You don't NEED a food scale, but there's certainly a justification for it, as StaciMarie pointed out. Additionally, the food database contains things like "Generic - 1 piece chicken" and "Strawberries - 1 cup." It's fair to say that chicken comes in difference sizes and that by slicing strawberries you can fit more into a…

I'd be wary of the chia seeds, if you have gastroparesis. Maybe ask the gastroenterologist first. Not sure if the chia and the slow motility of the gut might be setting you up for possible problems later on. If you're not lactose-intolerant, if you make a shake, throw in a spoon or two of peanut (or other nut) butter or…

Same thing, right down to the numbers. :) We have two households, as my other half is in school. I don't keep junk in my home. I've started to keep or bring healthier options with me when I travel back and forth.

Um, the flu shot protects against what the brains think will be the top three or four toughest strains. Doesn't protect against ALL flu strains, but can help minimize symptoms and minimize the chances for needing to be hospitalized. This year, there are two types of shots being offered in the US. For 2014-2015: One type of…

Best option? Kids meal. Seriously. One piece of chicken, or one piece of fish, some french fries (about 170 grams?), and a small drink. The chicken planks alone are near 200 cals each. Oh, and you get these really odd temporary tattoos in the bag. I think there was a hamburger in a superhero cape, swinging on a vine or…

The bad news is that there don't seem to be as many Type 1 runners reading and responding to the boards. The good news is that you're not alone with this situation. :) http://www.runnersworld.com/nutrition-for-runners/how-to-fuel-for-a-long-run-with-type-1-diabetes http://www.tudiabetes.org/group/type1runners…

STOP IT, STOP IT, STOP IT! You've given up things that made you happy? Oh NO, NO, NO, NO, NO! These are the things that make you an individual. This is the stuff that you bring TO the relationship. This is the stuff that you do for yourself to be happy. When you rely solely on another individual for your happiness, you're…

When it comes to teas, I'll drink any kind of tea except peppermint, plain chamomile, and anise/licorice. I'll take elderberry or valerian - both of which have their own level of funky tastes - tea over mint. (Yuck!) What do I eat with it? What DON'T I eat with it? :)

Not to sound totally ignorant, but how does one go about doing this exactly? O.o

Same here. :)

SOUFFLE OMELET!!! This is my go to! This is a variation of my FAVORITE recipe using eggs. It was easier to grab the link. I don't use the cream of tartar. www.incredibleegg.org/recipes/recipe/basic-souffle-omelet You'll need a pan that you can put IN the oven. I have a seasoned cast iron pan that I use. I heat up the pan,…

Not sure if this is a legit question or if I need to buy an extra bag of Troll Chow. I've had friends who've had the surgery and wouldn't want a post like this to dissuade someone who might be considering the surgery not to get it... Here's how I see it. It's a tool for people who haven't been able to otherwise get the job…

Kissing, in more of a "making out" sense of the word.

If I'm at a store that has a corral for them, then I'll bring them as far as the corral and put them in there. The way I see it, the store has to hire someone to herd them back to the store and that's a paycheck. :) If I'm at Aldi's, or a store that doesn't have a corral, I'll bring it back to the sidewalk / vestibule of…

The 400 calories of "3 Musketeers" bar beckoning me from the break room; It's actually two bars in one packet. "Come on. Each half is only 200 delicious, albeit empty, calories. Buy the whole thing, eat one of the bars, save the other one. You have the willpower to not eat both. Throw the other one in the freezer when you…

There's lots of stuff if you Google "standing core exercises." If you don't have a medicine ball for some of the twisting exercises, a soccer ball (or the like) would do for now, until you're at the point where a medicine ball is an option. Some of the standing exercises can be done with the use of the back of a chair, for…

A couple of things: 1) Start small and low key, so as not to trigger your anxiety even more. This way, you'll get more comfortable with the gym. After some time (A week? Two? A month?) start to branch out to other equipment. 2) Comfy gym clothes. Black / dark yoga pants (so you don't have to worry about gym shorts riding…

I'm a huge fan of plant it once, harvest it over and over. Rhubarb is on the list for next year. Maybe asparagus too. I've also become a huge fan of buy it, then plant the stumpy bits. I have Bok Choy, green onions, and celery coming back for more fun. We have a partial CSA membership so I'm seeing if I can get the lettuce…

The thing is, if he truly is depressed, he might be in such a sour place, that he either doesn't see it or doesn't see things getting any better. If there's a history of depression in his family, it might be so commonplace that anything else (like being happy) is just too foreign. In your situation, it sounds like you can…

I put eggs in toasted taco shells, with some hot sauce. :) Taco shells are GF. I've also used GF wraps.

If cost isn't an issue? Own, private. Don't have to worry about getting dressed to go use the public one. ;) And if the private one is IN your cabin and it's raining outside, you don't have to deal with that.

+1 for this guy's response, especially where value is tied to respect. In my relationships with people, I would definitely put "valued" over "happy" since I see them as interdependent. In a friendship in which I feel valued, I'm happy. Same thing goes for a romantic relationship and for my job. When I don't feel valued at…

I gained .4 but I attribute that to drinking a LOT of water yesterday and to being at our "city home" and not eating properly. I'm at my "country home" now and am back on track this morning. * My DH is in grad school, thanks to Veterans Affairs. We have a small apt near where he's going to school. When I'm there, it's…

I've been on a wheat-free diet for almost 20 years. When it became "trendy," the only thing that became easier for me was that the food got better. My family knows, but I'm not entirely sure they still get it, because they'll say things like "We're having lasagna for dinner on Sunday, when you come out." There are ALWAYS…

No wheat for me either, but I've have better luck with the gluten-free Bisquick for a crust if I absolutely must have pizza. I find the cauliflower pizza to be more of a thick omelet than a pizza crust. I'm using a silpat and am cooking it to a golden brown. Unless I'm doing something wrong, it's just too soggy for pizza…
