Perhaps a lanolin cream meant for breastfeeding moms would help the skin heal faster (essentially we get the same problem). Lansinoh makes a good one that is not too greasy.

When I had gestational diabetes my nutritionist gave me a handy printout that gave common household items you can use to estimate portion sizes. You can google "estimating food portions" and a lot of sources will come up. Here's a link to a basic guide with grams and ounces: http://www.exrx.net/Nutrition/FoodPortions.html

I got a digital Polder scale on Amazon.com. I don't like it though as it does not give accurate readings. It's OK for weighing food (off by a couple of ounces or half gram or so usually) but I'm not sure I'd trust it for baking. I read tons of reviews on line and know the brand has a good reputation for other kitchen…

Congrats on the baby and definitely talk to your doc about your weight and caloric needs. Generally women don't gain in the first trimester, some even lose if they have bad nausea. If you start out overweight, the recommendation is that you gain less weight. A lot of the weight gain will be blood, amniotic fluid, water…

Dunkin Donuts Large Mocha Coolata with cream is 990 calories (I used to have these daily with whipped cream on top)!!!! Holy Moly is right!

As others have said, please find some support so you can learn to talk yourself out of this cycle of thinking. Clearly you recognize the signs. Do this not just for you, but for your baby and fiance. Don't forget that MFP sets you up with a deficit for weight loss, so you don't have to strive for a negative caloric intake.…

Have you started solids yet? My little one was not sleeping at all (night or day) at 6 months either, plus had terrible reflux. As soon as I started him on solids at 6 months he started sleeping better and I was able to stop his reflux meds too. At least if you can all start sleeping better and hopefully you'll have some…

Thanks! I always make my own too but just put little of this and a little of that... every time it comes out different! I'm going to make up a batch of this.

I know you're upset about the way FA is calculated and whose income is considered but your 2nd job plan may end up backfiring as students are pretty much expected to spend all their money on college costs whereas parents are only expected to allot a percentage because they have other costs (mortgage/rent, other children,…

Pizza dough is pretty much flour and water. Flour has a lot of calories. My unbleached all purpose flour has 100 cal per 0.25 cups and the pizza recipe I use has 1.75 cups flour per pizza (about 10"). So that would be 700 calories from the flour alone for the dough for the whole pizza. Not all that bad if you get 8 slices…

Bump. Gotta try these! Thanks :)

Saving this one! My daughter loves chicken pot pie and the store bought ones are so high in calories! Thanks :)

Wow! Thanks for asking this. I just saw some at Costco and was curious too. I think I'll go and buy a bag.

I think a couple of time a week is OK. The chunk light is better than the albacore because it had less mercury. I've also read that if you mix in some sardines (not so much that you taste it, if you don't like the taste) you get an awesome calcium hit too.

Congrats on reaching your goal! I am no expert but maybe you could adjust your goals to maintenance and see what happens. Your weight will fluctuate by a few pounds anyway so as long as you are comfortable with your size and your clothes fit, enjoy the fruits of your labor! Hope this makes sense :)

Hi! You've come to the right place. There are lots of moms here dealing with the same issues. One thing that has helped me is getting rid of all the junk food because I could not help myself either when I had it in the house. Also, I have gotten very strict with myself about serving sizes. If I want a salty snack I will…

Hi there, My mom had this done. I will talk to her about recovery etc. and get back to you. I do know she's taking thyroid medication, but her thyroid was removed completely. How if affects your metabolism would depend on the reason it's being removed. If its overactive, then you should not have a problem with low…

My calorie goals have stayed the same, at 1500 since I joined. The only thing that changes as I've lost weight is the calories burned, so when I log my exercise (which is usually 30 minutes of elliptical) I get fewer exercise calories. I'll be interested to see if there is a change in the calorie goals when I pass 10lb…

I have one target sports bra and I cannot use it for working out. It's like a too tight cut off tank top! It provides no support and I'm only a B cup. So I can't even imagine what you're dealing with when you run. I use Nike sports bras and they are really comfortable. They stay put and are soft and hold you in place. I…

I find this annoying too. I edit a lot of entries and always double check what I find in the database with the label on my food. It's hard though when you're looking for fresh produce or fruit. I had the same issue with corn on the cob myself yesterday. Couldn't believe the number of entries! The nice thing about editing…

My prenatal yoga instructor recommended massaging the bottom of your heel to help alleviate sciatica. Also my husband gets sciatica when he doesn't get enough water so stay hydrated. But, as others have said, get checked out just in case.

I'm still waiting to see a difference but I hear you on the motivation! I did recently try on a pair of pre baby jeans and they went on with no muffin top. Unfortunately I hadn't thought to take a before picture (when they barely zipped up and the bulge flowed over the "tummy flattening" waist band)! You've done well with…

my speedy "creamed spinach" -1 cup frozen chopped spinach -1 wedge laughing cow cheese (light) Microwave the spinach until hot and mix in the wedge of cheese. You can use any flavor of cheese that you like. I usually throw in some red pepper flakes or cayenne to spice it up. Makes one serving= 65 calories.

Hillshire Farms has nice lunch meats that are nitrite free. I think $4.99 a package at my store (but I can't remember the quantity - might be 12 oz). They last a while before opening so I'll get a couple of packets when they're on sale. I usually get the costco turkey breast though - really good value for money and large…

At least you know them for what they really are. But it's sad that they couldn't look past your appearance. Congrats on coming so far in a year and being healthier and fitter and leaving those jerks in your dust!

I eat 2 slices of Pepperidge Farms lite style soft wheat bread every day for breakfast. They are 45 cal per slice and not all that bad for carbs. Sometimes I have the whole wheat Arnolds Deli Flats. Sometimes (very rarely) I even indulge in some white scali bread... You need some carbs in your diet and definitely whole…

I am not a nutritionist, so I am just offering my uneducated opinion. I think that perhaps even the 1 or 2 restaurant outings per week could derail your efforts. Not just because of calorie counts but because of sodium and added sugar. I know we are all different and what works for one person might not work for another. My…

Hang in there! I found 6 months to be a real turning point. baby started solids and naps became more predicable. He's 9 months now and his sister is almost 3 years. I either drag myself out of bed after his 5 am bottle (yay me) for a workout or I do it during his morning nap while my daughter watches a video (bus usually…

Hi again, I wouldn't worry so much about going over on the protein count. It's set pretty low by mfp. I'm already over on mine and just finished lunch! Watch the calories and sugar though. Veggies will give you the fiber and nutrients your body needs so always choose that over sweets. I use a lot of frozen veggies and use…

Hi there, I just looked at your diary. You are not eating enough and are consuming empty calories with the pot noodle and galaxy bar. Not to mention the sodium in the pot noodle. Instead of the chocolate, have a handful of nuts. if you are craving chocolate, go for a piece of dark chocolate (like lindt 85% or something…
