  • A facial or mani/pedi...ahhh!
  • I detach mine to rinse in the shower as well--I've used baby shampoo to hand wash too. Every couple of weeks or so I wash mine in the machine with cold water on the gentle cycle (with other delicates). The transmitter and watch will either be one of two places (1) right on my treadmill so I know exactly where to find them…
  • I agree with catniss. I week is pretty long when you aren't seeing/feeling any improvement.
  • I moisten mine before each use and hand wash or use the gentle cycle when my readings start to get off. My rates seem to stay pretty consistant with the amount of effort I put in. I agree that HRM's aren't always 100% accurate, however, I think the chest strap monitors are more accurate than the machines and when being…
  • I don't consider the HRM on the machines very accurate. Mine was always all over the place (if it read it at all). I did purchase a Polar FT7 which I love. I run and/or do some form of cardio & weights 6 days a week. Especially when I run, my heart rate is around 90% or above...during races it can go above 100%. I was…
  • First off...you are WAY TOO HARD on yourself!! Second, if someone values you soley for your appearance than it isn't love. If you plan on changing yourself to try and fit into some ideal that you think someone else wants then it'll never work. You need to take on this lifestyle change, journey or whatever you want to call…
  • 400 calories OVER a small breakfast...so say a small breakfast is roughly 200 calories you would then be eating 600 calories in one meal. I don't know...maybe I'm missing the point but I kind of say duh! One could easily eat 600 cals or more when grabbing breakfast at a restaurant (fast food or otherwise). When I think of…
  • I'm in a bit of a funk myself. I think some of mine is the cold winter weather and I feel confined to the house. I know there are tons of winter sports but they really aren't my bag...I'm a cocoa by the fire kind of gal. The most important thing I've done is not stop trying each day. I am a stay at home mom and I can…
  • Another vote for walking. If you have a treadmill maybe you can up the incline a little if you feel you need it. I can sometimes do my regular workouts if it is just a little cold and I do actually feel better after. I just recently got over a sinus infection and it just wiped me out! I ended up taking a day off and just…
  • I also like to get out and shovel snow too. I want to say that I've read somewhere that drinking really cold water gives a little boost as well since your body has to work a little harder to warm up the insides...not sure if it is true but I'd be much more willing to grab an ice water than head outside on a cold and snowy…
  • This sounds like a great treat when I'm craving something sweet! I'll have to look for the peanut butter coffee flavoring...haven't seen that before.
  • This is what I do too. If I can't get something out of my mind for days it'll be worth it for me but the 'budget' idea totally gets me past some of the impulse moments.
  • I agree with tada6970...you'll be disappointed. I've found once I really committed to this when I 'cheat' without planning ahead (ie a special night so an extra workout etc) I am disappointed and the splurge item ends up not tasting all that great! If I plan out a treat and make sure it doesn't put me over it tastes so…
  • My pediatrician suggested Cream of Wheat because it is fairly high in iron. We've added that into our breakfast menu and it is a nice switch from oatmeal. It (like oatmeal) is perfect with berries or bananas.
  • Haven't seen this but have seen a 'crystal light' slurpee at 7-11.
  • First off, congrats on making the effort to get moving. Remember that while the scale might not move as fast as we'd like the inside of our bodies is also reaping the benefits of a healthier lifestyle...these things we can't see. Are you eating your excercise calories? I know it works different for everyone, for me…
  • Welcome and happy holidays to you too. Remember not to be too hard on yourself. The lifestyle that got most of us to an unhealthy point didn't happen overnight so it'll take some time to get back on track. You'll have good days and bad days but remember you are worth the effort and keep trying. Good luck!
  • Sorry you're feeling so crappy...no fun! I'm not sure about the combo...maybe you could call your local pharmacy to check for sure. Feel better.
  • Just picked up a Jillian Micheals 6 week ab dvd. It has 2 workouts (both 25 minutes). Tons of core stuff without just doing crunches (which hurt my back anyway--I had back surgery). I love the cardio mixed through out. Just started but really happy.
  • Portion control is HUGE for me. As I've gotten further in this I do find there are some foods I tend not to eat just because they aren't worth it. For example, a donut or muffin. Those that I would normally order were usually 400+ calories and either I was still hungry or hungry again shortly after. It's helped me not to…
  • I do a slow cooker venison soup. I don't really measure out (use more or less depending on how many eating). I take roughly 1 lb of venison and cube it. I brown it in 1 tablespoon olive oil and toss it in slow cooker. I either use one 12-16oz bag frozen soup veggies (in freezer section already cut up bite size) or whatever…
  • Don't know about anyone else but I find that EVERYONE is rather crabby when I haven't gotten my rest  It is great that you are willing to be there for support but maybe you can find another way while still taking care of you...coffee runs, making sure he has some things to keep him up and occupied...
  • I read somewhere that canola oil has many of the same health benefits of olive oil and is an economical alternative. I use it (and/or olive oil for just about everything).
  • www.kraftfoods.com has some good recipes with nutrition info and a healthy living section. I've found some good things there.
  • How many miles on the shoes? Could be you are ready for a new pair??
  • I was never a runner or very athletic for that matter. A friend of mine turned me on to it and MFP (thanks Lori). I started in about March of this year lost 20lbs and finished several 5K events (I try to shoot for one a month). I didn't do the couch to 5K when I started and it was ALL uphill! About 4 weeks ago I started…
  • GREAT JOB!!! I'm doing the Couch to 10k program right now and really like it! I'm thinking of trying an 8k somewhere in the middle. I don't know if I have the motivation for the 10k during the winter in the Northeast  Keep up the good work!
  • If I don't mine will lose signal. I usually run it quickly under a faucet and then wipe the excess with a towel (so just the sensor part is wet). It can be a little chilly but in a few minutes it's good. Maybe you can put it on a few minutes before you head out so it is already up to your body temp.
  • Very well said!
  • Thanks for the insight. I do understand my HRM gives an estimate and really take it as such. I was trying to be a little more tongue in cheek...which perhaps didn't come across. The bottom line for me is a I am running faster, feeling stronger and willing to take on challenges I never would have before. When I started here…
