  • I'm so sorry to hear that. I do hope your friends will understand your positive attitude to health, in time, but in the meantime you have the whole community here to back you up and support you. From someone who doesn't really have a wide circle of friends who understand my weighty woes, I can really empathise with you. As…
  • Taking measurements regularly is a new thing to me so I'm planning on checking every three or four weeks, depending on how much weight I've lost. I check my weight every Friday morning.
  • It might just take a week to catch up. That sometimes happens. Don't feel down - you're doing really well with your eating and exercising!
  • It is a complete myth that birth control pills make you gain weight. They just sway will power which makes fattening things more tempting due to a heightened appetite. When I was on the pill, it just changed my personality and made me more hostile, rather than hungry. I was losing weight during that time with my own will…
  • That all depends how you plan on spending your time. If you want to go sight seeing, whether to mainstream places like museums and landmarks or to more personal places like the local bars or beaches or hills or whatever, then you'll be doings loads of walking. Walking is always good.
  • I'd go with what the HRM shows, considering it uses more personal information. MFP and the machine would only go by the speed and your weight whereas the HRM takes into account how hard you're working your body - and that all depends on how fit you are.
  • And if you weight yourself again in the morning it'll be even lower!
  • Generally, I'd say its a bad idea to weigh yourself every day. You get fluctuations in weight, that way, through water retention and other factors. If you just weigh yourself every week (or if you want to do it more regularly, twice a week - wednesday and saturday?) then you may get a more accurate reading.
  • If you see underneath 'Messsage Boards >> Introduce Yourself...', it says '> Home > Recent Posts' etc, click on 'My Topics' then you'll see a list of the topics that you have posted in.
  • I'm going by BMI. Overweight BMI for people 5ft 7 is 155lbs and above. Healthy BMI is between 154lbs and 119lbs.
  • I don't know which particular plan you're referring to but I would say that three day detoxes are fantastic for getting the junk out of your system, followed by a perfectly healthy eating regime which you can carry on for the rest of your life (albeit with a few treats every so often). Drinking water helps to rid your body…
  • Eggplant is Aubergine in the UK... I had a GORGEOUS meal at Strada a few months ago. Rigatoni Siciliana Roasted aubergines, garlic and basil in a cherry tomato sauce finished with ricotta cheese. That's served over penne pasta. It was the most amazing meal I've had out. I tried to re-create it with some success. Ah it was…
  • Awesome result on the 20lbs loss! If you think positively about this last stretch, you'll get there. Try not to say 'I never make it' because negative thinking is one of the worst hacks to will power. Imagine this is a new journey, if that helps, and this is the first 10lbs you're trying to lose. You can do it :)
  • If you go to 'exercise' at the top (next to My Home, Food etc) you can check the database and it'll tell you how many calories you can burn doing certain things. I think housework/cleaning is in there with different levels of exertion. Welcome, good luck :) edit... also, if you buy an exercise dvd, they're great to do if…
  • My first main goal is 158lbs (52lbs loss) but my main is about 140lbs (70lbs loss) so I'm around about a 66! 66 loss would be perfect! I lost 13.6lbs but then put on a few pounds over Easter so I'm back in the game again. Fridays are my weigh-in days.
  • Leg lifts are good. And sit ups with your legs in the air. Standing side leg lifts (stand up straight, keep your left leg firmly straight and lift your right leg to the side gently... then repeat 8 times and do the same on the other side) Do a google search or a youtube search and you'll find loads. Davina McCall's workout…
  • I know that celery is a negative calorie food because it takes more energy to eat than it contains.
  • I'm not sure how the higher priced pedometers work but I have one that seems to have a little ball inside that moves when you shake it. I clipped it onto my jeans and headed off to Uni (40 minute walk). When I got there, it told me I'd only done about 7 steps. With HRM, I'm not experienced but I'm sure some other people on…
  • That's awesome, well done! I had that moment, too, when I came home after losing 10lbs in February, I was able to take my old jeans with me back to Uni. It's a good feeling :)
  • Congrats on coming back :) I know how hard that can be after many attempts. If you've done it once, though, you can do it again!
  • Davina McCall has a fantastic 30 minute workout DVD that I've started to use. You can really feel it in your legs the day after. There's Pump which is an all over workout with interval training (which is better than just normal cardio/aerobics) to burn fat. There's the boxing one which I haven't tried yet and there's one…
  • Susan Hepburn's Hypnodiet is working for me :) Daily half an hour meditation and a positive attitude! Definitely massages my will power.
  • Hiiii. I'm waving the flag for the UK! Put on 2.4lbs this week but got my *kitten* out the house and to the gym. Walked there and back, too, to add to the work out. I managed to do a whole hour on the cross trainer without stopping for a break and pretty much keeping it up to about 70RPM. 834 calories burnt. Oh yeeeeah!
  • Congrats :) I've been at that point for a while now. When I was creeping towards it, on my weigh in I got 200 exactly. Not even 199.9. So frustrating! I got under two weeks after, though :)
  • About half a pint is a cup. As is 250ml... around about. I know it says 8 cups a day but you get water from fresh vegetables and fruit, too, so don't worry too much about it. In pure water, you should be getting about 1-1.5L a day. Lean towards the 1.5L mark and it's all good. Of course more water is required with more…
  • I'm using Susan Hepburn's Hypnodiet and she says it's much better not to ban things in order to lose weight. It's that rebellious twitch - if you cant have it, you want it. If you don't ban anything, it becomes less appealing. I know there's the whole sugar craving thing but it's half psychological. It works for me!…
  • Running in the gym is different than running outside. I find it's harder to run outside, for some reason. You should probably try comparing the two.
  • I adore squats! The endorphins that get released during squats and other lower body stretches... aaah yes. As soon as I get a yoga mat I'll be pulling that out every day just for the stretches.
  • Hi :) My boyfriend has his iPhone to play with for uploading everything. Part of me wishes I had one too but I spend so long on my laptop I'll only know how convenient his iPhone is when I get back to Uni and have a schedule again.
  • treecy1 got in before me but yeah I was going to suggest smoothies. I don't have a Bullet but it looks like it would be perfect for that. You could try loads of different combinations rather than sticking to the basics. I tried walnuts in a fruit smoothie and they worked really well.
