Fellow plantar fasciitis sufferers?
Does anyone have any experience with PF or with "dry needle" therapy? I went for a session this morning and had a treatment on my calf. (My calf is super tight and what is probably causing the PF, they said) The needle part was fine but my calf is very stiff and painful now. Oh, I have to wear a night splint too. I'm going…

Time adjustments for a short course?
I ran a Half yesterday and the course was short by about .3 or .4 because the lead cyclist went the wrong way and the first chunk of the pack followed. Because of this my time gives me a new bogus Half Marathon PR. From the race official: "We did our best to provide the cyclists with the tools they needed including a…

Traction aids for snow and ice?
To those of you who run outside in the winter snow... what do you use/like? What works for you? It looks like there are TONS of products out there to choose from, from DIY sheet metal screws on up... just wondering what people actually use that works. Thanks!

Heart rate monitor spikes with tech shirts
I'm wondering if anyone has found a good solution to this... I have a garmin HRM and it almost always spikes WAY high at the beginning of a run, usually for about a half mile. I've tried both the older HRM2 strap, the newer HRM3 strap, and even a polar strap. It happens with all of them. Anyway, I did some experimenting…

Pace during taper?
It’s less than 2 weeks until my first full marathon. I’m nervous and excited! I’ve been following Hal Higdon Novice 1, faithfully, except for missing one or two short runs somewhere in the middle when I had a medical thing going on. I’m wondering what your opinions are, in general, as far as run pace during the taper…

Newton shoes?
Ok, I confess... I was so intrigued by how these shoes felt when I tried them out that I bought a pair. (the "Motion" model, I need some stability/support) I'm easing into them and have only run a few miles in them so far, too soon to see a difference for better or worse. I've only worn Brooks up until now. The "Ravenna"…

What's your favorite system for carrying water on long runs?
I'm training for a full marathon and I'm starting to look around at belts and/or packs for carrying water. I don't plan on carrying any during the actual race because there are water stops every 2 miles, but I'm going to need some for longer training runs pretty soon. I'd like to be able to do some long runs out in the…

What’s your favorite marathon training schedule or routine?
I plan to start training for my first full marathon soon and I’m wondering what programs others have followed and had success with, and what might be most appropriate for me. I’m 42 (well 43 in a few days) and started running about a year ago. My first race was a 5 miler back in Sept, which I finished in about an hour. I…

Good shin splint explanation video from runners world site
Hi, my name is Chris. I recently joined this group and have been "lurking" around a bit. Lots of good info here! (and not much BS, which is nice) I started running a little under a year ago. I'm 42 and never ran even a mile before that in my entire life, no sports at all actually. Now I really LOVE to run!! In April I…

Weight gain or slow loss after starting resistance training?
Hi all, I've been progressing pretty well with my weight loss for the past 6 months, averaging a little over 2 pounds per week. (about 50 pounds) I lost it just by controlling my diet and doing some light cardio 3-4 times a week. To put this in some context, I'm a male, 5' 9", 42 years old. I started on MFP at 261, now I'm…

I met my first goal, yay!
I'm 5' 9" and 42 years old (today! Happy birthday to me!) I started using MFP on 12/31/11. My starting weight was 261.2. Back at that time I set a random initial goal for myself to hit 214 by my birthday. (47 pounds in 22 weeks, so a little over 2 pounds a week, I figured that was achievable) Ok, pics!... In this one I'm…
