  • i love indian food - but curries are SO bad for you. stick to anything 'tandoori' - pieces of meat, not minced (kofta). for example chicken tikka is lean pieces of chicken coated in yoghurt and grilled in the oven. also, veggies like bindi bhaji (okra in tomato sauce) are fibrous and low in cals. skip the bread and rice!…
  • slim fast is sugar and water and artifical colours and flavours - there is no 'magic bullet' - slimfast only works because people lower their calories to a very low level, and are 'schooled' into not eating real food so they don't get tempted. are u going to eat slimfast for the rest of your life? probably not. so maybe…
  • well done! do u have any good tips??
  • yes, i think it is also a lack of routine. like, i tend to sleep in, wander round the shops, watch films, go out for drinks, etc. never mind we shall soldier on!!! thanks all xx
  • I have just had a bit of an epiphany, people! i realized that i have been complaining of my 'plateau' and cycling within the same three/four pounds for EVER. then i went back and realized that every sunday night/monday morning i am heavier. i realized that on the weekend i really relax my eating habits and do less exercise…
  • i did speak to a doctor at one point who just told me to keep hydrated - but i drink loads of water! i am thinking of trying to do a week without any sugar - does anyone have any tips on a sugar free diet? thanks!
  • ok, whenever i have a binge (even if it is just a MINI binge, like going over cals) - and may i add this is only ever on sweets, candy etc never alcohol, fried food, etc) - i wake up the next morning with this very weird ache all over my body. it's literally like my entire body is bruised and sore to the touch, especially…
  • hah. well i shouldn't have posted - two days and good eating later, and i'm up to 125.8! i am getting very bored if this whole thing.....
  • i'm the same as you, only needing to lose maximum ten pounds. 1-try to add some resistance training - building muscle will burn fat faster and make you look leaner 2-try to eat every 2-3 hours. its hard at first and you never feel hungry but it WORKS cos u never want to snack on sugary things 3-eat a substantial breakfast,…

  • just a quick question from a baffled idiot! so i have been on a plateau (between 125-127lb) for ages now, around two months. but this morning i woke up, after three days of eating every 2hrs (new thing to boost metabolism) and am down to 124.2! could this be me overcoming the plateau, or will it pile back on again…
  • kidsrus - not a stupid question! I'm no expert either. HIIT stands for 'high intensity interval training' and it basically means instead of long duration steady cardio, you do a short (10-20 min) workout with very high intensity sprint intervals interspersed with rest periods. it's knackering but very good for your fitness…
  • so, basically, i have been on a plateau for AGES, moving within the same four pounds. i only have eight-ish to lose, though. couple of weeks ago i started a new weights/HIIT regime called Tabata and although it's a much shorter workout than I am used to, I already feel stronger and tighter. I had a bad weekend food-wise,…
  • wait. i think the harris benedict formula is 1.55 for 'modertely active' which means working out moderate/hard 4-5 times a week. wouldn't this be you? then you subtract 500 cals but don't add exercise cals, cos theyre already factored in, if u know what i mean.
  • 9 miles a day!!!! wow!!!! can you share some tips on a) how you got off your plateau and b) how you got up to running 9 miles/day? i can run maybe 2 but i am puffed after that!
  • peeing 5 times a night isn't normal i don't think! that can be a sign of diabetes, just be careful! i get hungry at night too, dont know what the solution is....!??
  • OMG I AM OBSESSED WITH PICK n MIX!! seriously i can't NOT have it when i go to the cinema - the last three or four times i haven't had it and it's been a killer!! to be honest, i think (obviously depending on what you put in the bag) there's about 500kcals per 100g. so if you weigh the bag and its 200g, then eat half, its…
  • well done! it's such a great way to workout. for the last week or so, i've been using the tabata protocol: it looks easy but its HELL! banks might be able to shed some more light on it! basically, i warm up for 5 mins at 8 kph. then i sprint for 20 seconds at 15 or 16kph, rest for 10 on sides of treadmill. basically do…
  • nice work opera bound! do you have any tips for those of us still on plateaus? did u just do more exercise/work out harder? any tips very appreciated!!
  • thanks, all useful info - eating clean is always a good start! does anyone have any advice on how quickly i should be looking to lose considering i have minimal pounds to go? even 1/2 lb per week isn't happening - one pound in three months!!? thanks!
  • i should add to that, that i am calculating my calories using my BMR (1400) x 1.45 = 2030 - 400 = 1630/day. then i calorie cycle these 1630 unevenly. so, technically, i should be seeing just under 1 lb/week but i am not!
  • when you are losing the last 8-10 lbs, what is the minimum weight loss you should see in a month? i've netted a loss of only ONE pound in three months although within that i've gone down 2 and up 2. is this ok for someone who doesnt want to lose huge amounts, or am i doing something wrong? thanks!
  • i put it in oatmeal, incorporate it into baking, with low calorie cereal, straight with water/soy milk, in smoothies, with yoghurt/cottage cheese - it is SO versatile! literally u can put it with virtually anything sweet.
  • i LOVE WHM! is there any other good online magazines/sites people use? thnx!
  • hey both! i was/am in the same boat. only have about eight to lose and they are STUBBORN! so mfp put me at 1200 + exercise. i lost 2lb the first week btu then gained it back and have hovered around 24-26 ever since (3 months). three weeks ago i put my cals up to averaging 1500/day (inc exercise cals). this was worked out…
  • whaaaaat? i drink Alpro Soy Light b/c it only has 21 cals per 100mls and is thicker than regular milk. is it really fat-inducing? also, so does this trainer advocate cutting all dairy and soy? the man has obviously never had water-based oatmeal...blurrgh!!
  • Hi! Has anyone heard of the tabata protocol? it's basically a VERY short and intense HIIT workout that is supposed to be excellent for increasing cardio endurance and lowering body fat. since i am only trying to lose the last ten, i thought perhaps doing this kind of workout 3x week, with weights, + 2 longer, moderate jogs…
  • thanks - great advice! i didn't eat a lot of the indian food and only health bits like fish tandoori - but i was very thirsty when i got in so i know that it must have been high in salt! i know, i definitely didnt go over by 3500!! what a funny thought. will keep that in mind, thanks !:flowerforyou:
  • hmmm thanks - its just so disheartening b/c it never seems to fluctuate downwards!
  • ok, so today i stepped on the scale and i am UP 1.1lbs from the same time YESTERDAY! how is this possible? its not that TOM, i drank most of my water yesterday and didnt go over in cals. the only thing is i had some indian food last night - would that be too much sodium and thus possibly increase water weight? i know i…
