What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for everyone. I tried counting calories - no luck. I lifted weight (heavy) faithfully for about 2 years - not the results I wanted there either. Did WW about 2 years ago and finally dropped some pounds. I started running about 4 years ago and LOVE it. I need cardio - I…

If you live near a running store that has a beginner group run program that is a good place to start to stay motivated. If not, use the C25K and do as much as you can. The right shoes are the key. Get fitted by a professional - it isn't about whether you like how they look but what your body needs. Spare no expense on the…

I made lifetime about 2 years ago and have maintained every since. I did MFP faithfully (never missed a day) for over 365 days and only lost about 10 pounds. When I switched to WW the weight finally started coming off. So it DOES work and I didn't feel like I was starving myself like I did on MFP. I say at least give it a…

Don't let your failures define you. Push through. Keep going. And never give up!

That depends on your personal goals. How fast do you want to reach your goal. Every cheat means longer until you get to where you want to be.

Congrats!! I remember that feeling like it was yesterday! Keep going! I ran my first half-marathon in September when 2 years ago I couldn't run 2 minutes much less a whole mile.

Way to go!

When the right one comes along you might thank him for sparing you the misery. Things happen for a reason. Consider it his loss, not yours.

You won't believe how much the right pair of shoes will make a difference. Find a speciality shop and let them custom fit you. Don't depend on the big mega stores to know what they are doing. I recommend Fleet Feet if there is one near you.

You will improve over time. Remember some days are better than others. Sleep, nutrition, hydration, hills, etc., will also come into play. Another big factor here is the weather. The humidity is so bad that my time is horrible. Yesterday was much cooler and I did SO much better. When you do a real race the adrenaline will…

Cheers to you for taking the time to say KUDOS to him. More of us should take the time to do that. You probably made his day (or week!). Just goes to prove you never know who is watching and who you unknowingly are influencing. I have had people tell me that my FB posts inspire them. I never even knew they were reading…

I hit the 365 day mark this week too. I was kinda hoping for balloons, confetti, or some sort of fanfare, lol. So cheers to you my MFP friend. :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:

Sounds just like my husband. I gave up! He actually joined MFP and lost 5 pounds his first week then quit - GO FIGURE. If they don't want it, they dont' want it. You can't want it for them.

Funny how they do ALL THREE (Cardio, Weights, and Proper Diet) only The Biggest Loser in order to lose weight. I've seen alot of FAT people who only lift weights and maybe the runners in the back of the pack are fat but at least they are doing SOMETHING about it instead of sitting on the couch eating potato chips. Let's…

I agree with the idea of signing up to do a race/walk. Do you have a local running store (Fleet Feet)? If so see if they have any weekly group runs.
-
They really do exist! I remember seeing them and thinking "doesn't that defeat the whole purpose?" I had to walk past them to get to my car - and walking past them without picking one up was harder than the race itself.

Well said! Feel better now? lol

1. Bop's Snappy Turtle and 2. Cheesecake - any and every kind

I have 4 "workout" buddies that I couldn't live without. We push each other and if I didn't know they were there waiting on me I probably wouldn't go. I am thankful for them and surprised and how many like working out alone. To each his own.

My 2 cents - if it takes you a litle longer - so what - you are still doing it! Go for it!!

P.S. Look up Food Addicts Anonymous - you can read about how certain foods trigger cravings in some people.

Been there, done that! I've read (and even heard on last night's episode of Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition) that some people have certain food addictions, specifically sugar and certain foods trigger it - bread is one of them. They said the best thing to do is do not eat ANY of it (i.e., don't feed your cravings)…

I'm so glad to see someone else say it is a myth. I've read that it is our culture too. Just like eating at noon because our culture has programed us to believe that we have to stop at noon and eat lunch, regardless of whether or not we are hungy. Americans eat by the clock. Cavemen didn't have clocks. They ate when they…

Looking at your age (I feel your pain, I'm right there with you), you might want to have your hormones checked if after a few weeks you don't see any results. Just my 2 cents.
-
Depending on what kind of day you are having it might actually sound not so crazy if you just feel like blowing off some steam, lol. I think I've had a few of those days.
-
I'm not wild about lifting either but I do it anyway because I know it makes me stronger and is good for me in the long run. But it doesn't give me the same feeling of accomplishment as running does. Not sure why. Bottom line - Just do it! It is good for you.

There is alot in the book that is confusing to me. I think I need a New Rules of LIfting for Dummies version.
