Well said. I'm not defending the friend by any means but it depends on how old your kids are as to how hard it is to "convert them". Spending sun up to sun down at a ball park and late nights after work going straight to the ball park is tough. You can't plan ahead for EVERYTHING. It is much easier said than done. I do…

When my teenage daughter said "Mom, Your butt is getting a little big don't cha think?" Talk about a huge wake up call!!

I call that desperate for attention.

I don't know what is in it that causes the cravings for you but for me the caffeine is an addiction that cause headaches when I go through withdrawal and the artificial sweeteners cause me to crave sweets. I am constantly on and off the wagon with my diet coke addiction. When I am sitting in meetings all day or traveling I…

I agree - sarcasm isn't what you were looking for. Speaking from experience, it isn't boredom, it isn't hunger, it is a CRAVING that you cannot control. I have often felt like an alcoholic who is CRAVING a drink. It is very real. Do not beat yourself up. I don't believe that you can control them but over time can minimize…

If you have a sweet tooth you can also do the light chocolate soy milk with 1/2 package of 100 calorie oreos or chips ahoy (for about 50 calories) and a spoonful of sugar free instant jello pudding mix (try different flavors such as butterscotch, chocolate, cheesecake, etc.,) and your end result will often taste just like…

I think at this point we all agree. You need to seek help. This isn't about cookies or calories. There is something deeper that you need some help with that none of us (that I know of) on here are qualified to help you with other than to advise you to seek help. Good luck!

I know it isn't what you want to hear but I too have had the same problem but for the past year have been getting up at 4:30 in the morning and doing it before anyone else gets up. It will take a WHILE but eventually your body gets used to it. I hate mornings and I am not a morning person but it was the ONLY time. You…

It is hard not to focus on the scales - we all know that. I've gone from a size 12 to a size 6 and only lost about 10 pounds (on a good day). But to me if you are sweating you are burning calories. Someone suggested to me to categorize it as circuit training so you can get the calories. Others may disagree.

I have to agree that your first goal should be to give it all you've got and FINISH strong. Then you have a baseline and you will be proud of yourself no matter what. Do not set yourself up for failure. Run YOUR race, find YOUR zone and don't worry about anyone else. You have to enjoy it or it won't be fun. There are many…

Wow - we must be related because I have uttered these exact words/thoughts many times before - the donuts, the DQ blizzards, even the reference to offering an alcoholics and the DH being on MFP for 2 weeks and losing 10 pounds then quitting. I can't get people to understand that offering me a donut is equivalent to…

Have you tried compression socks? Best $40 I've ever spent. I never thought they would be anything more than a gimmick but they work. Even if you don't actually run in them, sleep in them or wear them under your pants a few hours a day. They really do speed up the healing process.

As long as your body is changing in a way that is improvement (stronger, more definition, leaner, etc.,) then ignore the scale. But understand, we all struggle with the scale. It is only one tool that you should use to measure your progress. I started running back in July and find that it makes me more conscious of WHAT I…

I can't believe you started out with a tri as a goal. KUDOS! and Congrats!!

Just did Warrior Dash (craziest, funnest thing I have ever done) and recommend upper body strength training. Other free advice - wear tight fitting clothes including leggins for when you have to crawl on the ground. Loose fitting clothes get very heavy when they get wet and muddy. Also buy a cheap pair of weight lifting…

I did c25k last summer - being the overachiever that I am I thought if 3 days were good, 5 or 6 would be better but I ended up with shin splints, etc. It all depends on your body and other variables - right shoes, stretching properly, etc., Your body will tell you if you are doing too much - just listen to it so you don't…

Look into some 12-step programs such as Overeaters Anonymous or Food Addicts Anonymous. They help people deal with the emotional and physical addictions to the food. I'm not sure about your faith but several years ago I went through the Weigh Down program at church and it helped me with this area. One of the biggest things…

Don't say "only" 20 pounds. It is 20 pounds!!! Congrats!!

The best part is that you didn't let your circumstances cause you to just give up. The easiest thing would have been to convince yourself you couldn't do it when your babysitter didn't show. That show serious determination. YOU GO GIRL! Congrats!!

I tend to eat mine up by mid-afternoon then have none left by dinner. I don't know if what time of day you exercise has anything to do with it or not. I'd like to know too.

I suffer from seasonal depression and the sun (and tan) make me feel better. I don't consider myself extreme. Fortunately, I tan easily. And I've always felt like I look 20 pounds lighter with a tan. So if you are looking for me in the summer, I will be pool-side!

I am 6 years post-hysterectomy. Several months ago I actually had a meltdown at my doctor's office when I got on the scale and proved to my husband that after my MONTHS of working out and eating right I had only lost ONE (1) pound. The doctor told me I had to get my sleep straightened out before I would see any weight loss…

Glad to find this group. 6 years post-hysterectomy and for some reason the hot flashes and night sweats have reared their ugly head again. No matter how hard I work out and how well I eat the scale and the muffin top aren't budging. The cravings get nearly unbearable at times that it makes me feel like a crack addict,…

I'm feeling your pain. There are many days that I find myself asking "what is the use?" because no matter how good I eat, workout, run, lift, etc., the middle doesn't seem to go anywhere. The muffin-top is horrible. if I had the $$ i would go get liposuction but that isn't an option.
-
Smoothie King has several good ones too and you can now buy individual packets so you can try them before you shell out big $$ on a tub of something you might not like.
-
Way to go!! Keep it up. You have GOT to feel much better not lugging around that much extra weight. Congrats.
-
I needed that too. The scales can be a huge de-motivator.

I started C25K in July. My doctor told me in August that I wouldn't see results until I started actually running 5ks consistently. He was right. I ran my first one in September and have run about 7 total now. I started seeing the weight come off when I started running them consistently. I started slacking up after…
