They key, as several people have already said, is to weigh and measure your food and log it. You can pretty much eat whatever you want, provided you have the willpower to stop eating foods you really like. Some people find it easier to cut out foods they can't control themselves around altogether. If you can't eat only…

Now that's pretty silly. Someone put it away, so someone knows where it is. But here is a tip I tell my kids: If you put your own things away you will always know where to go find them when you want them. If you rely on other people to put your things away you will have to go look for them. Move the table and put it back…

Pop is a sound and a kind of music. Around here it's Coke. Soda if you must. I used to be addicted to Diet Coke. I probably drank 4-6 cans a day. My doctor was constantly harping on me to quit, but said tea was fine - go figure that one. Anyway back in February I started phentermine/topiramate, which totally alters the…

I bought a new scale. It's a Withings WiFi scale. I think I manually entered the immediately prior dates from the doctor's office. The long flat line off to the left is the remnants from my previous MFP attempt. This current attempt started on 2/28.

Your diary is not open, so not much can be said. You can eat as clean or dirty as you want, you need a calorie deficit to lose weight. It sounds like you are keeping a slight deficit as you have lost 3 pounds in 1 month. Depending on how overweight you currently are, you should be able to lose up to 2 pounds per week…

Save the money.

It's a good way to cut out high-calorie foods, which makes weight loss easier. Proteins and fats can help stave off hunger. But you can overeat on a low-carb diet just like you can without one.

I feel pitty. Most people are eating themselves into a problem because they don't know any better. We don't have built-in calorie gauges. If you just eat what you want when you want you will probably eat a calorie surplus in our current food environment. People generally don't start paying attention to what they are eating…

You have to look at the long-term trends.

I love getting on the scale every day. It's my motivation. I bought a WiFi scale that automatically transmits my weight and body fat and heart rate to my web site and MFP for auto-logging. It's great. I like data and my charts have fine granularity. I like it.

Diary isn't open, so no one can comment on your caloric intake. If you aren't losing weight, you are consuming too many calories. You need to log, and log accurately, or have no idea where you stand other than the scale. Right now, the scale is tell you you need to either eat less or exercise more. It's usually easier to…

Boy mine sure would. I can here it now. "Eeeew! What are these GREEN THINGS in my HAMBURGER!?!?!" Followed by picking them all out.

My opinion is that pretty much anything called a "supplement" is just another word for "useless junk we can sell you under the FDA's radar". Your liver and kidneys do all the "cleansing" your body requires. There are only a couple semi-effective appetite suppressants available on the market and you will need a doctor and…

90% of the time when people aren't losing weight, it's because they are eating too much. Accurate logging is essential. Whether you believe in Adaptive Thermogenesis or not is irrelevant. If it's true it might mean you have to eat 300-400 calories less a day. Bottom line is, if you aren't losing, you've got to eat less, or…

Heck, you're running. With the majority of Americans being overweight or obese, and 3 out of 4 men being overweight or obese, if you've got one lazy enough to resort to mugging to make a living instead of working odds are you can just keep running and leave them in the dust! :)

I think sugar gets a bad rap. It's like in the old days when they thought the night air caused fevers, when in reality it was the mosquitoes that came at night that caused the fevers. Sugar feels bad because food that contains lots of sugar is generally very compelling to eat (you want to eat a lot of it) and calorie dense…

90% of the time, if you aren't losing weigh it's because you're eating too much. You have to log your food, and log it accurately, so you know how much calories are going in. If you try to just wing it, you will probably be over-estimating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjKPIcI51lU#t=260

I love to weigh myself. I look forward to it every morning. I even bought a special scale that talks over my home wifi network to post my weight automatically to MFP. I love data. I love seeing the weight loss. I keeps me focused on progress.

The most optimistic you could hope for is about 2 pounds per week. Over 2 months, that's about 8.5 weeks, so you could optimistically hope for about 17 pounds of weight loss. I personally have never hit this, averaging only 1.2 pounds per week over 6 months. Maybe if you did one of those doctor-supervised VLC (very low…

Agree. However. Depending on where you live and run, your odds of being a victim of violent crime are probably pretty low. It is probably an irrational fear to be worried about being raped while jogging, but this might be male privilege shining through. A firearm is not a magical talisman. If you do not have good…

Awesome!

Yup, ok, fat too. Three options. :)

Try eating more protein. Or see your doctor about phentermine/topiramate. These are about your only options for hunger. And the drugs only work for as long as you are on them, which will only be about 6 months, so sooner or later you have to learn to deal.

I thought I was the only one. I don't know why they even put "unpopped" calories on there because who the hell eats unpopped pop corn? What I want to know is how many calories are in the bag of popcorn!

It does not matter when or what you eat during the day, so long as you hit your calorie goal for the day. I personally try to save the bulk of my calories for dinner. Mostly because I never know what I'll be having.

I don't have much room in my daily calorie allotment (1600 calories) for snacks. I get two apples and a pear and that's about it most days. I eat half a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast, and the other half for lunch. That leaves me about 800 calories for dinner.

Just so you know, if you didn't discover it already, you will find a bunch of people here who say that there is no such thing as food addiction. Pay them no mind. A person who has no self-control over food has the same behavioral problems as someone who has no self-control over gambling. It's all about pleasure seeking…

Diet composition has virtually no impact on body composition. http://i.imgur.com/KxzYLtX.jpg I don't put much stock in the "clean" food idea. A carbohydrate is no cleaner than protein. An apple is not unclean, despite containing both sugar and other carbohydrates. However, proteins can help with satiety.

The problem with phen/fen was the fen. Fenflurimine and dexfenflurimine caused heart valve problems. Phentermine is still available. I was on Redux (Dexfenflurimine) and I agree - it was fantastic. It completely killed appetite for me. I knew it was time to eat when I got light headed.

I suspect it's because the hunger comes back, not habits. New habits form after about 6 weeks. So if you are on a diet pill for 6 months, new eating habits should be well and truly formed by that point. The problem is once the appetite suppressant is gone, the appetite comes back, and now you're on willpower again to…
