I am on my second cycle of SL (as in, I've done 12 weeks, and then started again). I walk my energetic labradoodle 4-5 times per week for 20-30 mins (husband does the other days). Early on, I also did 2 cardio workouts, usually on non-lifting days. I like dvds, so it was usually an athletic style interval cardio workout…

@macy that is funny about your home distractions! I have a goofy husband and a dog that insists on being near me when I lift too. BUt no cat. @lwood: yeah, the ripping issue is yet another reason I workout at home. And when the dog is there, I can just blame it on him.

Haha Fish! This has been my goal too. I made it with deads, but I just told my husband last night that the squat thing is not going to happen unless some weight comes off me first.

I just re-read the squatting part of Starting Strength last night. So I'm going to answer as Mark Rippetoe, not as me. The answer is NO. NO. NO. If you are not at least parallel, it is not a squat.

Hi and welcome! I am lucky because no one has had the courage to tell me I should not lift. I think that is because I know more about fitness than most people around me. Hubby and I disagree a little about what type of lifting is most effective, but he has no problems with me lifting in general. Just tell your husband to…

Hi Kelli! I think proper form is picked up as you go---it's a bit of a learning process. I've been lifting for almost a year now, and I'm still reading articles on proper form and watching videos. If you are starting with the 45 pound bar, just do body weight for warmups. Early on, you really only need warm up for the…

I'm a total homebody too--I even work out at home, even though a perfectly fine YMCA is 5 minutes away. I switched to 3 x 5 when the workouts started going over an hour and I LOVE IT! I'm still physically beat at the end, but mentally I am much better.

I nailed the OHP at 65 last night! :drinker: I feel so amazing. Apparently third time really is the charm. I even had a little left in the tank at the end. Man progress feels good!

I just want to jump in on the log/not log debate. I go through stages just like the rest of you. I love the control I get from logging and knowing exactly where I am every day with my cals and macros, but frankly I get so tired of doing it. And at this point I eat pretty clean (sugar and processed food actually make me…

I know, right? Seems like someone who looks and performs like that might have a good program . . . . .

That was awesome. Thank you for sharing.

@Vegas and Dani: You two are awesome. Please don't resort to PMs. I want to read it all. @Ges: I switched to 3 x 5 a couple weeks ago, and I LOVE it. I am scared of power cleans, though, so I'm still doing the SL lifts, just not the volume. No one has kicked me out yet. I'm slowly working my way back up after taking that…

I completed a round of p90x. I liked it ok, but my goodness why so many bicep curls? And excercising an hour or more a day just does not work when you have a job and three kids. I've now done one 12 week cycle of SL and have started another. I like it so much better, and I feel that overall my body is getting stronger and…

If you intend to continue a lifting program of some kind after your first round of SL, I strongly recommend that you NOT TAKE AN ENTIRE WEEK OFF from lifting. I say this from experience. A nasty, nasty recent experience. It has taken me 2 weeks to recover from taking one week off. Lift lighter, but please lift. Your legs…

Post of the day. I can't stop laughing.

OP, you are INSANE! Push-ups are the bane of my existence. Seriously, though, if you like them, do them. I think the 3.0 version of Stronglifts suggests them as an accessory lift, along with reverse crunches, on workout A days. So that would be after completing squats, benches, and rows. If I feel particularly good, I make…

Taking a week off makes squats hell for msot people. I think its that you get a lot of otherwise unused bits like your hipflexors tighten up again. Don't worry - you'll be fine in another day or two. Next time you want a week break I'd recommend doing some light weight squats during it, like 50-60% your work weight, just…

@macy Oh no! Maybe see a doctor?

Does anyone else struggle with just one particular lift? Squats are my nemesis. I finished the first 12 weeks with a squat of 125, 3 x 5, and was feeling good about that. Took a week off from lifting, and this week I nearly died at 110 3 x 5 and then FAILED last night at 115 (554). Wtf? I've been very careful with diet and…

Love me some Nathan.

I second the recommendation to take photos. I wish I had. I have not seen much of a change in measurements AT ALL-- only an inch off my waist and an inch off my hips, in the LAST YEAR, which inclued NROLFW and then 12 weeks of stronglifts. And when I look in the mirror, I still see pretty much the same thing. AND the damn…

@Freckled: You go girl! I was into triathlons when I had my first (at age 30) and I swam a mile the day he was born. Being in shape helped my recovery a lot. And I know that for sure, because i had two kids after that (at 32 and 34) when my fitness level had dropped a bit, and the recovery was tougher. Thankfully, now that…

Hey all, and welcome new folks! I feel a little guilty even posting this week, as I'm takng the entire week off. I finished my first 12 weeks (well, ok, I did the last 6 workouts 3 x 5) and my body was screaming at me for rest. So I listened. I let myself eat anything I wanted for the Easter weekend, and now I'm being…

@ges I just got my fractionals too! Hubby opened the package and said "what the heck are these?" Hee hee!

Tameko, I'm dreaming of squatting 165. But . . . . I finally feel like I might at some point attain that dream, as I've gotten over my 115 plateau and not only hit 120, but nailed 125 3 x 5 last night. Progress feels SO GOOD! Also eased through bench at 80, 3 x 5, and rows at 75, 3 x 5. In short, it was an awesome workout.…

Fisher, you are awesome! Great numbers, and congrats on the OHP.

How much do you "count" each washer as weighing?
