Berberine has arrived n=1
So the berberine has arrived, and I am going to take 500 mg with my metformin at breakfast and supper and see if it has any impact on my glucose levels in the evening and with the morning fasting reading. My afternoon readings are always low, and I am already taking metformin, so I decided to go with twice a day and not…

new member
I figured I would share my story by way of introduction. So I was diagnosed with T2D in October 2016. I had an A1C of 12.8. My doctor prescribed metformin and explained that this was a progressive disease and that typically patients would add a med when one stopped working. He explained issues with retinopathy, circulation…

The puzzle that is BG
So today I took a car to the shop to get two new tires. The wait was too long, and so I walked the 4 miles home and figured I would get a ride back when it was done. I walked at a reasonably brisk pace, and it took me a couple of minutes over an hour. Feeling all self-righteous about actually getting some exercise, I…

results from latest blood draw
A1C 5.5% Total cholesterol 203 Triglycerides 149 HDL 35 LDL 138 The A1C was 6.1 in March and 6.9 in January, so I am pleased with progress there.

Donated blood today
One of the interesting factoids off the information sheet is that if you register with the blood donation place, you can get your cholesterol when the blood was drawn. I will be interested to see what it is. It would have been about 5 hours after I last ate, so it won't be a fasting cholesterol, and it may only be a total.…

sodium and water retention on LCHF
My wife is doing LCHF with me, and she frequently has what I would call the "keto flu." I suggest more sodium and tell her I shoot for 4K to 5K mg figuring salt added to eggs, etc. is not showing up on MFP. I do things like have three servings of olives with lunch, and I add a teaspoon of Lite Salt to the gallon of fluids…

progress
My low carbing has been uneventful. I did have an appointment with the ophthalmologist, and he said there was no evidence of retinopathy. This was good. Glucose levels have been pretty good. The mySugr app seemed stuck at a prediction of 5.8 for the A1C. It finally dropped to 5.7. The technician at the eye doctor asked a…

electrolytes
I have been feeling tired and a little out of sorts. I feel light headed at times. I have been adding a half teaspoon of salt to the gallon of Crystal Light I drink every day to stay hydrated. I track sodium, and I am keeping it in the 4000 - 5000 range. When I go for a walk, I often get a headache afterwards. The food…

good BG numbers T2D
I am just really pleased with the LCHF diet and my slowly dropping BG numbers. I have had a few good days this week. Today Morning fasting (11 hrs): 99 Before lunch: 95 1 hr pp supper: 116 2 hr pp supper: 110 Before bed: 94 I have been encouraged by some slow but steady weight loss. I don't get another blood draw with the…

New Fancy Scale
Because I was a math teacher in a former life, I like data, and I could not resist getting a scale that has the sensors that predict body fat%, bone mass, etc. One odd reading I get is that body water is 42.1%. That is low. My fluid intake (if anything) is high. Does anyone else have experience with these sorts of things?

Thicken gravy
If I have gravy thickened with approximately 1 tablespoon of corn starch with the evening meal, my glucose levels are high afterwards and also the next morning. I count the carbs in my log, and so the carbs are not going over for the day. I understand that this is the type of carb that causes this response, and so I am…

The puzzle that is BG
So yesterday was one of those days. The bishop was making his visit at the parish. I was distracted getting out of the house. I neglected to take morning meds (metformin, etc.), and I did not catch it until I went to take evening meds. It was a busy day, and I tried to eat properly, but I went over on carbs. There are not…

Introduction - T2D
Hello... I am a type 2 diabetic and have been taking metformin 1000's twice a day. I have been observing a somewhat low carb diet to try to address the glucose levels. I am fairly active, and I will get 8000 to 14000 steps most days. My goal with eating has been about 50 grams (net) per day, and I have been reasonably…
