanks.

A friend of mine has 7 goal poses for the next 2 years - so she has one to work on every day of the week. I'm considering adding more to my list, although I don't always want to work on them. The main trick to getting crow pose: look forward, not down. Good luck.

What type of yoga do you practice? You said you were interested in your form, so I thought I'd ask. I've practiced for 13 years. About 6 years ago, would occasionally practice at home - either to a video or on my own - just here and there - I would go to a class or two a week - and that was my yoga practice. I started…

For "box splits": take your legs as wide apart as you can, with your buttocks on the floor - keep your legs straight and your thighs pressing into the floor. You can also turn this around: press your buttocks into the wall and take your legs apart - if you have a really long strap and you can strap your feet, so there is…

Generally "yoga butt" refers to a hamstring pull. If you're recovering in two weeks, you must be doing something well. Some hamstring pulls take 6 months.

If you do a search on this site, you'll find a lot of different suggestions. I would check you library and see what they have.

I like to tell people I'm a "kept woman" I do have more time than most people - I teach 2-3 classes a week and work only part-time. On the other hand, I don't watch any tv, which is how many people spend their evenings. I think the combination gives me time to practice 90 minutes a day and do an hour of cardio or…

Once a week is wonderful. Ask the teacher you like what dvd's they would recommend.

Welcome! Glad you're here.

Even as a yoga teacher, I would recommend she go to a physical therapist first. All videos are out, unless ok'd by the PT. After she gets checked out, then she could find an experienced yoga teacher in her area who could help with her hip pain.

Welcome, we're glad you're here. I think anyone can do yoga, no matter what is going on with their body. Check out my fellow teacher Abby: http://www.heartfeltyoga.com/heavyweight_yoga.htm

If you do a search on this site for "yoga dvd" you'll find plenty of opinions. You could try your library as well

There are stretches for the ankles. 1. You can sit on your feet in vajrasana - basically kneeling with the feet under the buttocks, 2. then turn your toes under and stretch the backs of your feet, this also stretches the back of the ankle 3. turn your toes toward each other and sit in the saddle of your foot, switch the…

Right now you can do up-dogs and camels (your pelvis doesn't press into the floor). Once your stomach starts to stretch, the band of tissue across your abdomen can be torn by doing strong backbends. You would avoid strong twists because they put pressure on the abdomen - generally open twist, like Marichyasana 1, upright,…

You could tell them your 5 weeks, but that you aren't announcing it right now - so they shouldn't let everyone know. In my system of yoga, you can still do inversions. Poses that you should avoid: cross the body twists, abs, and belly down backbends - if at all possible. At this early you could just do them to the minimal…

When do your ankles hurt? In standing poses? Seated poses? Which ones? Ankles can be tight just like any other area of the body. Some poses, like Virabhadrasana 1 (Warrior 1) can be difficult for those with tight ankles.

I got this one because it fits my hatchback but would also fit any other car: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QJ8BV0/ref=oh_details_o04_s02_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Well done! That's great progress in only 2 years.

Just take a look at BKS Iyengar. Just means you can take deeper breaths - that or you do a lot of backbends. I think there's a huge difference, btw. Great job.

Rodney Yee is enjoyable.

I have a 6x a week practice. I also do some sort of cardio everyday, so I can't really answer if you can do yoga alone. I would think so as long as your diet was good.
