  • Saving this for later... yum!
  • Hi Amanda! I'm also an Amanda, also recently diagnosed with PCOS. It's so great to know I'm not alone!
  • This Friday may not work for me - going out of town this weekend to visit family in Winston-Salem. I hope others can join though!
  • So I just am now getting back to MFP after a very prolonged absence. If I wasn't working a late shift at work today (and had I seen this sooner). I would have seconded the meetup. I love Champa in BC! Would you consider a rescheduling?
  • My fiance and I are also in ring-choosing mode. Sounds like you are looking for something like my Joseph would like. We're going through a jeweler at this website, probably something like this one: http://www.stuller.com/products/tar264/?groupId=104445 They have a lot of black/silver rings for guys there. Highly…
  • I don't mind dogs. I have a cat, though he's not exactly "walkable". If I had the time for a dog I'd have one myself. Your puppy looks very cute. :-) Where are you located? I'm near the Brier Creek area.
  • I don't have a dog but I'm in the area and could use some extra exercise, especially with the weather warming up soon!
  • I'd love a cheerleader! Feel free to add me, and I'll try my best to cheer you on too.
  • Welcome! Awesome job on having already lost 80 lbs... that amazing! I'm curious... I wonder how many calories you burn every time you type "saskatchewan"? I bet it's double for those of us who have to think about how to spell it first!
  • Me! Congrats on your wedding. I'm in the same boat - I won't be at my healthy weight, but I will be healthier! And every few inches helps when getting into that dress!
  • Welcome! This is a great place for help, advice, and best of all the much-needed swift kick in the butt when we all inevitably falter off the wagon! We're all in this together, and there's no better way to tackle the tough journey ahead then with friends who are all walking down the same (or at least very similar) road!…
  • The presentation idea sounds lovely, so go with that! As for the chip compliment for the soup, I can't say I know much about avocado soup, though I'd say something NOT avocado just for some contrast. Sweet potato is always a favorite of mine! As for the bread issue, I don't think it would be too heavy - and even if it is,…
  • Welcome to MFP! This site is a wonderful tool, motivator, and support group all wrapped up into one. Feel free to add me as a friend if you don't have enough already  I know it's daunting to look at the ticker when it has triple digits on it, but just look forward to the day when it says you've LOST triple digits!…
  • When I have a pizza craving, I do two whole wheat tortillas, tomato sauce, shredded cheese, and turkey pepperoni. It ends up being quite filling and definitely satisfies my craving with a pair of pizzas that are all total about 450 calories!
  • Hi Jenny! I'm in a similar boat (trying to lose about 150 pounds). This site is a great resource and reminder when things get tough, as they inevitably do. But people on here are wonderful! If you'd like some support, feel free to add me and I'll help however I can!
  • Hi Mickey! Welcome to MFP... I started my journey here from the exact same point as you - Had gotten to 290 lbs, and it was so close to the 300 lbs point that I told myself I would NEVER hit! I also got tired of having trouble finding cute clothes and feeling awful in summer shorts and suits. You can do this! Just one day,…
  • I can TOTALLY relate to your plight - I'm the same way. I have the same stuff pretty much for breakfast and lunch, but dinner is so variable that I need to be very careful. I'm also a graduate student, so I have NO time to cook meals anymore. I've been trying to find some quick and easy recipes that share ingredients so…
  • Welcome to MFP! It is a great site and a wonderful tool, plus the community is outstanding! Ireland is also outstanding... I hope to go back for a visit some day! Maybe that will be my big reward
  • Sounds delicious. Thanks for posting!
  • Perhaps there's been a slight misunderstanding about how this site works... This site does set some calories allotments to be only 1200 daily (but never less as they know it's dangerous below that limit). However, it does tell you to increase your intake if you exercise. Based on your second post, you exercised about 600…
  • Welcome Miranda! :drinker: Support we can offer in spades  MFP is a great tool - it's helped me lose 20 lbs and I think, for the first time in my life, it is gone FOREVER! It's a great way to start a new, healthier lifestyle and makes it really easy to see just what bad habits we might have developed without even…
  • I'm also 100+ pounds (more like 150!) overweight, and I'm on my feet most of the day (I work in a lab 10+ hours each day). I've been really happy with my New Balance Running shoes. They come in wide widths (which I need) and are comfy. They seem to hold up fairly well too, and they aren't as expensive as some of the other…
  • Not trying to be a party pooper, but we discussed eating fish during pregnancy during my toxicology course. The short version: be careful! Salmon is relatively safe for a developing baby if limited to a small portion once a week, but some other fish varieties should be removed from the diet completely. These include the…
  • Don't fret! Remember, this site has your goal calories being set at AT LEAST a 500 calorie deficit (more if you want to lose more than a pound a week). So, if you went 500 over, the worst case scenario is that you ate your maintenance calories. That means that you won't have "lost" any weight today, but you didn't gain!…
  • I love snopes.com for being a great resource to debunk these really awful emails that do nothing but spread bad information! Understanding nutrition and eating right is difficult enough without constantly being told information that is misleading, wrong, and in many cases dangerous (don't drink cold water or you'll get…
  • Recently diagnosed with PCOD (as my doc called it) myself and I was totally floored, even though it explained a lot. It's hard enough to lose weight even when your own body constantly ISN'T fighting you the whole time! That diagnosis did kick me in the butt though. Here's to beating the hormones!
  • You are taking the right approach! So much of why we eat is tied to emotions and psychology. I had a similar experience a little over a month ago - I was dangerously close to going over 300 (something I swore to myself I'd NEVER do) and that's what kicked me in the butt to get started on this site. Then I realized that the…
  • I'm going to have to second some of the above posts. I'm a graduate student studying cancer biology and pharmacology. I certainly won't claim to know everything, but a lot of the above "claims" are false or questionable at best. While some of the general suggestions are not bad to follow (trans fats are bad, excess sugar…
  • Not to get all science-y (pardon the grad student), but food only stays in your stomach for about 45 minutes to an hour before it moves into the intestines, where most of your food absorption will take place. So 2 hours out or more, chances are you have absorbed a majority of the major nutrients/calories in whatever you…
  • The good (and bad) thing about trying to lose weight: nothing is permanent! So you were off for a couple of days. You can get back into it, and you'll eventually get to the same point you would have anyhow! :-)
