lcrablik - the padmasana workshop sounds like something John Schumacher would do - who was it? thanks rengel26

Stick with it, it will get better. Might want to try a different kind of yoga and see how that feels.

Never done that, but I think it is just a form of Hatha yoga. I would put them under that listing.

You're welcome

Nice Carl  I do a lot of yoga, by most people's standards. What do I get out of it? Whatever I put into it. Some people want to sweat and burn calories, some people want to stretch and relax, some want to build strength, others want to meditate. You can do all of these, but you really need to set aside ample time.

Is there another class you could go to at your gym? Maybe try a different instructor? Or maybe go to a few classes outside your gym? Most studios offer the first class for free, so you could see what is out there. Rodney Yee has videos that range from beginner to advanced. But I don't think one video or another will get…

I think you would have to figure this out for yourself. I've never done body balance, so I can't really say. I would try some yoga classes and see what you think.

Here are some tips from my friend Christina: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGNK0q8nFJc Here are some more : try pushing up from a bolster or two - some people need just help getting off the ground - you can also try from a chair: for the first video, place your hands on the chair like she has and push up that way:…

I would start by talking to people before/after class. I wouldn't direct my attention at anyone in particular at first. You can always talk about yoga - make that part easy. It might naturally evolve after that. Some friends of mine met at a yoga workshop (they are now married). I would think women who are serious about…

There is a yoga group you could join or find others interested in joining your challenge. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1484-generic-yoga-group I already do yoga 6x a week, but I'm always looking for more yoga friends.

Which poses are you looking for? If you want to take yoga more seriously, then you need to find a teacher. Someone you like, someone you respect. Really good teachers teach for a living, it will cost you to attend their classes. Occasionally you'll find free or give what you will classes, usually taught by new teachers…

Can't give you all three. A manduka will last forever and is a good thickness without being cushiony: http://www.amazon.com/Manduka-Black-71-Inch-Yoga-Pilates/dp/B0000DZFXZ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1363789384&sr=8-3&keywords=manduka but it's not cheap. Any cheaper thick mat will either be too cushiony for down dog and other…

Always something to work on.

Chances are you are falling toward the outside of your foot (most people do). Next time your in a balance pose, pay attention to your foot - which side of the foot has more pressure, the inside or the outside, the front of the foot or the heel? Try to imagine 4 points of the foot - base of the big toe, base of the little…

Disclaimer: I've never done hot yoga with any regularity. I've tried it, didn't like it. Some people swear by it. Any movement will help you lose weight. Any improvement in diet will help you lose weight. That said, yoga doesn't burn that many calories. If you're goal is to burn calories, keep going to the gym: run, swim,…

I'm enjoying everyone's stories, keep them coming.

I love my manduka. It's really heavy but nearly indestructible. I'm sure they have these in the UK as they are made in Germany. If you go to a class where you are frequently folding up your mat for different poses, a manduka won't work. For that, I like the cheap plastic ones.

I've done both. I prefer Iyengar, but that doesn't mean you will. I would try them both if you can. If you want to move quickly in a possibly heated (90 degrees is the norm) room with minimal alignment, try Ashtanga. If you want to know the how and why of a pose, moving slowly, in a non-heated room, try Iyengar.

Have you tried the gym? Do you like it? Are there other classes you'll take there? Can you try it for one week or one month to make sure? I would also try a couple yoga classes at local studios. Most of the time, you can take the first class for free. Try a couple and see what you like. For me, I'm more likely to go to a…

Just saw this. What pose do you like? Pick one pose you like and do it everyday. Then if you feel you want to do another pose, do that one next. After a couple of weeks/months of adding one pose at a time, think about a pose you avoid and add that one in. First find a practice that you like, then find a practice that you…

I agree with this. The increased temperature does make your body more flexible, and it is easier to go further with less awareness. As a fellow Texan that doesn't appreciate the heated room yoga, I don't the appeal, especially of Bikram (more because of Mr. Bikram than the style of yoga) You've tried Ashtanga and Bapiste -…

There are two groups here you might be interested in. btw, I meant no disrespect about rest days, I was just curious. I don't think I could do everyday, there are days life gets in the way.

In the back of "Light on Yoga" there are some sequences, but if you are unclear on some of the poses you might try "Yoga the Iyengar Way" - it has color photos and more of them, but fewer poses. There are sequences in the back of that book as well. You can also experiment, how does it feel to do down dog then forward fold…

I practice at studios and at home. I have to keep a log of my sequences for the next 30 days as part of my yoga homework. That's what I'm avoiding doing now  A lot of my sequences are things I'm working on during the classes I teach. I'll write down a sequence, try it out on myself, make any changes, then teach it. I…

You might want to repost this in the yoga group: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1484-generic-yoga-group So are you not taking rest days? Most styles have one rest day a week.

There's an entire group of us, open to all: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1484-generic-yoga-group

All different times. I teach twice a week at 10 am, so those days I usually practice in the mid afternoon. The classes I go to are either at noon or mid/late afternoon. The other days I go back and forth. If I'm tired or cold in the morning, I'll get on the treadmill, then do an early evening practice when I get home from…
