High triglycerides
Well, drat. I have PCOS and have changed all my carbs to whole grain and have completely cut added sugar from my diet. I'm exercising regularly. My blood work shows that my HDL cholesterol is still too low and my triglycerides are REALLY high. Now I have to cut certain fats from my diet as well. So frustrating. I was…

fueling before a workout
OK, I need suggestions. I have PCOS/insulin resistance. Sometimes I have to work out in the morning before work (have to start my workout by 5:30 am). I roll out of bed at 5:00, throw on my workout clothes and go. I need something quick and easy to fuel me up for the workout. I'm not one to want to eat a lot that early in…

BMI
BMI--I've about given up on it. Every calculator I use, I put the same info in, and I get a different answer every time. If they're going to use BMI for insurance purposes, etc., then they need to make it consistent across the board. It's ridiculous.

Stomach issues
I just started Metformin Wednesday; I'm only at 500 mg and am supposed to bump to 1000 mg this Wednesday. I also dramatically changed my diet the same day I started the Metformin. The good news is that I've dropped 6.5 pounds (I know that will slow down, but it's a great motivator to start out). The bad news is that I…

gastric bypass
I am not trying to start an argument, but I want to share a story about gastric bypass. There is a lady my sister knows from her work in the ER. This lady, an EMT, had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago. Last week, very suddenly, she became very ill (one day she was fine, the next she wasn't). The gastric bypass…

Spire activity tracker
Has anyone else heard of the Spire activity tracker? It's new (hasn't even been released yet). I pre-ordered and should receive it in the next few weeks. It tracks your activity through the motion sensors like other trackers but with the added element of tracking your breathing patterns. I'm going to be interested to see…

food diary for teenagers
My almost-17 year old son (who has a number of disabilities, though none are physical) has very high cholesterol. The doctor wants to try to solve it with diet first (I agree--he said cholesterol meds can do a number on your liver). Someone recently mentioned a site/app similar to MFP but for teenagers (since MFP requires…

Getting enough calories
Ok, I don't need any lectures about eating back calories and all of that. I've read all sides of that debate. Here's my problem: I am aiming for 1600 calories a day eaten whether I work out or not. I'm usually ending up about 1500 or so. Sometimes, though, I eat healthy enough that it's hard to get the full 1500-1600…

fitness trackers
I've been away for awhile and am looking to restart things. My kids and I joined the Kroc Center in our area. I have a bad back, but exercise classes in the water are great and help me workout without reinjuring my back. Problem is, I have NO IDEA how many calories I'm burning. Does anyone know a good fitness tracker that…

Introduce Yourself
We need a place to introduce ourselves, so here it is. I'll have to do my intro later; I'm at work and really need to get busy instead of playing around on MFP!

New Rules of Lifting for Women
Has anyone else done the New Rules of Lifting for Women workouts? If so, I have a question. I did the first workout today, and the last exercise, the prone jackknife, almost made me the laughingstock of the gym! If you had trouble with this exercise, did it get better? I end up falling off the ball after about 5 reps…

MFP in the CSRA
I just started a group for those who live in the CSRA (Central Savannah River Area--Augusta, GA/North Augusta, SC and the surrounding towns). If you're from this area, please find us and join up--I'd love to have you! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/2184-mfp-in-the-csra

muscle spasms
I started the New Rules of Lifting for Women workouts this week. I got confused the first day (Monday) and did twice as many sets as I should have; my body paid for it the next day! I was SO SORE. I ran C25K Tuesday, then did the second day of NROL yesterday (right number of sets this time!). Last night, I'm sitting in…

How is everyone?
We've not had much activity from our group lately. How is everyone doing? I've been so busy at work this last couple of weeks. I work at a church as the music ministry assistant (with an interim music minister who's only really here on Wednesday nights and Sundays!). I also help direct the children's choir. We had their…

running question
I did the first day of week 2 of C25K tonight. I'm doing fine as far as endurance (my breathing was better this week than last week), but I have one problem. The muscle on the lower front of my leg tightens up something awful. The left leg is worse than the right. I'm taking short strides, but it is really painful. They…

nsv
Bought some size 12 jeans yesterday, down from a 16! Also did my first day of c25k and did the whole thing without any breaks. My kids went with me, and my son cracked me up with this statement: "I didn't know you could sweat when the sun isn't out!"

one slight negative to weight loss
I was blessed with pretty good skin (hardly ever get any blemishes) that is still pretty young looking. However, I noticed in the mirror the other day that when I smile, I have extra wrinkles around my mouth that weren't there 3 months ago. My first thought was "What the heck...?"--then it clicked. I have less fat filling…

NSV
My belt is on the last notch and still comfortable! I will have to buy a new belt soon (the design of this one doesn't allow for adding new holes). Also, I discovered this because I had to have a belt today; I was blow-drying my hair, and my jeans fell halfway down my hips!

Funny definition of calories
Friend just posted this on Facebook: "Calories (noun) : Tiny creatures that live in your closet and sew your clothes a little bit tighter every night."

Restarting
Hi, folks... I know some of you have been wondering why our group was suddenly called "NA/NA/NA"! Erinrose felt the need to step back from leading the group, and she tried to remove herself from it. I guess that messed everything up! We finally got it fixed, and she handed administration of the group over to me. I hope…

Odd question...
This may seem like an odd question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. I'm 5'4", and my starting weight was 210. I've always felt short and dumpy. I've now lost 26 pounds and am finding myself not feeling as dumpy, for sure, but the odd thing is that I FEEL taller. I know I'm not, but I FEEL like I am. Maybe I'm carrying…

Kind of a weird NSV
Sorry if this is TMI, but you know that roll of fat we all have (or used to have) on the lower abdomen? I've always had to physically lift it with my hands in the shower to wash under it. This morning, I didn't have to! I was able to wash under it without lifting anything. I know it's an odd NSV, but it was such a pleasant…

Second NSV for the day!
I had an NSV earlier today, then while out shopping had another one! I was at ****'s Sporting Goods and was looking for pants for running working out (all my others are getting where they won't stay up!). I tried the larges and they were a little too big (this from the one who used to wear size 18 pants!). I tried the…

Amazing courage
I'm sitting here watching the 20/20 special about Gabby Giffords. Seeing her overcome a traumatic brain injury with so much courage makes my weight loss battle seem so insignificant in comparison. It's also very motivating, too. If she can overcome a bullet through the brain, I can overcome my issues with food! If you…

sleep
OK, I've read in numerous places that sleeping well is an important part of a weight loss journey. Since I got my BodyMedia Fit, I've been seeing my sleep patterns. I allow myself 7 hours, but because of constantly waking through the night, I'm only averaging about 5 hours of sleep. I did get 9 hours Friday night,…

another NSV
Hope this isn't TMI, but I had to buy new underwear yesterday! The other was just bunching up under my clothes! I went down a size and they are not tight in any way. Hopefully I won't have these too long before I have to go down another size (good thing I buy the cheapo Hanes Her Way at Walmart!). I'm going to get my mom…

Two NSVs
My first NSV is that I'm going to have to increase the level on the elliptical finally! Yesterday was just a little too easy! My second NSV is my favorite so far. It's finally started getting cold here (I live in SC). I pulled out a pair of last year's warm pajamas. I put them on and immediately sat down on the bed to put…
