Seems like there's a lot of good advice here, the only thing I would add is to suggest mindfulness meditation. Just to keep your sanity and to help yourself not to get sucked in when you choose to interact with him. Oh, and someone once gave me the advice to not respond to texts and phone calls right away. Wait a few…

I quit for a year and it turned into 4 years. The first year was a big adjustment and now I rarely think about it. It's the best way to go for myself. Allen Carr's books really helped me out.

Take a bc pill and skip the sugar pills, just take it continuously so you don't have a period. That's what I do. There's no need for a period. Especially if you have issues with extreme pain, which is true for many of us. The women who say "suck it up" - I suspect they've never had dysmenorrhea, endo, rupturing cysts,…

I'm like you, 41 and things are going much more slowly than 3 years ago when I lost 40 pounds in 6 months. There are various differences, like I'm taking a bc pill now, but really I don't know why it's harder now. This time I've lost 20 pounds in the last 12 months but hey, I'll take it. I'm just going to keep going, keep…

I'm a woman, 41, and have been weightlifting for years. A big part of starting out is getting past the intimidation factor. If you can, the best thing is to sign up for some training sessions. Sometimes the gym will give you a free "tour" or session where they show you all the machines but this is less ideal than having a…

I'm trying out "Progressify" - an app on my iPhone. So far it's really easy!

I just found this thread but I was diagnosed with Lyme a couple of months ago (but had an EM rash in December 2013). The thing that made me seek a doctor in late 2014 was permanent numbness and pain in my hands and feet. But then my symptoms started to slowly get better during the time we were doing tests, and the doc…

You look great and you & your man are such a cute couple!

omg, THANK YOU! I'm saving this..

Know that women don't all experience periods the same way. Sometimes women who have it easier don't understand the women who have extreme pain, they think we are exaggerating and tell us to just "suck it up." I have endometriosis and ovarian cysts and the pain can be extreme. I do not work out on these days. I put it in my…

I became sick and gained some weight back. I was glad that I hadn't gotten around to getting rid of all my old clothes. I'm back on track but I'm just sayin... things happen...

I like Vega Sport, vanilla flavour! It's a mixture of pea, hemp, alfalfa, and a couple of other proteins. http://vegasport.com/en/recover/performance-protein

I lost about 10 pounds from quitting alcohol alone - that's what got me started on on the weight loss/fitness journey. I'd suggest reading Allen Carr's "The Easy Way to Stop Drinking" - cheesy title but it worked for me. I've been sober for 10 months now.

In my experience, when I have confronted someone on unwanted behavior, the other party has never acknowledged what they did. I've gotten "I don't know what you are talking about" to "You are overreacting" to "Eff You." Yet every time, they have backed off afterward. I hope this is the same for you. I think you did the…

Don't be scared! Here's what I did to get used to things: while doing something I knew (like bicep curls on the machine) I'd look over at some unfamiliar corner of the free weight area and see what equipment was available, and where people were using it. Then I'd go home and look at videos, pick a new exercise, and I'd put…

I got hydrostatic testing and learned I was 122 pounds of lean body mass and 17% body fat. I asked him if this could be a mistake. He said no. I just don't think I "look" like I'm that muscular and lean. I look quite average. I *was* aiming to lose ten more pounds but after finding out the numbers I just went into…

I'm on a plateau, I increased my calories over a month ago... No change. I haven't gained or lost. :/

Hello everyone, I just finished reading the book and am both excited and nervous to start this new program. I lost most of my weight doing Rusty Moore's program and am not new to weightlifting but I'm on a plateau (I only have 8 more pounds to lose) and I need to change up what I'm doing. I'm excited about eating more and…

A photo is not just a photo. I can't find the link right now but I saw this website where the guy did a before and after pic on the same day and just used posing and lighting to create an "after" look, and it looked like he had lost weight. I say all this to suggest that maybe your "after" shot wasn't very flattering but…

I recently got hydrostatic body fat testing (dunked under water), the most accurate method, and learned I was at 17%. The health central link put me at 23%.

There are so many suggestions here that I haven't heard of, this is great! Ha, wine is the worst one for me. My legs will start aching and kicking within minutes of having wine. I don't know if it's psychological or what! Also, to Swissmiss, I read once that a certain percentage (I think it was 20%) of RLS sufferers…

No one has mentioned Canada yet? In Canada is polite to take your shoes off inside someone's home. When I moved to the States I learned that people generally don't do that (esp California!) and some even think it's rude to take your shoes off! So now when I go to a new person's home I sort of get "stuck" at the door,…

I have had terrible problems with rls and exercise usually helps it, but avoiding alcohol helps me the most, I don't know if that's a factor for you..

I stopped drinking last June and dropped enough weight to make my clothes loose, make me interested in losing more weight, and then I stepped on a scale for the first time in years and then joined mfp. It was the beginning to my weight loss journey. I lasted 3 months and it was great. I started in Sept just having a few…

This is probably not what you meant, but for the benefit of any guys out there reading this thread and wondering what might work... My favorite is "Hi, how are you today?" It's rarely used. Also, "Hi, you're very attractive, will you sit and talk with me?"

Awesome, thank you!!

A lot of us struggle with our weight. No shame in knowing the amount you want to lose! There was a long period of time that I didn't weigh myself and didn't know how much I wanted to lose, so stepping on the scale and choosing a goal was a big moment. I'm proud of myself for doing that!
