I'm from NW London, been living in Cardiff 10 years now. Hello all!

There's a thread in the Low Carber Daily Forum group about low carb hostility on MFP. It's mostly moaning rather than helpful advice or suggested retorts, though! Fighting ignorance on the internet is tilting at windmills. Let it sail on past you, and then when you've achieved your exercise aim, shout from the rooftops…

Mine comes from the Adam & Joe BBC 6music radio show. It was something Adam said by mistake when he meant "any different", and turned into a minor running joke. On another site my username is also Adam & Joe related...what a geek. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XY74VXBtf7

You should be able to make an appointment within 24 hours. Call them back. When you say "stomach" pain- whereabouts do you mean? Upper abdomen? Left or right or middle? Upper right can be gallbladder, lower right appendix.

The honest truth- I've stopped counting carbs. I just stay away from grains, potatoes and sugar, including fruit. I eat meat, veg, dairy and nuts. At a guess I think I'm around 40 t0 60g carbs a day, but honestly I don't know. It's become more about avoiding what makes me sick (wheat, starch, fructose) than it is about…

Having been a depressed, obese vegetarian for 15 years, 3 of them as a vitamin B12 depleted vegan, I simply cannot agree with the OP. I believed all the "vegetarianism is healthier" stuff too. From reading around the web it seems that a lot of people feel better in the short term- long term's a different story. Nowadays I…

My total layperson's advice: My first thought would be to adjust your water intake. You do need to drink more water when low carbing and I think too little water is most likely a culprit. However, a huge, unnatural amount of water can cause an electrolyte imbalance which may cause the symptoms you describe, if you're not…

But it is "the NHS" dietary advice that I have learned to ignore, not that of my GP, since he didn't give me any. Such faulty advice is right there on "the NHS" website, not my GP's website. How would you prefer I refer to this? I have learned to ignore the advice of the people who write the text that goes on the website…

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV. Could be low blood pressure. Could be low minerals (potassium in particular). Could be carb withdrawal. Could be an inner ear infection! Do make sure you're eating enough, particularly of energy-dense food (ie fat!) and use sea salt or other forms of mineral…

RANT AHEAD I'm actually starting to find that it's not worth me reading anything other than the Success threads. Yesterday I came across a thread where someone asks what to say to a colleague who's trying to steal her weightloss thunder. The poster is losing weight what she calls "the right way" (low cal and exercise, I…

On the issue of trusting your GP, both times I visited my doc about losing weight, I walked out with a pharmaceutical prescription. When I asked to see a dietician or have some nursing input into a weightloss programme, I was told they wouldn't tell me anything I didn't already know. Well since I couldn't lose the weight…

There doesn't seem to be universal agreement on whether US sizes are different by 1 or 2 sizes, I've seen both! I'm around-about 215lb (98kg), more at this time of the month (grrr), and a UK size 20. My height seems to vary depending on who's measuring- somewhere around 5'7.5 to 5'8. It seems to take me over a stone of…

My boobs are disappearing, my collarbone showing, but my calves are still super wide and unable to fit in normal size boots. I guess this makes me a triangle. I just seem to get fatter as I go down. I'm surprised my feet aren't obese. :(

I think it's just about impossible for people who don't "need" a low-carb diet to quite understand the incredible results it gives to those who do. 8 months ago I was on a low calorie diet and doing endurance training. I felt, emotionally, as sad and low as I always had, and my weight loss was slowing down. 5 months ago I…

If you do any "diet" and then go back to your old way of eating, you will gain the lost weight back. I'm not sure why Atkins gets singled out so often. It's kind of like saying "If you stop doing the thing that keeps the weight off, and start doing the thing that makes you gain weight, you'll gain weight". I guess what…

What annoys me are the threads where someone asks a question, like a question about what their macro levels should be, or whether to worry that they're over MFP's sugar levels, and someone will ALWAYS say, "It's all about calories in, calories out. Just stay in a calorie deficit, the macros don't matter". And then someone…

I want to get under 200lb. Specifically, I want to be 196lb, which will take me out of the obese BMI category and into merely overweight. I would like this to happen by June. Once there, it's all about fitness. I want to go back to Nepal and actually go trekking this time. Twice I've been there, gawping at the mountains…

I totally relate! I found running was like walking on air after I'd been keto for six weeks or so. I completed C25K before this way of eating, but I stick to sprints now, as I've heard it's better for fat loss. I don't see why it wouldn't be sustainable.

Everyone you meet has a horror story about someone they knew who was on Atkins. It's never them, always a cousin or neighbour...

Beef coconut curry. I actually adapted this from an old vegan recipe! I'm in the UK which might confuse things- just play around with the quantities, it's pretty forgiving. Ingredients, for one person: butter/coconut oil/ghee/your chosen oil 100g Tesco beef strips (or just cut some steak into strips I guess!) half a 50g…

There is real danger in making broad brush statements like that. I was vegetarian for 15 years, and vegan for 3 of those years. I was obese the whole time, and became vitamin B12 deficient as a vegan, and developed allergies to anything from pollen to bananas. I didn't even know how sick I was until I quit being…

Tonight is beef coconut curry with riced cauliflower. OM NOM NOM.

I aim for under 20g net CHO a day, but I'm not hugely strict on that; under 30g is OK. I do occasionally have a few berries, but not even weekly.

I just bought a book called The New Rules of Lifting for Women: Lift Like a Man, Look like a Goddess, by Lou Schuler (et al). It includes a 6 month program, diagrams and lots of really well-written explanation. I really recommend it. Or, join a gym, and ask!

It sure is lonely in here! I'm aiming for keto, although tonight I had butternut squash soup at a Christmas party.....oops. Never mind. I am enjoying it, which I definitely wasn't when I was trying to calorie count. HUNGRY. I eat so much better now, so much more veg and unprocessed food. Right now my weight loss has slowed…

Thanks. I am really looking forward to trying this. Not looking forward to Tesco's on the day before Christmas Eve though....nightmare!

If you don't have a problem with weight gain on starchy carbs, you may not see much benefit in cutting out potatoes. If starchy carbs make you gain weight, giving them up might a good idea. I don't see why this is hard to understand, or why people feel the need to argue about it so much. Having lived many obese years…

I love the sound of the stuffing recipe and will be making it on Christmas Eve, thank you! I do have a couple of questions though. Forgive me, I'm not a great chef. The bacon that's cooked with the onions (the word onion is missing in the post, but I gather that's what it means!)- is that chopped up into little pieces? And…

All meat and fish (less so processed meat). Green leafy veg like lettuce, cabbage etc Brassicas- broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts Dairy, but not milk so much Nuts and seeds. Simple rule and easier than working out carb counts - No White. No flour, sugar, potatoes, rice.

I suffer from scale-addiction too. I personally have found it wears off after a while. I guess I realised I was just driving myself crazy with it. In my head I knew that weight fluctuates over the day, but it took me WEEKS of compulsive weighing several times a day to finally accept that. If you really can't stop, throw…
