  • Bump to read later, good stuff! Great job, you look great!
  • I think a lot of us have this problem to some extent. The answer is it's all about how bad you really want to reach your goal. There are always times when you will be faced with choices and have to decide to satisfy the I-want-it-right-now or just say no to whatever the temptation is. You have to believe denying yourself…
  • Good for you! You should be proud of yourself, that's almost 2 pounds per week which is just right. Keep up the hard work and healthy eating!
  • It's really impossible to know if you are doing something wrong without seeing you in action. Proper form is very important to get the full effect of the exercise and to avoid injury. My first advice is to go to the gym and ask someone to watch you perform your moves and tell you if you are doing it wrong. If you don't…
  • Thanks so much for this post. I've literally copied the entire thread into a Word document so I can re-read it frequently. I've had a problem with emotional eating for a long time and known I need to do something about it. But, as I'm not very good at introspection and self-analysis, I hadn't made much progress. Then I saw…
  • Welcome! This journey is better with a little help from friends! Since I seem to have lost a few active friends (folks have stopped logging in) I'm happy to add some new ones (especially when their name is similar to mine). :)
  • The original Beachbody Power 90 dvd set is beginner friendly. It has two dvds, beginner (level 1-2) and more advanced (level 3-4). The more advanced level is almost the same, just with a few additional moves and more sets. You have both a cardio routine and a separate "strength training" routine which uses light hand…
  • Children learn A LOT from watching the adults around them so it's very important to set a good example. Keeping lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and healthy snacks on hand and enjoying them yourself and with the kids will go a long way. Don't give them a lot of sugar, whether in sugary sodas, juices or snacks. No one…
  • For a proper lunge you should stand with your feet comfortably at hip width apart. When you step forward into the lunge position the goal is not to put your feet in line with each other. Your legs should remain hip width apart. Simply step straight forward and put your foot down. Also, go ahead and put one hand on…
  • Go to YouTube.com and type "exercise for beginners" in the search box. There are so many videos to choose from and they are free! If you find a specific type of routine you like (such as TaeBo or Zumba) type that in the search box along with the word beginner and see what options come up. Good luck to you. Whatever you…
  • Tae Bo, Kickboxing, any of the Beachbody programs. These workouts all engage and strengthen more muscles throughout the body, especially the core, than just walking or running. Increasing muscle mass and becoming stronger is great for everyone no matter what sex. For any of these types of workouts if you have problems with…
  • Thank you for your encouraging words! :flowerforyou:
  • I'm with you! I just decided to re-start proper low carb eating. I allowed myself to go back to semi "normal" eating (I was staying between 60 - 100g per day) and I have not been able to lose even though I am exercising. This was after gaining back 20 lbs over the holidays. I was losing last year eating low-carb and I felt…
  • I have learned that I can't say I love me. I can say I like what I am on the inside (mostly), but I hate the shape (out-of-shape) my body is in and am very angry at myself for letting me get this way. I know this is unhealthy, but that's the way it is. As I lose the weight I think I will be able to be proud of myself and…
  • This!! And because I need to practice kindness towards myself and greater self respect. Eating crap is not respecting myself and sabotaging my weight loss is not being kind to myself.
  • Nice progress! Keep up the good habits and exercise and you will reach all your goals! You can do it!
  • Too many good books to pick only one favorite! Stranger in a Strange Land. The Dresden Files series. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. Off Armageddon Reef series. Ender's Game series. Medalon by Jennifer Fallon and the other books in her series. Wit'ch Fire by James Clemons & the rest of the series. And many more!
  • I totally agree with the OP. I object to the use of the word skinny in that phrase. I personally use, "Nothing tastes as good as fit & healthy feels." Skinny is not healthy. I think the people defending the word really mean slender. From www.dictionary.com: skin·ny [skin-ee] Show IPA adjective, skin·ni·er, skin·ni·est,…
  • Don't wait, start toning and weight lifting now! Daily crunches and other core exercises for your belly! Drink lots of water!
  • Bump... must read for inspiration... thanks for the great post!
  • Bump to read for motivation....
  • bump... i'm pretty much at the beginning now... and you all have some good advice here!
  • You have a choice each and every day. Choose to succeed.
  • It is hard to stay motivated sometimes when life gets in the way or you are tired or feel like nothing you're doing is working or at least not working fast enough. I have those days too... actually, I've had those weeks, lol. But, I always come back around and get back in the groove because I really want to feel great and…
  • I'm a low-carber, was following Atkins, but have started following the Primal Blueprint and can say that cutting out sugar and all processed foods and upping my protein consumption made me feel and function better. The carbs I eat are mostly from vegetables and some fruit and I generally keep the number between 30 & 50…
  • You are all so inspiring! This thread is just what I needed today... I've been off the wagon lately have got to get back on track or I will never reach my goal!
  • THIS Also, think of it this way: If you want it bad enough you will find a way. If not, you'll find an excuse.

  • That's great, keep it up! As an emotional over-eater, I know it's hard to say no and/or stop sometimes. Each day or week staying in control is an accomplishment. I strive to think of what I put in my body as fuel to give me the power to run in top form. Good in = good for my body and I am worth it -- as are you! :)
  • Wow, you are doing so well! Be proud, be happy and keep up the good work!
  • Check out www.beachbody.com. They have several video programs that all produce great results. I've been using the original P90 videos (b/c I bought them long ago & recently found them languishing in a box) and recently added their Slim in 6 program because I found it at my local library. I also use some of Billy Blanks Tae…
