  • I like the fitness trail, because you get a little of the experience of being on the road, but without the worry of traffic. I mostly run on the road though.
  • re: Couch to 5K -- If you HATE running, this will make you LOVE it. (Unless you will just hate it no matter what. LOL.) It is really easy to follow. You just do what it says. I believe this is the original site: http://www.c25k.com I love the NHS site and the podcast is excellent. (However, don't land on the heel of your…
  • I've lost a lot of weight before without MFP. However, MFP has helped me to establish better eating habits while losing weight. It has also helped me to get into an exercise routine. The folks here are very supportive. The advice they give has a real face to it...without the gimmicks. I really appreciate MFP so much.
  • I completed W6D3 easily! I ran 1.8 miles straight. Because I ran so far in one direction, I actually ended up doing 3.3 miles altogether. The last 1.5 miles were mostly walking, with a little light jog for a few minutes. Unfortunately, I decided not to run on my heels so much and didn't quite get my form right until the…

  • Avocado slices on toast spread with cream cheese and topped with a tomato. Or, in a mixed salad. Or, mash with tomato and a spritz of lemon for a simple guacamole.
  • I know you would want to protect your sister from this guy, but it seems like the type of thing where, if you got in the middle, you could seriously lose your own mental health. If you haven't told her how you feel about this guy and feel like you must, tell her in ONE heart-to-heart conversation and then just let her make…
  • The body uses only three kinds of energy: fats, carbs, and protein. Fat is important for nerves. Carbs are important for energy. Protein is important for cell repair. Also, 1000 kcal/day sounds like it might be a bit low for your height and weight. I think you finally reached the perfect weight for your height.…
  • Am I understanding you correctly? You run a 4.5 minute mile? That is faster than some of the folks who I have met who are training for an ultra marathon .
  • Don't worry about speed yet. Go slow. Speed will build naturally over time. Do you have a heart rate monitor? It has been suggested to work out at 65% of your max heart rate if you are new to exercise. (You also burn more fat at a lower heart rate than if, say, you tried to work out at 80% max, where you would probably…
  • I met a guy who stalked me once. Thankfully, it was short-lived. I have met some nice couples that met on eHarmony or some other dating site. They will tell you there is a lot to weed through. If you have the patience, you can go that route. Otherwise, why not get involved in activities that you like where you can meet…
  • I was absolutely determined to figure out how to shop Whole Foods. I knew it was expensive, but I also thought the same with Trader Joe's. After a while, I realized that, if I avoided the gourmet stuff at TJ's, there was a lot left that was very well priced, as good or better than the supermarket. So, now, I do most of my…
  • If God exists, then atheists will have quite a shock one day. If he doesn't, they've got nothing to lose.

  • Yeah!!! WE can all celebrate!!! I am so happy for you guys, too!! And, yes, it was a mental hurdle, but I kept the pace slow and even and it worked! :-)))
  • because I put off my run for too many days this week as it is. It's time. :-)
  • I met someone with the same last name. It was her married name. Coupled with her first name, she has learned to enjoy the humor. (Sorry, won't disclose it here. I respect her too much.)
  • They taste disgusting to me. I'd rather have a salad than a fake burger.
  • LOL. Truth: 40 is not dead. Truth: It may be that it has taken some this long to feel the effects of being out of shape and/or of poor eating habits. Truth:There are truly OLD people running marathons! Give 'em this link: www.c25k.com and tell them it's time to start training! ;-P
  • Don't give up. Keep trying! you CAN do it. It just takes time. :-) Have you tried working out at a low intensity? When your HR gets high, you tend to use up more carbs. When it is lower, you tend to use more fat for fuel.
  • Go slow. Do what you can. You can always repeat a week if you need to. Progress will come.
  • Um, both of these women are curvy. One is thin. One is heavy. Curvy is a body shape, so I agree with the OP. I don't like that people automatically assume I am fat if I say I am curvy. I think that is what the OP is getting at. I am curvy and overweight at present, hoping to be curvy and a healthy weight some day soon.
  • I do this with lemon slices. I'll keep them in my glass all day and refill it with water. I don't eat them though.
  • I don't like diet and often go for the real thing. You can replace it with seltzer and lemon (or any kind of fruit mixed in). You can make a spritzer with 1/2 juice, 1/2 seltzer. Tea with honey is great. (Herbal tea is better than caffeinated.) Or, even iced tea. Camomile is a sweet tea, which tastes really good chilled.…
  • bump Great Ideas! I tend to just steam mine or put them into a salad.
  • From what you have told us, your mom has issues that stem back many years. They are not about you, but she is taking them out on you. I do not know how to solve any of this. I do know that, should you continue to stay in that situation, you will not get better. And, she will not get better. (You are a very convenient…
  • Keep notes about how the pain presents itself, so that if it persists, you can let the doctor know that and how you attempted to self-treat it (if you do). I can have a similar experience if my shoes are tied too tightly.
  • It happens! :-) I was a really slow runner when I was a kid, but now I can run as fast as a 4 year old! And, I am not out of breath! (For a few minutes at least...lol.)
  • You have a wise mother. The reason she is probably saying being around him all day is poisonous is probably because you are isolating yourself from the outside world. (Isolation can make you more depressed.) He may not be bad for you. But, when you spend all your time with one person, you ask a lot of them. They can end up…
  • All of these. I also didn't realize how much I'd gained because I was thin and almost always thought of myself as thin. It took a long time before I realized I didn't just gain a few pounds, but that I was overweight. My doctor made it hit home that it was time to lose weight and keep it off.
