Congratulations on deciding to make these changes and improve yourself and your life! Focus on positive thinking and just keep on doing daily exercise and eating right and you will reach your goal. It will take a while, so just believe in yourself and keep going. Good luck! :)

I practice complete avoidance. No bread, pastries, cookies or anything made with white flour, pasta, potatoes or rice. No sugar. Only low glycemic index vegetables. An occasional treat is eating a limited amount of low glycemic index fruits. I occasionally drink diet root beer for a sweet-tooth fix. If I cheat and have…

Recipe for deviled eggs with hummus please!!! Are we talking mix the yolks with hummus, or replace the yolk with hummus?

Wow, great job! You look great and I bet you feel awesome!

It is hard to fit in a workout during the day when you work all day and are tired and drained afterwards, not to mention hungry for dinner! I have committed to getting up earlier and working out for 30-45 minutes before work. I feel really good all day when I start the day with a workout and am less likely to be tempted by…

I set smaller goals. When I started I had 94 pounds to lose. I focused on 10 pound increments and celebrated every single pound loss. I am now closing in on the first "major" mini goal of reaching "Onederland". It didn't happen as quickly as I'd like (it's been 6 months) but I'm averaging around 5 pounds a month. I still…

Do you have digital cable television? On my Comcast digital television OnDemand (I'm in CT) there is a fitness channel that has a bunch of different of workout videos. There are quite a few varieties (including bellydance!). The few I have checked out are 30 minutes or less. There are even a couple by Jillian Michaels.…

Hi! There is absolutely no reason to feel alone on MFP!! All you have to do is post a "help I need more friends" topic and there you go! I'm sending you a request... partly because you admit to being a sci-fi geek, lol.

You're doing great! Keep your eyes on the prize and stay committed! If you falter do not despair, pick yourself up and keep moving along!

I thought Sundown was downhill skiing... I will check them out for cross-country, thanks!

This is all good stuff too! Adding berries and natural sweetener to plain Greek yogurt is a great idea!

I see what you mean about saving your calories for later, but you should eat more in the morning! A great breakfast has protein and fiber to keep you fuller longer. Two eggs scrambled with broccoli and a little cheese (low-fat if you must) fits the bill. Or, a good cereal is quick and easy: Kashi GOLean, 1 Cup = 140 Cal,…

I have some that requested me and some I requested. Of the ones I requested it was because they had similar goals to me or seemed to be very motivational or funny or both. I don't turn down requests because I feel like the more the merrier. I could actually use a few more friends who are active since a handful (of the few…

I get my daily fiber from the many vegetables I eat and from muffins made from flax seed meal (Atkins MIM). I count net carbs which is the carb count of the foods (veggies, nuts, flax) minus the fiber content. The occasional times I eat grains they are usually whole grains (not white flour) and only a small amount. If you…

I'm also 5' 3" (3 and a half really). My goal weight is 140, which is what I weighed in high school and wore mostly size 8/10 because that's what fit my hips. This is a healthy weight for me being large framed and muscular/athletic build. I used a chart I found online to double check and it confirmed my goal weight is…

That depends on what results you are looking for... If your goal is for it to be smaller you must do some type of cardio to burn fat. If your goal is to firm and tone you need at the very least to do crunches. My goal for my stomach is to lose the fat and also firm and tone. I've been doing crunches almost daily for 4…

You're doing it, way to go! Keep up the good work!

If you are planning to visit Pennsylvania check out Mount Hope Estate & Winery. It is located 15 miles north of Lancaster, PA and 13 miles east of Hershey. It is home to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Fair (August-October), but that is only a small part of events they have there. They host outdoor festivals from spring…

Because I have a chronic hip issue and a bad knee I use an elliptical for cardio over a treadmill or stairmaster because there is no impact. I feel like I get a great workout from it... I use my core muscles to keep my balance rather than holding onto the rails. When I feel like I need more challenge I increase the…

Just to help you out: Even though you're and your sound the same, they mean two very different things. You're is actually a contraction of "you are," as in "You're cute." Contractions like this are especially common in spoken English. Your is a possessive adjective. It describes a noun by telling us to whom it belongs, as…

Great start! Be proud of yourself and keep up the good work!

I know how you feel! I don't allow cake and other sugary/bread type things in the house... if I did I would eat all of it... at once probably (serious addiction issues). But, sometimes when eating out I will indulge. If I only eat a few bites I'm okay so when I want to indulge I get my boyfriend to share a dessert with me…

I count calories as well as carbs but don't worry if I go over the calories (I usually don't). I changed my daily goal from 1200 to 1400 so I would keep seeing the phrase "under her calorie goal" when I finish each day... it just makes me feel good to see it. I don't see how I could eat much more than 1500 or 1600 calories…

Hi CT MFP Peeps! I currently live in New Britain (hate the city, but I live right next to CCSU, so I walk their campus!). Does anyone know of a place to go cross-country skiing within 30-45 minutes of Hartford? Hopefully not expensive as well! :)

I was bad for 2 weeks and gained 2 pounds. Time to get back on track so I'm doing 2 weeks of induction starting today AND I am upping my exercise too! It would be very nice to lose several pounds before Christmas and all those damn photos that inevitably get taken!

Hi, I'm Jenna and was diagnosed with hypoglycemia way back in high school. I control it by eating small amounts every 3 to 4 hours. I believe a contributing factor to my weight gain was rationalizing eating often to not suffer from the hypoglycemia symptoms. For years I ate way too many unhealthy things in the…

Hi Northeast MFP people! I'm Jenna, I live in the central CT area and I don't run... unless I'm being chased. I love the Northeast but have been suffering from "I Hate Winter" for several years. This year I vow to try to change that. I now have a remote starter in my car (yay!) and I plan to buy proper warm/dry outerwear.…

Finally got a vist from the Whoosh fairy!! :drinker: 4 pounds down! I was getting pretty discouraged seeing no loss for over 3 weeks. Next Friday is measurements and I hope to see some progress there as well...

Thanks for the tips on finding Shiritaki noodles! I didn't think of looking at Asian markets, I will look for one locally before ordering online. I don't have Albertson's or Safeway in Connecticut (and I miss them from when I lived in other states!) but I will check Walmart! Thanks again!

I agree with prettypixidaisy... low carb is really a way of life, not a diet. The people who lose weight eating a low carb lifestyle typically have bodies that are insulin resistant. To learn about how eating processed carbs affects your blood sugar and how/why low carb eating works you should get the New Atkins for a New…
