Go take a look at Salvation Army or other clean and well-organized second hand stores. You'd be surprised how many nice things you can find there. Of course, it takes some time to search. But certainly, it's all worth it! Why pay $100 when you can buy for $2. I'm all for a cleaner Earth and saving natural resources.

I've read a lot about this eating lifestyle, and I think to most people, it would be a great experience to start eliminating the bad carbs, especially those coming from flour and white sugars. I naturally eat lots of fresh veggies and fruit with some protein, so the primal eating makes sense to me in most cases. The only…

In my opinion, each person needs to find his/her own balance. So, there is no rule that applies to all the people. I learned it the hard way since I always tried following some low-carb diets and realized each time I feel terrible. I felt weak with very low carb diets, but at the same time, if I didn't watch my carb…

Yes, you're right, not being able to add carrots to your salad in the evening is not a right way to track the sugars. :noway: I agree with the previous comment- remove the bottled smoothies from your diet (you can make one at home yourself, with fresh ingredients, while balancing the ingredients you add into it). As I…

I agree-- I really like Salvation Army stores, in any case, losing weight or not. Since I practice green living, I love the idea of saving the natural resources and recycling not only glass or plastic, etc. but also the clothes in a certain way. It's such a good feeling to know you're not spending hundreds on some…

Use it in baking! It works great! Use it instead of milk, for example in a healthy muffin recipe, make a few batches and freeze them for an occasional breakfast treat with some cottage cheese on the side to fill you up! I use yogurt all the time in baking. Although I'm surprised no one likes it in your family--…

Wow! Congrats for this achievement, keep it going! :flowerforyou:

It's one of my favorite products! I use it instead of sour cream in soups; in salads as a dressing ingredient (i.e. mix with some spices+ lemon juice); in baking, instead of milk or full fat product; in my desserts, by adding berries and/or honey, cinnamon; for my breakfast, by adding some healthy cereal on top; in…

Honestly, I know lots of media is trying to advertise milk as a magic product, but it is not all that great for most people. Many people are lactose intolerant, and they cannot lose weight, feel sluggish and tired just because of consuming milk (or other dairy products) without realizing the consequences. In fact, milk…

The best snack or meal combinations are those that have proportionally close ratios of proteins and carbs. This is the best combo to fill you up. Examples: > apple and greek yogurt > celery and 2TB natural nut butter > boiled egg and some raw carrots > whole wheat crackers or rice cake and 1oz cheese > cucumber/carrots…

I suggest you track protein too. If you're not diabetic, I wouldn't worry about the sugar in fruit, just don't eat limitless quantities. Fresh fruit and veggies are the last to be limited in anyone's diet. It's white flour and added sugar that has to go! And make sure you eat something that has protein when you eat the…

A good question. I had the same one. Just because I am a huge fan of cooking and eating healthy and tasty homemade foods. We should teach kids how to choose the best foods for them, so they don't have to struggle later, in the adulthood.

Make sure you drink lots of plain water! Make a goal to drink at least 2 glasses each time you have a meal. Then, have two glasses each time you feel like snacking. It's amazing, how many people eat when they simply need to drink water! As the previous post mentioned, have fresh veggies to snack on (but get your water…

All your meals besides breakfast and snacks are balanced. Please add protein to any carbohydrate, so your breakfast DEFINITELY needs protein, as some suggested, maybe an egg, or the plain (or at least organic, if flavored) Greek yogurt, or cottage cheese. Same with snacks! If eating an apple, or other fruit, eat it with…

A good advice here. Although for a beginner, I'd say whole eggs would do. I know there's a lot controversy about eggs, but the latest research is actually showing the health benefits of the egg yolk. The whole egg is one of the most complete foods, with good protein and healthy fats. So, training for fitness competitions,…

Wow, great job, congrats on such a big and important accomplishment!

> my fruit, most of the time apples, oranges, kiwi, berries > my veggies (frozen or fresh, many and any) > low fat farmer cheese or cottage cheese, plain yogurt > almonds > pumpkin seed rice cakes > fish, chicken and eggs > black coffee > water > tea (green, black, herbal) > red wine > dark chocolate with whole hazelnuts >…

Marinate the cut up chicken breast pieces in some olive oil, lemon juice, fresh thyme (optional) and garlic. Then sauté in the non-stick pan with no additional oil till the pieces are a bit browned. You can broil these too I guess. Just make sure you don't overcook the chicken, it gets really dry then. Toss some salad, and…

I love yoga! I'm not sure about the weight loss since this really depends what you're eating and whether you're doing any other exercise, etc. But yoga is definitely worth taking up not as an exercise, but more as a wonderful calming and stretching sessions. If I skip yoga for too many days in a row, my body is asking for…

Oh wow! :-) It makes me happy to see people succeed! Keep it going, stay focused and motivated! :-)

Exactly right. A good answer. I was going to reply in greater detail, but when found your reply here, I feel there is no need to. I had amenorrhea several years back, when my weight got too low because of not taking a proper care of myself and not having normal eating schedule (full-time job, full-time studying, etc.). So,…

Good post and excellent conclusion. I wish all the parents thought this way. It feels great to be an example of balanced, healthy living for others.

Stay with your goals, be strong and don't let anyone upset you. It's only you who chooses the reaction to anyone's words. Be confident that you can become healthy, regardless of other opinions. :-) I feel so bad for those, whose parents say mean things to their children, although I do understand that they're doing this…

AMAZING! :-) Thanks for sharing the pictures with all of us-- it is a huge inspiration as the pictures are worth thousand words!!! Keep up your work and keep us updated. Your motivation is contagious! :-)

It's the first time ever I hear caffeine as an appetite increaser. I know that it's an appetite suppressant, quite the opposite. However, overdoing on caffeine (having more than 300mg a day= about two 8oz. cups of coffee) is harmful to health.

If possible, try to balance the cravings for sweets out with protein. No kidding. When our bodies crave bad carbs (candy, cookies, white bread, etc) that means we overdid them already. So grab something with clean protein to fill you up (some cheese, piece of chicken with veggies, plain (or low sugar) yogurt with some nuts…

I love green tea, especially the Japanese kind. I'd say, you need to acquire the taste for green tea, like you do for some cheeses or wines. :-) It has its own unique mild flavor. But two important things, if you're going to try hot green tea and make it yourself: -- don't pour boiling water over the tea bag, it needs to…

You are absolutely right that high fructose corn syrup is bad bad bad for you. There are many natural or organic brands of yogurts that I would suggest you try, according to the budget. In general, Yoplait and some other yogurts are doing more harm than good for your body... So, please pay attention to the ingredients.…

No, it is sold in many places in the US. :-)
