  • If you message me your city, I could probably find a few classes for you to go to. You could also check your local library and see what videos they have - if you wish to go that route.
  • Congrats! As long as your teacher knows, I think you can do power/ashtanga without the heat. You might want to check with more than one teacher and see what modifications they offer. My teacher summed it up: don't squish junior - in other words, don't do any poses that would put pressure on you lower abdomen. I've never…
  • Cute. I have a touch of OCD
  • Thanks. I'm worried the air will smell like smoke and we won't want to do any hiking.
  • This makes me sad. Be safe! I can't believe pets aren't allowed - there's got to be a place people can take them! :frown: We've been planning a trip to Yosemite for 6 months. We are supposed to be there a week from Thursday. I'm not sure we should go now.
  • I do them both the same day. Usually 90+ min of yoga and 30-60 min cardio. I don't do strength training. If I'm doing a hard yoga session, than I like to do that first, but if it's an easy session, I do that after - or if I'm going to class, then it's obviously whenever class is. I separate them out: one in the morning and…
  • There's a lot of us into yoga, just have to know where to find us: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1484-generic-yoga-group I think you should go to a couple of classes first. Most studios offer the first class free. You could try a couple classes and see what you think. When you find one you like, see if you can…
  • Might want to post this on the yoga groups: the big one: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1484-generic-yoga-group another one: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/2468-have-some-yoga-with-that I pretty much do yoga everyday anyway - usually 10-14 hours a week, but will gladly join.
  • I wouldn't think so.
  • I'm sure you could go to the hot yoga class without a problem. Once you go to the basics class, you'll have an idea about how yoga feels for your body and what you are able to do.
  • I've never done yoga zone, so I don't know. Most yoga does not burn that many calories, no matter how difficult it feels at the time. Some people add their own numbers. I just use what mfp has - that way when I do a very difficult sequence it makes up for the easier sequences.
  • Sure it can help, but you would need to find a very experienced teacher - I would suggest an Iyengar certified teacher - to help you out. Mostly what you would have to do it pay attention to your alignment. How moving different muscles in your legs would help/hinder your knocked knees.
  • I really think this a question for your doctor.
  • There's a yoga group full of enthusiasts open to all: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1484-generic-yoga-group
  • Check out the library - they should have some videos. There are some podcasts out there as well.
  • I noticed one of your aspirations is to be a yoga teacher. I know you said that classes are not an option at this time - none at all? Can you not attend one a month or one a week? I think an interesting thing to do would be to attend a class, then try to repeat that class the next day at home. Notice what other poses you…
  • What about revolved triangle? Check out this article: http://www.yogajournal.com/practice/2774
  • I think there is a difference between DDP and ultimate yogi. Travis Elliot is a yoga teacher by training - he does workshops, travels, etc.. DDP is taught by a wrestler by training. I've never tried the ultimate yogi, but given the choice between the two or three if you include P90X, Ultimate yogi is the most likely to…
  • There are a lot of different groups on mfp Here's one for yoga: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1484-generic-yoga-group I'm sure there are meditation ones as well.
  • So many. I've road on the hood of a car and fell off on a turn - and other normal teenager stuff. My brother did the best one I've ever heard of - he picked up two hitchhikers and was driving down a four lane road. He turned around to them and said "prepare to die", then pulled into the on-coming traffic lane around a car…
  • Men who do yoga are hot - and not because they look like Rodney Yee - rather because they are open minded enough to try it in the first place. Men who are there to look at women are creepy.
  • The person with their feet on the down dog back is doing a half handstand - you can line up a bunch of people in an acrobatic type yoga pose.
  • I agree with workoutgrl. Go try a couple of classes and see what you think. Most studios offer the first class free, so you can try a bunch of different types of yoga. You might find one you like. The most effective tools for losing weight are the ones that you can keep doing for your lifetime. If you find a yoga class you…

  • Short answer: as far as calorie burn, they are probably the same. You're not going to burn significantly more calories because the room is heated - just like you wouldn't burn that many more calories if you went for a walk when it was 95 degrees outside. It would feel difficult, sure, but the calorie burn isn't that…
  • There's a yoga group here and quite a few members do vinyasa yoga: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/1484-generic-yoga-group Come join.
  • Absolutely. There are many different styles.
  • So the two arguments I see on here for eating meat are: 1. it taste good 2. as omnivores, we can eat meat I could say the same thing about cake. To the original poster, what do you hope to accomplish here? There are the veggies that are going to say eating meat is bad, and refer to their sources, then there are the meat…
