  • I have been bad at posting here. Ooops. I was suppose to run my last real long(ish) run before my half this past Saturday. After an evening of margaritas and fried appetizers running is tough! What was suppose to be 8 miles turned into only 5. But oh well. This week I have: Mon - 4 miles Tues - rest, moving new…
  • I am not single but I do have 2 kids and have lost 70 lbs in the last 2 years. I have 20 left to lose (give or take, depending on what my goal is for the day). I do NOT spend the majority of my day exercising. I sit 8 hours a day at my job. However, I MAKE time in my day to exercise even if it means dragging my kids to the…
  • I know this doesn't help right now BUT I just read something about KT tape (maybe on a blog) earlier this morning. Let me go back through my blog roll and see if I can find the article, then I will message you!
  • Can you foam roll or use a "stick" to massage it deep? I have a hard time getting a good stretch in my glutes sometimes so I use a foam roller and sometimes (at the gym) I use their stick...it hurts like heck but it helps! I hope you can get some relief. Like you, I don't like to take too much ibuprofen or use it on a…
  • Congrats!!!
  • Cross training day today. I went to spin class. 13.65 miles in 45 minutes. Tonight's class was a strength training ride. so fun! Tomorrow is a rest day. Saturday I think I will just run 8 miles. Sunday will be the 2 week mark before my half!! Crazy how fast it came up. I keep saying that! As far as shoes go... I currently…
  • Fartleks or intervals.. Speed workouts are great. You should be able to do a quick search on speed intervals for runners and find something that will fit into your current workout schedule.
  • It's pretty much awesome! And a great workout. I love it, especially when the instructor is good. We have one instructor with bad music and no personality. You get out of the class what you put into it!
  • My county has some really great greenways.. about 11 miles or so worth so I typically go there. One connects to my gym and the gym has childcare, huge plus! Sometimes I will run from home and run my neighborhood and surrounding streets. I live in the country so it's peaceful and rarely do I see any cars, unless I get out…
  • Try adding more fresh fruits and veggies and lean proteins to your diet rather than so much processed foods. And your calories are on the very low end, try eating more.
  • Way to go!
  • Try sipping hot lemon water during that time to help get rid of the excess fluid. I was told this when I did LA Weight Loss many years ago and it worked, or seemed to. And yes, it is possible to lose weight during that time of the month but it is also possible to gain.
  • Drink your water. Eat lean proteins, plenty of fiber, good fats, fresh fruits and veggies. Exercise will allow you a few extra calories to eat as well. Are the calories you are eating junk?
  • Currently my goal is 142 which is still probably high for my height BUT I started this whole weight loss thing at 230 lbs 2+ years ago. It's been slow. I currently weigh 165 and for whatever reason my body can't seem to get past 163-165 for very long. Heck, right now I would be happy to reach 150. If I do and then ever get…
  • I agree about making exercise (and yourself) a priority. No excuses, just do it! Get up early, do it after the kids are bed.
  • I ran with a friend last night. It was hard. The friends I usually run with are at a 9:45-10:30 pace. On my short, easy runs I am usually around 10-10:20 pace. We ran slow last night and I knew it. It was tough for me. I didn't take my Garmin but my friend had us at around 11 mm. I hate to admit but I barely was sweating…
  • Nike has some. I usually get mine at their outlet stores. Also Nike tempo shorts have an ipod/key pocket on the inside. And their tights have a zipper pocket on the back. Depending on how long you are running you could tri a SPIbelt or Nathan makes a small belt for things like gels, gu, phone, key, etc.
  • I use what I started MFP at. My highest weight is 230 lbs but that was well before I ever started MFP. My current weight is 165. I started MFP at 168.
  • For my shorter runs I can manage a solid 10-10:10 min mile but I am considerably slower for my long runs (anything over 6). It is normal to be slower for the long runs especially starting out. Once you work on speed and increase that on the short runs you will find that the long run pace for you has increased too. I have…
  • I agree with the pacing info Runnerdad has given! The only way I have been able to increase my pace is to push hard with the speed training and tempo runs. I had a long run yesterday. 11 miles through beautiful Cades Cove, TN. Those hills kill me, but I am so grateful for hilly training runs. It was the perfect day! Next…
  • I replace about every 400 miles or every 3/4 months.
  • What is your longest run so far? If a 10k is your longest to date I would hold off on a half marathon until I am up to at least 10 miles for the long run.
  • I agree with STG and others that disagree with the poster saying not to run if you are 30lbs or more overweight. I started running at 230 lbs. I now weigh about 165. I have ran many many 5ks, 8 and 10ks as well as a half marathon. I am currently training for my 2nd half marathon. My knees don't ache and I am still at least…
  • I get hung up on the scale. I admit that. I want so badly to see a certain number and hopefully one day I will BUT like someone else said... there is still that one goal size I want to be. I want to wear a certain size jeans so as long as the inches keep coming off I can be just as happy with that even if the scale doesn't…
  • Had a tempo run last night 6 miles w/4 miles at tempo pace. It was a great run. 6.08 miles in 62 minutes. Today is a rest day, which I will gladly take. I love how my legs feel fresh for my long runs on the weekend! Tomorrow I will do an easy 3 miler and probably lift weights. Sunday is an 11 miler in beautiful Cades Cove!…
  • My training plan last week was this: M/W/F - rest or XT Tues - EZ 3 miles Thurs - 6 miles w/4 miles @tempo pace Sat - EZ 3 miles Sun- 12miles LSD In addition to those workouts I lift weights and take an abs class, usually on Tues/Thurs. I always take Friday as my rest day. Sometimes I also take Weds but on XT days I do…
  • My opinion/thought is that there are plenty of other "tools" out there to help weight loss. I started at 230 lbs and was NOT even a candidate for the surgery. So, I started this journey the old fashioned way...diet and exercise! But it takes much more than that. If you are not dedicated enough to diet and exercise then the…
  • I ran my 12 miler Saturday instead of Sunday. I'm so glad to have made it to 12...again! It's taper time for me before my half next month. This weekend my long run is only 9 miles. I am running in Cades Cove with a running group.. the options are 4, 8 and 11 miles. Not sure which run I will choose! I am thinking I should…
  • Rest days are important as they aide in preventing over training and injury. I take one solid rest day a week and on the other two days I am not running I cross train.
