I've also got Graves, also on methimizole. After starting on it, I promptly gained 10 lbs and it has been a struggle since then. I'm currently 5 down (got up to 160, trying to get back to 150; I am 5'9'' and 42). Other than the weight gain, the methimizole has been fine. I don't really want to do the radioactive iodine if…

There is a blog called chocolate covered katie. On it she has a chocolate chip cookie cake made with garbanzo beans. I have made it; its delicous. I used real sugar, not stevia or anything. My 10 year old son requested it for his birthday. Once it's cooked you can't taste the garbanzo beans at all. Not sure of total…

I had a long plateau and I've just started losing again. I ended up getting my metabolic rate tested and going to a nutritionist as well. I have a thyroid disease so I was sort of hoping to blame my difficulties on that! It turns out that for me (I am 43), the calories that MFP assumed for exercise burn were way too high.…

I adore diet coke and I used to drink it first thing in the morning and then at least 3 during the day. I gave it up about a month ago. I still miss it. The first week without was horrible. But now I do feel better (especially first thing in the morning) and I do notice that my cravings for sweets are reduced. Its easier…

I love TJ's. My favorite healthy foods are: Trader Joes Healthy 8 Chopped Veggies (fresh) Asian Style Spicy Peanut vinagette (I bring these two to work for snacks) Also their bagged veggies: broccoli slaw, snap peas, etc. Their lemonade fast flavor sticks (like a Crystal Light) I add to water. Their nuts Pre cooked chicken…

I gave it up 3 weeks ago. This is the first week I feel decent (the headaches that first week were horrible) but I do feel better in the morning when I wake up -- I no longer need to drink a diet coke first thing in the morning. And the first two weeks I also did eat sweets. This week I have noticed my cravings for…

Hi! I am 42, with Graves disease, diagnosed 18 months ago, and struggling with 10 lbs. I lost 5, then gained it back. So annoying. And so slow when I am losing. I do well with exercise, its the eating super well all the time that's hard for me. I sent you a friend request. Good luck!

It's fantastic. The chocolate one does not taste chocolate-y; but the regular one tastes like peanut butter. I put it in oatmeal, in pancakes, in greek yogurt.

Sadly, my life now prevents me from swimming enough to have shoulder pain. But when I did, I loved the cho pat upper arm band, it was a lifesaver. http://www.braceshop.com/productcart/pc/Cho-Pat-Upper-Arm-Strap-546p1661.htm I don't work for them or have any affiliation, I am just a fan.

Rental: http://www.wetsuitrental.com/rent-a-triathlon-wetsuit.html Swim at least once in it so you can see what it feels like. Also practice taking it off. I have seen people successfuly use Pam non stick cooking spray if they need to on their body to help get it on easier where it is tight.

Do you do flip turns? I have disc issues (L4,L5 and L5 S1) and although I swim quite a bit (and do swim side to side, or at least try to; another thing that helps with that is breathing every 3 or 5 strokes on both sides instead of always breathing on the same side) and have found that not doing flip turns keeps my back a…

Yep. There is a thyroid disorder group here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/753-hypothyroidism-and-hyperthyroidism I went to a nutritionist who told me I shouldn't eat back all my exercise calories -- because when I did, I was actually gaining. so now every day it says if you ate like this you would weigh 145 and…

Please tell someone. A counselor, your parents, a teacher. And if they don't help, please tell someone else. Here is a blog about folks with eating disorders: http://blogs.psychcentral.com/weightless/ Good luck to you.

I also am hyperthyroid (Graves disease) and am also on methimizole. I gained 10 lbs on methimizole and it stayed on for most of 2011. Then in 2012 so far I have lost about 5 lbs. Its been tough and SLOW. I eat less than I used to, and more protein, and healthier, and its still super slow!! Additionally, I work out most…

I'm 5'9 and down to 155, trying to get to 150. Its driving me batty. 153 one day, 156 the next, then back down to 154. I am also 42 and have thyroid issues, even just getting from 162 (my recent high weight) down to this weight was tough. Today I skiied and did NOT eat well. Also traveled last week, and both days flying…

I'm hyperthyroid. Have Graves disease. When I got on the meds, I did put on 10 lbs right away, but I also felt better and slept better. Now that I am on a consistent medicine (methimizole; I don't take beta blockers) my thyroid SHOULD be normal but I am still finding it very difficult to lose weight. I've lost some, and…
